I beg to differ. It was one of the most blatant and cringeworthy attempts at political correctness I've ever seen. "Oh, let's cram in a gay couple, a fat chick, a cancer boy.. that'll make it RELEVANT!!" Not to mention the stupid scenes with people having lights come out of their bellies. WTF were they thinking? Like the song, but whenever the video is on TV in my house, the channel is switched pronto..

It reminded me of the music video to Beautiful by Christina Aguilera actually (infact, the message of the song did too). The music video wasn't brilliant, but the song didn't need a good one, since it was so good.

Infact, there's quite a few songs like Beautiful popular at the moment. Like We R Who We R, Born This Way, Who You Are. Who You Are is probably the closest, since they're both slow. The rest are pop club bangers.

Don't worry, I was just joking.

Would be funny though, if Second Chance by Tinchy Stryder got to #2 in 2025.

Are you trying to suggest Tinchy Stryder will be as revolutionary as MJ and will be remembered when he dies  I mean of course he'll be remembered, but not on that scale

Yes :D

Probably not.

I doubt he'd die in 2025!! :o At least I hope not. :(

However, Never Leave You>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Man in the Mirror imo. :coffee:

I second this comment. I didn't feel the cancer kid was at all necessary in the video.

Ugh, Beautiful.. One of the most overrated songs of all time, and I still can't it won some VH1 countdown for best gay anthem ever just because of one shot in the video where two men are locking lips. The actual lyrics describe someone is persecuted everyday, and I don't think we're all THAT homophobic!!

As for the current trend of songs about self confidence, well if anybody needs to be inspired out of depression I would suggest they buy a self-help guide or talk to the Samaritans because I doubt one pop record will change their entire frame of mind..

I quite like Beautiful actually. But I've also read and heard it being called one of the best gay anthems of all-time too. And I had a gay friend at school who loved Christina (possibly mainly because of that song), and he was one of those people who got her album to #1 last year (unfortunately nobody bought the album the week afterward! :o).

I agree though. Homophobic people are amongst the most hated people in today's society. I think gay people have a massive amount of support now, and there are other sections of society that I think are more persecuted and excluded, who don't have songs made for them (although making songs for those people aren't going to increase your fanbase as your record sales much).

I don't think the songs are a bad thing though. I think it is possible for them to help people. A person who feels excluded by mainstream society might listen to Beautiful when they're feeling down. And like We R Who We R, that came out in the US shortly after all those gay suicides, which was nice, given the mood in the US at the time couldn't have been great. :(

I actually haven't seen the video yet, but I do hate those sort of pretentious videos <_< I do like Firework, but its hardly the 'inspirational' song its trying to be

Yeah. Firework is all about the instrumental to me. The lyrics could be anything, and I wouldn't care, because the instrumental is so phenomenal (not so much the verses, but the chorus). It could have the lyrics of Viva la Vida, and I still wouldn't care. :kink:

Dropping out:

95. Use Somebody - Kings of Leon

96. Price Tag - Jessie J & B.o.B [Album Version]

99. Black and Yellow - Wiz Khalifa

Two new entries today. One has never been top 100 before (Darren Hayes - Talk Talk Talk at #57) and the other makes its first T100 appearance since 29/05/2011 (Pitbull - I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) at #100). The single version of Arctic Monkeys - Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair re-enters at #97 for some reason as the album version continues to drop. These three entries knock out Kings Of Leon's Use Somebody, Wiz Khalifa's Black And Yellow and the album version of Price Tag by Jessie J feat. B.o.B.

Glasto effect kicking in

#90 Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror

#115 The Vaccines - If You Wanna

#169 Mumford and Sons - Little Lion Man

#172 Mumford and Sons - The Cave

#228 Biffy Clyro - Bubbles

Just heard 'Boom' by Snoop Dogg & T-Pain - almost as good as 'Sweat' and it doesn't even have Guetta production. It's a sure fit hit (well in comparison to 'Wet') in the US - but I reckon it could do well in the UK too; it's done well thus far - let's hope it can get top 40 next week.

#052 Bombay Bicycle Club 'Shuffle'

#105 Cee Lo Green 'I Want You'

#119 Britney Spears 'I Wanna Go'

#160 Tinie Tempah ft. Wiz Khalifa 'Til I'm Gone'

#200 Kings of Leon 'Back Down South'

Anyone know anything about Bruno Mars 'Earth to Mars' - I saw it earlier on a leak-album website and it appears to feature all new tracks. I wonder whether it's an EP exclusive to the US or whether it's similar to a mixtape.

Boom is really good. I've been so addicted to it since I heard it a lot on the radio last week.

But I think its already been released in the US, and it didn't do very well. :( It was about March time I think, and it also had a music video for months (I remember watching it when it first came out, not expecting it to ever become a hit here ).

I downloaded Earth To Mars ages ago, I think it's just a collection of leaked tracks or a mixtape.

Only two U2 songs in at the moment are With or Without You and Beautiful Day at 359 & 448, and I imagine they're staples anyway. Be interesting to see if there's a big effect come the morning...

Foster The People are still climbing? :o

I was really expecting it to be back out of the top 40 by now, could this be a proper sleeper success in the mould of L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.?

It peaked at #75 on the Hot 100. I recall it hanging around in the US iTunes top 100 for quite a while though. It's a good thing Snoop seems to have revived his career in the UK at least (with a bit of help from David Guetta), he seems to be pretty much over in the USA at the moment :o I'm really surprised they haven't bothered giving 'Sweat' (the Guetta version, not the original) a proper push in the US yet. Guetta is a big name there now and most of the big European dance hits can cross over to the USA. Even Take Over Control has made the Hot 100 (probably off the back of Give Me Everything's success, mind, but #96 is still a pretty damn good position for it and it's likely already sold more in the US than the UK)

FTP are being weird and yo-yo-ish on iTunes. They keep climbing to a new peak, then falling a couple of places, only to reach another peak soon afterwards instead of just continuing to fal as I keep expecting it to do...

I do have some hope it'll have a nice long chart run in which it climbs to a peak (although it's not really comparable to L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. as that only just scraped the top 40 in its first week and there's no way in hell PUK will only be peaking in its ninth week on the chart...)
