Or Britain's Got Talent is sucking away all of the viewers that would otherwise be watching EastEnders and are therefore going to watch on catch-up...

LOL. Gotta love how the anti-EE brigade try and spin these things. :D (It actually took 6.1m last night plus a huge 1.3m on BBC3.)

Whoops. Just read Eastenders had dropped to 5.7 million viewers last night. It's 2005-2008 all over again.

Not suprising, as it's gone crap again!

Tonight's was seriously good. Phil is such a great character again now, his scenes in the Brannings' and back at home with Ben were electric.

Be careful Liam! If you DARE say anything negative about EE (no matter how true) ... you will be seen as a 'hater'!

Kath

Bore off Kath. You ARE a hater.

'Hater' ... such a juvenile term! Oh sorry .... you are a juvenile!

Lighten up Jark! Its only a TV program - no need to be so defensive about it.

ROSE COTTON

leaving the show later this year. No big loss there.

I agree that with

Dot's extended leave breaking up the fantastic little Dot/Rose/Cora/Patrick senility brigade, Rose would perhaps be a little redundant and isolated. [And on that, no matter what's been promised, I really would be surprised if Dot ever returned as a full-time character again. At best I imagine June Brown dipping in and out for a couple of years before calling it quits for good.] That's not to say Rose hasn't had some FINE moments, notably her dissolving in a puddle of mascara GOO wearing Heather's wedding dress. So I'll say Rose's departure is not too surprising, but a shame nonetheless.

On the state of EE at the moment, it does seem to be experiencing a bit of a downer at the moment and I can see why Kirkwood was booted. The saving grace at the moment is the aftermath of the Ben/Heather fiasco, which has really revived the characters of Phil and Shirley (Phil in particular was on the verge of becoming irredeemably unsympathetic until the murder), and seems to be about to do the same for Ian. It's also brought some long overdue attention to Jay, and highlighted that Jamie Borthwick really is potentially a fantastic future asset for the show.

Yeah Jay is pretty fantastic. In other news Letitia Dean has begun filming!

Another departee:

+++AFIA+++

goes next month.

She feels she and Tamwar want different things and goes travelling or something. Sounds rubbish. I wish they'd axe Tamwar instead.

Afia

just hasn't been used well at all since Christmas. Massive shame but not a surprise.

From those leaving, i believe wont be missed and make room for the introduction of hopefully some interesting charactors who are worth investing time in.
An unnecessary exit, given there's really no conceivable reason

why Afia and Tamwar get back together and help build a happy and functional Masood family unit. I have to say I don't agree with the sentiment of axing Tamwar though (DON'T DO IT EE); he's been a misery guts lately but nearly being burnt to death will do that to you. At his best he is a refreshing change from your typical Eastenders male stereotypes where men either have to be wannabe gangsters or doomed-for-life losers.

Can't say Im that bothered about Afia going at this stage. I really liked her when she first got with Tamwar and her huge involvement in Yusef was enjoyable but she hasn't had much goin on as of late plus I've got bored of her too. Saying that Tamwar has gotten extremely boring too.

I've just watched all of this week's episodes in a row and WOAAAH, that was a depressing week - even more than normal. I thought all of the stuff with Ian was very well done, and in the end they explained what the character of Mandy is actually about - somebody who tries to love other people but can't because she doesn't love herself. I'm pleased she didn't leave as a total bitch, as there was so much potential there for her to be quite a tragic character.

I'm interested to see what happens next. Ian has definitely lost it. I was really rooting for him during Friday's episode.

I must admit last night's episode was really good, as Slick said I like to know what happens next to Ian, even Lucy played a great performance as now she has to look after Bobby with a possibility of failing her exams.
