June 4, 201115 yr No it's not. On air, on sale was started to make more money for these record labels. They think they're losing sales from holding songs back, so they release them at the same time as their radio premiere, to get a few more sales. What you described is an expected result of OA/OS. That the songs would act like album tracks and slowly climb up the chart as promotion increases. That's not why on air, on sale was started. The record labels would prefer their on air, on sale songs to debut at #1 with massive sales than climb up the chart (like Price Tag), I'm sure. It has nothing to do with the charts really. I doubt record companies were thinking "Oh, look how amazing the chart runs of Meet Me Halfway, Telephone, Ayo Technology and What's My Name? are, lets release our songs early so they do that too". They just want higher sales and hence more money. They'd be perfectly happy if the song debuted at its peak (especially if it was a high peak). Yeah, I worded my post wrong. I didn't mean the chart run is the reason it was implemented :P But you saying it's an 'expected result of OA/OS' surely supports the fact that that *is* how an OA/OS chart run is supposed to be?

Yeah. But at the same time, it's not "wrong" if a song debuts at its peak from it. And any artist with a massive fanbase, like Lady Gaga or David Guetta, I don't think it's possible for them to get a chart run like Bad Romance ever again.
June 4, 201115 yr Another week at no.1 for Pitbull, it seems. Could he get 4 weeks, like LMFAO did? He deserves it, but then Example won't have his turn :( But on the upside, Pitbull has a better song so all the weeks he can get at number one are fully deserved! :yahoo:
June 4, 201115 yr I think Pitbull might only get 3 weeks. If Mr. Saxobeat climbs really, really fast it could get #1. Very unlikely, but it could happen, especially if Pitbull starts falling. And of course Example and Coldplay. It'll be one of those 4 for sure anyway, unless Right There does a Someone Like You.

It's just different from what is expected. :P

I predict 01 Example 02 Pitbull 03 Alexandra Stan 05 Nicole Scherzinger (assuming she does a performance of Right There) 07 Coldplay (top 5 in first midweeks but it'll be very frontloaded)
June 4, 201115 yr Alexandra Stan is climbing really fast on iTunes, she might climb over Pitbull someday :)
