My estimate was 240k first week so hopefully it's round about that :P

But will she sell a steady rate of around 26k for 3 days though..?

I based it around 26k as an average, to give leeway, for all we know she could drop to around 22k on Friday, but I doubt that is going to happen as people get paid at the end of the week, so they might treat themselves to an album.

Kanye's album is a masterpiece tbf, so i wouldn't mind that getting the award over BTW (although BTW is obv my personal fav)

Also @gagadaily's last tweet: According to BBC, Lady Gaga's Born This Way is currently selling more than the rest of the top 30 combined in the UK. :w00t:

I'd like Adele to get the award since she's done Britain proud as well as proving that you don't have to release uptempos or "trend-following" songs to be successful.

The bit in bold also applies to Kanye's album too though (except he's just less radio-friendly than Adele).

But he wasn't really that 'successful' aside from his big opening week in the US.

That's true. But that opening week alone (he even beat Nicki Minaj that week!), and the fact that that the album will probably become a classic in the future, is success enough.

Plus, they did a documentary based on his and Nicki's albums on Radio 4. You know your album is big if a conservative radio station in the UK is doing a program on it, and you're a hip hop artist!!

I highly doubt Kanye will win Album of the Year at the Grammys. They've never given it to an out-and-out rap album - Lauryn Hill won in 1999 but her album was more R&B/soul, and Outkast won in 2004 but their album was only half rap anyway.

He might get nominated, but he'll just lose like Eminem did in 2001 to Steely Dan or whatever they were called, and everyone will say what an upset it is when it really isn't.

By the way, many of Kanye's albums have been nominated in the past - and none of them won. And he lost to some pretty $h!t albums in some years too (U2?!). And he's lost to some pretty crap acts in some of the other major categories over the years (Maroon 5 beat him to Best New Artist in 2005).

He's probably a cert for Best Rap Album for the 4th time though :cheer:

I think that's WHY Kanye might win this year. They got so many complaints about last year. They even had to send out some sort of statement about it. I think they might give Kanye the win just to "prove" they're not anti-urban, pro-rock/country, etc.

And Kanye's current album has been better-received than any his previous ones tbh.

And I think for us living in the UK, we're not fully aware of how much praise Kanye got for his album last year.

Surpsied Take That are top 20 in the albums as with the deluxe announced i though sales would plummet altogeter for the album until then,

Maybe a 'cult classic' but not much more than that.

I hate how MBDTF flopped so much over here. :(

Objectively, I don't think Eminem's album was the best last year from those nominated anyway. Arcade Fire's album was better than his IMO, so I don't have a problem with that one.

I'm very much aware how highly praised MBDTF has been (I do read album reviews) but I don't think you can compare sites like Metacritic to a panel like the Grammys. I'm probably wrong but I think a lot of these sites like Pitchfork or NME have a younger base (let's say 30s or 40s) than the Grammys panel. As such, a lot of them surely grew up with hip hop around them, compared to some 50-year old who probably grew up with The Beatles and David Bowie. Also, a lot of review sites are more indie-based (check the best scored albums on Metacritic, it's a rather indie list), while a panel like the Grammys is more mainstream-based. Not that Kanye is an indie artist of course but he has heavy appeal to people who like that sort of music.

And all of Kanye's albums have been VERY well received. MBDTF is probably his most critically-acclaimed, but Late Registration and The College Dropout were also massively loved by the critics, Graduation and 808s less so but still appreciated. And to regurgitate some of his injustices: Maroon 5 have never had critical acclaim behind them yet something like This Love was considered more "Best New Artist" worthy than something like Jesus Walks?! To me, Best New Artist should be about the most exciting, interesting new artist, which Kanye clearly was that year IMO, hence why he's STILL around now while Maroon 5 are flopping. And in 2006, he lost to U2, a band who older people have probably grown up with, who had a well-received but hardly mass-loved album in How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.

That said, you're right he could win, but IMO if they wanted to prove they weren't biased towards hip hop music at their biggest awards (Album, Song, Record, Artist) then it'd be better to not prove it the year after they had a backlash for giving it to Arcade Fire over Eminem! Although I think they also had a backlash in 2001 for giving it to Steeley Dan over Eminem (I didn't see it at the time but I've read about it), yet that changed nothing afterwards, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Yeah. Well maybe in the US it might be considered an overall classic in the future, but here in the UK, I doubt anybody is going to even remember it other than the fans of that type of music, let alone consider it a classic! Heck, most people in the UK probably haven't even heard of the album. :(

lol. Yes, obviously Kanye's current album has been the most critically-acclaimed! This is definitely best chance yet he's going to have at winning AOTY (probably the best chance he'll EVER have, I can't see him topping this one in terms of critical acclaim). The people behind the Grammys know it's going to hurt their credibility even more if Kanye doesn't win.

But you keep missing the point. The Grammy Awards don't pay a lick of attention to critical acclaim! A lot of albums they award it to are well-received in their "area" as such (usually jazz, country or soul) but it's rare they give it to the absolutely most critically-acclaimed album of the year. It's a totally different group of people who are sitting on the Grammy panel to those who are writing reviews for magazines/websites - people who are totally different musically.

Anyway, I think a lot of people are forgetting it's only May, so there's still loads of albums to come out before the Grammys next year. And there's a high chance the winner will be a random jazz or country album that 90% of people never knew even existed

Yes, obviously!!

I hate it when the Grammys award the awards to someone who you NEVER heard of in the main categories.... I mean, at least pick one from the mainstream section :P
LOL @ 21 'only being really big in the UK' It's massive everywhere!

I think I've made my point clear. There are a lot of big albums in the UK but Adelle is just overwhelming because she is 7plat+. 21 is successful worldwide but it I doubt you will find any markets (big or small) where it has been so heavilly certified. I don't think you actually doubt that Gaga will outsell her almost everywhere outside the UK, do you?

Well, 21 is the best-selling album of the year in the US too. Although Lady Gaga will probably overtake her very soon.

Adele's album has certainly been the biggest album on the planet so far this year. So like Bray, I was a bit baffled to see people's comments about it.
