Probably if madonna drops dead her highest charting track will be "Frozen".

But what about Kylie? CGYOOMH? This is ridiculous...

I think Mariah Carey would make a huge impact on the chart had/once she's deceased. It would be bigger in the US compared to the UK.....Celine probably would too.

I don't even want to think about Madonna dying

I think MJ was the last true 'world shock' which would cause that level of mass hysteria, I think another factor was the controversy surrounding his death - no one knew how it happened and his life was so controversial that it just had everyone talking (musicians wise I mean)

Paul McCartney and Madonna would be shocking and tragic deaths worldwide and would prompt a lot of singles buying, but their lives are slightly less publicised so probably wouldn't cause the same mass hysteria

It's probably quite difficult to predict anyway. I think if Nate Dogg managed to go top 30 on iTunes after he died, most of the artists discussed here should be able to do much better than that.

Even Brittany Murphy went top 100 on iTunes after her death. Patrick Swayze did too and he wasn't even primarily a singer. In fact, Brittany Murphy wasn't primarily a singer either :P

Also Gerry Rafferty got back to #55 with Baker Street earlier this year after his death.

Robbie Williams?

He is in a good place now (the healthiest I've ever seen him) and this is so unnecessary, but I always thought it would cause a hysteria if he died at the Swing When you're Winning era, when he was admittedly close to death and critics were triumphant about the Albert Hall thing...

I've always hoped Amy would somehow find a way to save her life like Robbie did but it looks like girls generally lack either the strenght or the willpower to completely recover. There are so many 'junkie' male rock legends who manage to eventually balance their situation and live long despite taking more than she did. Even Britney Spears (WAY milder case) never actually really recovered and put her life in the right place...

OMG please stop killing all music stars! this thread is getting creepy!!!

Wow. Brittany Murphy went top 100!?!? :o I love her, but I wouldn't have expected that! :o

I don't see why people would download a artists music because they have died tbh.

I agree fair enough it's sad that she's died etc... but it's annoying how she's taking up all the publicty and the people in Norway have hardly been mentioned. I don't mean to sound like an utter twat... but the way Amy was going it was always going to happen?

What nonsense, the main story on BBC news is the Norway tradegy and took most of the programme. Amy only took up a couple of minutes. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that's not the way it should be but it's annoying me all the people saying things like this. Also at least people aren't making jokes about the people who died in Norway, a death is a death and Amy should be being treated as the same level of tradegy and respect as the dead in Norway, which she infact isn't. Sorry, but the negative reaction is really p***ing me off. Rest in peace to the musical icon that was Amy Winehouse and also the victims of the awful tradegy in Norway.

Both are tragic circumstances and no one life is worth more than another, fanous or not. Amy's death has affected me a lot more, due to me being a huge fan, and the fact she's a musical icon and will be remembered as a musical great in years to come. But that doesn't mean her death is worth any more (or less) than the 92 in Oslo, it's just personally more people will be deeply affected by Amy's death.

Me too  Now Madonna is an ACTUAL legend.

Very true! Back To Black is up to #26 btw now. I thought by this stage it would be higher, but then again, she was never that big a single seller for someone of her profile, she will be remembered for her massive sucsess with her albums, especially BTB which will be where we see the biggest impact, in the album chart.
