I think it would be good to do it all the same until Judges' Houses and then instead of the judges and helpers choosing, have a live studio round (a la Pop Idol and American Idol) where the public vote for the top 12/whatever amount. Maybe a few wildcards too so the judges have some input.

That's a very good point actually. If Pop Idol had used this format, there's no way someone like Will Young would've made the live finals...and look how well he's done in the last 10 years.

 

Did they use the same public vote stage in Pop Idol 2? All I remember was the "wild card" thing and how much of a car crash the entire series in general was. :lol:

 

I dunno I didn't watch Pop Idol 2. I do remember people thinking Will got through because he had a go at Simon, but I thought his version of Light My Fire was amazing. The true point in time when it was revealed Simon Cowell knows nothing of music.

Apparently Cheryl will be back at the live finals - in which case I'd imagine Tulisa is sacrified.... I do love Cheryl but they don't need to tamper with the panel, besides Tulisa's not the problem - Gary is! Even LOUIS is tolerable up to him! But I doubt it's true anyway, they surely can't just oust Tulisa mid-series?

I think Louis letting her (and indeed Wagner) through is his way of just getting his own backfor always being given the crap catergories. And tbf he can only work with what he's given. I'd rather have average singers than crap singers though, even if the latter are entertaining. The show is meant to be about talent and who can have a recording career after the show, not who'll end up in Butlins 6 months after the show!

I have no doubt that Louis (as Cheryl was last year) told who to put through to the finals from his category.

Sammie is one of the few 'overs' in recent years that has actually been good enough to go the whole way but I don't think for a moment that Simon wants anyone over 25 winning his show.

Since Jedward, the 'joke act' seems to be a yearly thing now in the live finals (and always mentored by Louis :lol: ) expect Goldie to stay for weeks if true!

 

It'd probably do Cheryl more bad than it would good - people are warming to Tulisa, so to kick her off would be a big no no. No one cares about Cheryl anymore, she's old news and I personally struggle to see her being successful again but she's only got herself to blame. She was given a chance to do UK X Factor and said no, now she's changed her mind she shouldn't be able to get it.

I seriously hope the Cheryl rumour isn't true. The judges have all been fairly good this year even Louis. And booting Tulisa off for it would be a mistake because she actually comments on the singing and all the other technical stuff rather than 'OMG you look like a popstar, you're so cute, blah blah blah' like Cheryl did.

 

And seriously if she wasn't good enough for the American version, I don't really fancy their leftovers.

I ADORE Cheryl but returning to the UK X Factor at ANY point would've been a big no no for her - especially now that the new line-up is working very well and getting consistently impressive ratings. I can see why she might be tempted, but if she knows anything about good PR she should stay away. She should work on that third album, come out with a smash hit that SCREAMS X Factor performance and make her return to the X Factor stage riding the wave of success as a singer.

 

As for this show so far, I had mixed feelings but I think I'm really starting to enjoy it. I LIVE for Kelly Rowland, and even though I recently criticised the acts for being very average so far, having caught up on last weekend's episodes there are a few stand-outs emerging.

I think I read the final is a week earlier but the main reason for it moving on quicker is that the finals will be 'bigger, better and longer'. I assume that means probably 16 contestants like last year but without the rushed and forced double vote-offs.
