Brilliant episode tonight. Pat's scene with Mo seemed especially poignant. Can't wait for Sunday's.

The ending of Eastenders was a tear jerker for me, very emotional, for such a brilliant actress.

Oh dear this is going to be really sad come Sunday based from tonights episode. After Dot leaves then I don't know what EastEnders future will be :(

I agree. I loved Pat tonight (and Ricky).

Pity Shane Ritchie has to ruin EE - but I suppose every soap has its cross to bear. Much as Corrie has its cross to bear with this ridiculous Sophie/Sian storyline (WTF gives a toss about Sophie????)

Three "spoilers" of things to come in 2012, taken from the official Twitter. I shan't put them in spoiler tags, as they're not giving too much away.

1. Heartbreak happens for one mother hen when her-hen pecked hubby strays from the nest. #EastEnders2012 #EastEnders

2. A tall, dark stranger will turn one brassy broad's life upside down. #EastEnders2012 #EastEnders

3. A protective patriarch puts himself in danger to save his offspring. #EastEnders2012 #EastEnders

I have a feeling that #1 refers to Bianca and Ricky from what we've seen with Mandy, but I can't be sure.

Very nice ending to the episode and it was a pause for thought that i think struck a chord with all the viewers, im sure tomorrows episode will be an emotional rollercoaster and i hope the the episode does pams 25 years plus justice.
Close to tears on multiple occasions tonight :( Very well acted from what seems like all corners, and one of the best soap farewells I've ever seen.

Well that was WONDERFUL. It would have been nice to see more moments between Pat / Ricky and Pat / Bianca. It did seem that it was all about Janine, David and bizarrely Derek Branning (who enjoyable as he is, wasn't needed in the sense that as far as the viewers are concerned he doesn't really have any history with Pat that anybody cares about).

Those final 10 minutes were utterly heart-stopping though, and I've decided I would quite like David Wicks to stick around please.

And who knew, Dame Pam St Clement can ACT :o

Amazing send off, just what such an iconic character deserved. Janine and Pat was the best scene for me, it's so odd how Janine is just pure evil and yet I ALWAYS end up feeling sorry for her...

It's times like tonight that make you realise Janine is basically the finest, most complex character in EE. She also has a huge capacity for love. It's what makes her such a fab villain.

Superb episode obviously and the best exit in quite some time. Dame Pamela has to be overjoyed with that, it was such a fitting tribute to one of the ultimate icons of soap.

CRYCRYCRY. That was a properly emotional episode that didn't disappoint - although I agree with Shoat that the Derek stuff was rather pointless. Seeing her say goodbye to old stalwarts like Ian and Dot was almost as sad as her scenes with family members - it's hard to imagine the Square without Pat and I think those scenes got that across. It was good to see David back and return to hold his mum's hand as she died. The scene with Janine was utterly heartbreaking too and further cements her as my favourite character.
The first episode I've watched in what's going on three years. Absolutely wonderful episode. Tears APLOOM.

Janine & Pat - excellent - truly loved it.

The rest of it - a bit pants really.

Excellent performance from Pam St Clement, deep down I wish they didn't kill her off, she could have just pack her bags and gone to New Zealand for good to be with Simon. In the end it was very sad to see her go, as I remember the first time she strode into Albert Square, by been very bossy towards Pauline Fowler.

Is Michael French only in it for a few weeks though, that's what I read, and Derek Branning has only been given a 6 month contract. I can't wait to see the back of him, I just don't like him and the character does not fit in apart from the Branning family.

Ha! You can never just give due praise and then leave can you Kath? God bless.

Janine is so underrated, she's fantastic. I agree with Liam despite being a complete cow, I always sympathise with her.

I quite enjoyed the episode and agree it was quite a decent farewell for Pat. It made me so sad though, not so much the overly emotional deathbed chats as the knowing looks as characters like Dot and Ian said goodbye to her as they left the room after having that one last proper look to remember her before leaving. I've visited a few people with terminal cancer and that is exactly the thing you do when you leave the room, you say goodbye and then realise it's probably goodbye for ever so you just prolong that final moment longer than you would do normally and there's a really sad moment when you know that the other person knows it's probably the last time they will see you too - that's the aspect that they nailed.

More on her return here. Hetti Bywater will first appear on January 12.

Purely in terms of how she looks I reckon that's good casting. Also I love her ridiculous outfit in the second pic. Here's hoping she can ACT. I'll give her time because it took Nu Lauren six months to settle in.
