 #126 now

Today's top 100 update (8pm positions)

Just the one new entry today and it's another 59p song - Soft Cell's Tainted Love at #100 - bringing the total number of 59p entries in the top 100 to a massive 27, all but three of which have entered or re-entered the top 100 because of their reduction (Notorious, Fix You and Easy Please Me were top 100 before). The Black Eyed Peas re-enter yet again at #87 with I Gotta Feeling thanks to the weekend effect. Entries from DJ Khaled and Bruno Mars drop out to accommodate the two entries.

I really don't understand why she hasn't been doing better with this or the last single - they're both pretty dreadful but absolutely no different (and even slightly better) than what is hanging around the top of the charts.

Because radio aren't playing Britney anymore. :(

In the US, where Britney is getting radio support, I Wanna Go is already approaching the top 10, whilst Till the World Ends, whilst not getting to #1, has actually sold MORE than Hold It Against Me, spent over 2 months in the top 10 and is currently in the YTD top 20.

Till the World Ends could've been just as big here if the public actually knew the song. :(

I hope I Wanna Go can make top 200 officially. :nocheer:

The UK hasn't really been switched on for Britney since "Piece Of Me". For some reason, that song was hugely popular here. Aside from that, there's been NO interest since about 2004.

Womanizer was a massive hit as well.

I Wanna Go is far better than HIAM and TTWE. But still nowhere near her best.

"Womanizer" had a highly televised performance. And it gained no interest for the album and singles that followed.

I think it's because the Brits regard Britney as like a 'cheesy novelty act' because of the over-emphasis in the public eye of songs like 'Oops I Did It Again' and 'Baby One More Time' from her earlier years. And rather than her being a big popstar at the moment (Rihanna, GaGa, Katy Perry), like she is viewed in America. I think she's been shunted into a different catergory, guilty pleasures, (X-Tina, Kylie).

'Highly televised performance'? I assume you mean 'Highly publicised TV performance' :P

But nonetheless, Womanizer was still doing well before XF.

Piece of Me is amazing.

I felt like Britney has always been popular tbh. Now that I know all her chart positions, it turns out a lot of her songs didn't do well, but I never really felt there was a point in time where Britney wasn't culturally relevant. I guess part of it is my age aswell. But whenever she released a new song, everybody would be talking about it. :D Even as late was when she released 3, I still remember it was quite a big deal. Although now I'm around 40 year-olds all day, who hate Britney obviously, so I don't know people's views on her anymore really.

No, I mean highly televised.... It was performed on the X Factor. The most successful show (ratings wise) at the time. I believe the Britney performance brought in even higher figures.

It's funny about the Kylie connection. I see that.

'Highly televised' doesn't mean anything though. It's either televised or not, there aren't 'levels' of televisation (if that's even a word).

EDIT: Actually, it does make sense in the context of, for example, saying 'football is a highly televised sport'. But it doesn't make sense when you're referring to one performance especially since it was only broadcast on one channel.

You can just ignore me though :P

This made me die inside. Although it's probably true. Although I wouldn't say Christina is a "guilty pleasure" though. :o

You know, I reckon Christina will actually make a comeback sometime. She really is one of the iconic artists of the previous decade (not to take away from Britney or anything ).

Britney and Xtina's careers are dead in the UK sadly :( Both still churning out good music though! The meltdown is where it went wrong for Brit tbh, the UK has never gotten past that (besides Womanizer and Piece Of Me).

I wish 'Gimme More' was a much bigger hit than it was too - only peaked at 3 when it should've been a massive number one

I literally do not see the appeal in 'Piece Of Me' and 'Gimme More'. Most popular songs that I dislike have some obvious appeal that I recognise even if I don't like it. But POM and GM are just horrible and I don't understand how anyone can stand hearing them, let alone actively like them

I'll never get the love for 'Piece of Me' but 'Gimme More' is GOLD. Definitely her second best song after 'I'm a Slave 4 U'.

Exagerating, much?

'Piece of me' is actually my favourite Britney song ever. It's just so bloody perfect.

And 'Gimme more' is really hot, one of her best.
