Since starting life as Record Retailer back in 1959, Music Week has been no stranger to change and this week’s edition sees further evolution – it being the first published by Intent Media.

Intent is already the leading business media owner across entertainment sectors such as video games, mobile content, toys, licensing, musical instruments, live sound and home computing. Music content is a natural addition to our portfolio.

But unlike previous owners, we are a small, independent, specialist business. We are excited to have taken over Music Week, but some surgery is required so that it can continue to serve its community.

Without us acquiring Music Week, it would have been closed – all that history gone forever. Intent wants to develop the brand where it can, via print, digital, online, mobile and events. But this will be a significant challenge and will take time. And no element of the current MW business is sacred. I hope readers and commercial partners appreciate our honesty, whilst giving the incredibly hard working editorial and sales staff as much support as possible in the coming months.

And we actively encourage your feedback.

The first change comes with the next edition. Carrying a publication date of Friday August 12th, Music Week will hit the trade on Thursday August 11th and then every subsequent Thursday. It will still carry the charts and all the usual news and analysis, but for instant access to charts from a Sunday night onwards, readers should go to our website. The magazine wil now appear later in the week, but still with unrivalled editorial quality and circulation.

Other changes may follow, based either on economy or a shift in strategy. But please be assured that Intent Media is committed to serving the music community and keeping Music Week alive and essential to your business.

Thank you in advance for your support and patience. We're very proud to be here.

Interesting. Wonder if subscription rates will change and there will be any lost/gained content?

Received Email from MW

Dear Subscriber

Music Week has recently changed ownership. The new owner, Intent Media, is committed to maintaining the high value content that Music Week brings to you each week through its print and digital products. We intend to introduce a number of innovations in the months to come.

As with any new beginning there are some changes.

As from next week (8th August) Music Week magazine will come out on a Thursday. This will allow the brand to fully analyse, comment and report on the week’s business news and data. The Music Week/OCC charts will available as a print PDF for all subscribers to access on MusicWeek.com by 11am on a Monday morning.

This sounds like I won't be able to access the charts till Monday morning :manson: WHY????

And sales content will be posted on Thursdays :another manson: :manson:

Is the name of their new chief Gerald Ratner, by any chance? :P

I'm hoping the new ownership means we might get more sales info. Ideally they'd make all sales info public like they do in the USA (sometimes). But that's just wishful thinking :(

ChartsPlus comes out on Wednesday nights. :)

(Come on, you where expecting a plug!)

If MW change to a annual subsciption which I can't afford, I shall be switching

I think they mean a PDF version of the magazine will be available from Monday morning as is the case now.

Moving the actual publication to a Thursday seems a bit crazy to me. As it is my copy tends to arrive on Wednesday, sometimes as late as Thursday - at this rate it will be out of date before it arrives. As long as they don't start increasing the price.....

edit: mis-read the email! The charts section would be available on Monday as a PDF file - maybe for those who want a paper version at the start of the week. I would think that they'd still post the charts online on Sunday.

I wonder if they will still the 4 week trial. i've been doing the trial since november (lmao). every 4 weeks i just sign up again using different email and name)

They've now stopped the four week trial! It also appears that they've also stopped using subscription.co.uk as their agent, I presume they will now use Intent Media's own in-house subscription department though at the moment you have to phone Music Week's office to subscribe, you can't even do it over the internet.

Here's a brief recap of the new weekly schedule regarding charts:

Sunday: All charts posted on website

Monday: PDFs of singles and albums charts available via website.

Tuesday: Midweeks posted on website.

Wednesday: Digital edition of Music Week goes live.

Thursday: Print edition of Music Week hits desks.

==================

On a separate note you can get the top 100 singles chart and the album chart as a PDF file only for subsribers, so are they going to change the top 75 to a top 100, just like the OCC site.

Cancel that its only a top 75, there is a picture of a top 100 singles how deceiving.

Ugh the digitial version of MW is going out on a Weds

Oh, I'd hoped they would change the top 75 to a top 100 so people would finally stop saying the top 75 is 'still the official chart'. :(

How do you get that?

:D How much is a subscription these days?

With reading the messages regarding the subscriptions being removed from subscriptions.co.uk I have just rang intent media now to check my subscription details are still correct, which thankfully they are.As i pay quarterly by direct debit,i asked if that was still ok to continue and the reply was yes.

So was there a date when the "Official Chart" changed from a Top 75 to a Top 100? I was still under the impression that only Top 75 was "canon"

I contacted Music Week a few days ago regarding my subscription and was informed that all subscribers will soon be getting a letter to inform us of the position re: our subscriptions. They will be continuing to offer subscriptions at monthly, quarterly etc periods as well as annually. However MW need to contact banks to change over subscriptions to MW / Intent Media so there may be a delay in the next payment being taken from bank accounts - I pay monthly and have been told that my next payment should be taken in mid September (it would have been due on 09/09/11 under the old company).
