September 22, 201113 yr 12.4 million viewers and a 4.2 adult demo. It was literally crushed by Modern Family which premiered to 14.3 million and a 6.0 adult demo!
September 22, 201113 yr American Idol can break a 9.0 rating (without Simon!), so even though a 4.2 would be decent/great for pretty much any scripted show and make it safe from cancellation, it is nowhere near the height of Idol, and even premiered lower than The Voice did (which got just over a 5.0 when it started in April). It could grow, but I expected numbers a lot nearer to Idol and Fox have got to have some disappointment surely. edit: X Factor adjusted up to a 4.4 in the final numbers. September 22, 201113 yr Lots of people in the US are saying Cheryl was a better judge in the first half or the show that Nicole was on the second half of the show tonight. Its rather funny, they seemed to prefer Cheryl over Nicole even though they don't know who she is, whereas we prefer Nicole over Cheryl
September 22, 201113 yr I actually forgot about this :o I shall catch up tomorrow, cba to just watch the last bits when I've missed 20 minutes! I actually prefer Cheryl over Nicole anyway
September 22, 201113 yr I actually forgot all about it, I catch up tomorrow, its mainly auditions at the moment, so I can't be missing much.
September 22, 201113 yr As much as I'd love Simon Cowell to end up with egg on his face you just know that he'll end up with a hit on his hands. There's talk that he has a 'trick up his sleeve' for the Judge's House stage! For the moment though - I'm satisfied with the news of the below expected viewing figures. I found it particularly nice after ITV had Tony Cowell reviewing the show this morning from Hollywood (rather than their usual Hollywood Hound Ross King). My did he look like the cat that got the cream - saying it was fabulous, everyone lapped it up and they were looking forward to finding out the viewing figures. He even managed to get a little dig in at Cheryl - bloody childish and it could even have been Simon himself talking. Proved one thing - nastiness, arrogance and botox runs in the Cowell family. Kath
September 22, 201113 yr I know it's sad and petty but I am REALLY happy about this not doing as well as expected. It is absurd though that America will have a talent competition from September to May in some form or another.
September 22, 201113 yr Hmm...I definitely didn't connect with it as much as I do the UK version and I'm not sure if I'll continue watching. I guess I just don't care about them unearthing some act who'll go on to have a glorious #24 debut Billboard SMASH before fading away quickly...even American Idol with their vast viewing figures hasn't produced a really big worldwide star, or really even a big domestic star for at least a few years and I don't see X Factor USA doing so either. At least with the UK version you know that in general the top 3/4 will probably go on to become some of the biggest pop stars of the next few years here and it's worth following their 'journey'. Also, I'm no Cheryl stan but based on the first hour compared with Nicole in the second, I definitely preferred the former!
September 22, 201113 yr It was ok, with a couple of really good singers (mainly that 42 year old woman a bit before the half-way mark?), but not brilliant. Cheryl seemed fine from what we saw so I from watching the show I don't see why they got rid of her. I do think American Idol works better though. edit: I'm not a massive fan of the UK version really, but I do think this season of TXF UK works better than TXF US did. September 23, 201113 yr I thought it was shit! Loved Cheryl in the first half, really made the show worth watching! But then Nicole came in and she was just appauling. I ended up switching off not long after she came on! Steve Jones was suprisingly dire too. It's weird because I really felt Cheryl's absence and missed her when Nicole came in, but on The X Factor UK I don't really miss her, probably as Tulisa does such a good job!
September 23, 201113 yr Cheryl was fantastic! I really don't see why they axed her when she was doing her job perfectly fine. The panel is rather lacklustre. L.A Reid and Paula Abdul are so boring to watch and listen too to be honest.
September 23, 201113 yr Cheryl was fantastic! I really don't see why they axed her when she was doing her job perfectly fine. The panel is rather lacklustre. L.A Reid and Paula Abdul are so boring to watch and listen too to be honest. I haven't seen it but I can understand people preferring Cheryl over Nicole. One poster on IMDb has said it isn't too hard to be more interesting than Nicole as a rock would be more interesting! Nice! I do think Nicole is a nice person but she's deathly boring and I honestly didn't get the looning when she guest judged on our own X-F last year. I haven't even watched the US X-F yet but I truly can't stand Paula Abdul so I've no intention of beginning. And L A Reid looks like he's some sort of silent extra in a low budget copy of Pulp Fiction so I don't think I'd even bother watching him. But for those who do watch (and enjoy it) by all accounts it appears that episode 2 was a lot better than episode 1. Kath
September 23, 201113 yr I'm glad Cheryl is getting some good press after her short X Factor US appearance. At least it makes it up a bit after the debacle of the last few months. And it makes me download the episode, never thought I'd be watching the programm :kink:
September 23, 201113 yr I don't know if anyone was great tonight really. My favourite was probably the young girl who sang 'Firework' who didn't even get put through, but I loved how Paula went on stage to comfort her. I think Nicole was slightly better tonight. Maybe we haven't seen enough of him yet but Steve doesn't seem like a great host. Too many bad auditions for my liking, half an hour in and they still hadn't put anyone through.
September 24, 201113 yr Ratings not great, they will have to introduce something to build hype. Last night's premiere of The X Factor scored an 8.7 overnight metered market household rating. That's 18% better than the premiere of the New Girl on Tuesday Night, but about 39% less than January premiere of American Idol which ultimately scored a 14.2 household rating in the final numbers. It was more than a 100% improvement over the year ago's Hell's Kitchen. So a solid start by pretty much any benchmark other than comparing it to American Idol. Sadly for the Fox PR machine, those comparisons are inevitable. The X Factor wasn't the highest-rated show of the night with the metered market households, ABC's hit Modern Family took the honors with a 9.8 household rating for its one hour episode, which was up versus last year's 30 minute episode by more than 10%. By household rating The X Factor also trailed CBS's Criminal Minds which scored a 8.9 overnight rating. That's wonderful in a world where people actually give a shit about households. They don't matter at all, 18 - 49 is the only number the networks care about (except for The CW, who get no ratings).
September 24, 201113 yr I watched it and i enoyed it but not as much as the uk version, i guess we can connect with it better as we know it better. The second episode was better i liked the 18 year old who sang listen by beyonce. Im not cheryl coles biggest fan but like others have said she seemed fine and i enjoyed more than nicole, nicole is too nice or maybe boring to be on the panel and i found i had no heed on what she was saying. I never watched american idol before so the usa versions are all new to me but i did like paula abdul i have to say.
September 24, 201113 yr This whole set up just reaks of Americanness. So different to the UK version without being different at all. :P You know, it's got all the dramatic music, and I just can't stand to watch it, I hate massively 'American' programmes like this. (I sound silly seeing as it's The X Factor USA ) But I'll stick to the UK version thanks!
