We're now officially halfway through the chart week and JLS have only lost 8% from their peak lead (more if you combine the other versions of Glad You Came of course, but still no more than 15% most likely). That's pretty good going for them still.

JLS are the epitome of what is wrong with the music industry. :puke:

What makes you say that?

What makes you say that?

Just because there is no creativity involved.

Year after year, they release an generic up-tempo club-friendly done-to-death-a-million-times single (BA, TCIA, SMMW) in the summer to gain a cheap #1, then release a soppy boyband-cliche winter single (EIL, LYM) in time for XF to gain another #1 with huge sales and then release only one more single after the release of the album to prevent a broken run of top 10 singles - they could have easily released a fourth single from their successful debut album and the fact that they released EWS with a rapper's name attached to it shows how desperate they were for a continued top 10 streak.

It frustrates me how they had so much potential on XF in 2008 yet it was wasted when they sacrificed their artistry for cheap commercial success. At least try to make the two co-exist.

Rant over. :P

Their music career has delivered far more than X Factor promised for me personally. They began well and were a genuinely interesting act but Louis Walsh turned them into yet another 'suits 'n' stools' type act by the end of the live shows. I'm glad that somebody saw the sense to market them as a relevant pop/R&B act who have actually had a handful of decent singles (One Shot/Eyes Wide Shut in particular).

Had they done what I feared Louis Walsh would want and released album after album of mum aimed sub-Westlife schmaltz and boredom then they would have sunk without trace incredibly quickly.

Nicki at #11 in the chart update is a good indicator that she could go T10 this week - so long as she overtakes Harris on iTunes.P

33 Foster the People 'Pumped Up Kicks'

^ A good indicator that it'll return to the T40 - so long as Scouting for Girls or Ronson/Winehouse fall out.

51 Magnetic Man ft. P Money 'Anthemic'

53 Jay-Z & Kanye West ft. Otis Redding 'Otis'

59 Robyn 'Call Your Girlfriend'

71 Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go 'Cinema' :left:

83 Pitbull ft. Marc Anthony 'Rain Over Me'

^ Looks like 'Anthemic' is set to peak higher than 'Getting Nowhere' ft. John Legend did (#65).

Tbh a generic pop act (where's the R&B?) and a sub-Westlife act are more or less as bad as each other.

They should have been marketed as a proper R&B act. I would have more respect for them if they went in that direction.

Why does every single artist have to break away from being generic??

I for one LOVE generic stuff feel good pop songs, that you just stick on or have on the radio whilst driving, lounging in the sun or having a p*ss up on a friday night with catchy beats and hooks to get you in the mood...

Keep the generic coming!! <-- Obviously people like it so why should they stop?

Keep the generic coming!! <-- Obviously people like it so why should they stop?

For that reason. "Artists" only come out with generic music because it's a cheap easy way of getting success. They don't necessarily like it themselves. You can release songs that are worthy of dancing to on Friday nights or listening to in the car without being formulaic straight-from-the-hit-factory pop music. Yes, generic songs are okay, some are great, but JLS are guilty of doing this repeatedly and it's getting boring. It's mainly their lack of creativity and good lyrics that gets me annoyed. :smoke:

Time for a Nicki Pop bar update!!

08 Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) 0.254092

09 Calvin Harris - Bounce 0.254092

10 Pitbull - Give Me Everything 0.253803

11 Nicki Minaj - Super Bass 0.243083

12 ADELE - Set Fire To The Rain 0.228741

It seems Nicki could jump up to at least #8 when she enters top 10 because the bars are so close. Still about 0.01 away... this time from Pitbull!

I loved JLS on X-Factor. In fact, I voted for them ALOT in the final and still listen to their mp3's of Hallelujah (beautiful, btw), Working My Way Back To You, The Way You Make Me Feel, Stand By Me and I'll Make Love To You, but since their debut they've went downhill. :(

Beat Again was pretty good, but Everybody In Love was dreadful. One Shot was okay.

The Club Is Alive, actually, for me, was pretty good at the time but aged horribly and looking back it was a mess of a song. Love You More was fantastic, and so was Eyes Wide Shut.

However, She Makes Me Wanna is so generic that I can't even listen to the song without thinking "On The Floor.....Til The World Ends....Yeahx3" and cringing at the dreadful lyrics. The fact Aston insists on showing off his body all the time and also the fact he hogs all the vocals is also beginning to grate on me. Oh, and the fact they mime all the time, there videos are pretty weak and how they follow the same release pattern every year.

I don't want to compare them to The Wanted, but at least TW put some effort in and don't rely on their looks to sell records.

Although all of em bar one got their kit off in their video for GYC :P

Good job they don't bar Max (sex god ) they're all really unattractive... Though in JLS, I only find Marvin attractive (incredibly so). Even in The Saturdays, I only fancy Mollie and Una. Vanessa is the best Saturday though

Really? I gotta go watch this video then.

I'm not talking about music videos (although you could say JLS have wore nothing but vest tops and gave the camera 'sexy' looks in all their videos :puke2:) i'm talking about overall image. When JLS perform live they practically always wear their vests and spend half their performances lifting up their tops and flashing their fans, and I might be wrong but I think they've done tons of photoshoots wearing as little as possible.

As have the Wanted; the Wanted even doing a naked shoot for Cosmo and also another sans clothes shoot for GT.

Seriously both groups are as bad as each other in terms of getting their kit off... seriously though the Wanted can't really give 'sexy looks' to the camera in their videos as they don't exactly excel in the looking sexy department.

Look at how the singles chart is stagnating through generic music, and think about your answer again... ;)

Another Nicki update - she's slowly getting there! :D
