It makes me so angry/frustrated, if anyone else was releasing this material they'd be ridiculed it's bizarre. 'Grenade' is lyrically one of the worst songs I've ever heard, and this one is just as bad 'looking for something dumb to do, hey baby, I wanna marry you' wtf.

 

It's more annoying that its not just the UK either, it's worldwide success for mediocre material, really odd.

 

I've wondered this so much myself. One thing that I thought is that his songs are good family songs. Like songs that the parents will like, and their daughters will also like. I've still yet to hear anybody talk about The Lazy Song anywhere, but I've noticed a lot of the more conservative girls I know really like Just the Way You Are, and I bet their parents like the song too, and they listen to it together as a family.

They don't really have to be. As long as you have a hook and lyrics people will remember (whether they think they're awful or not) then they're obvious hits. But the fact he gets involved with the music he puts out just adds to it, imo.

 

It also makes a nice change from somebody singing about the stuff he does and what not instead of just singing about being in a club dancing or "that man ain't right for me, uh-uh I'm better than that" sort of stuff.

 

I can kinda see where you're coming from, but there are PLENTY of artists out there writing and producing (imo) better songs and getting nowhere, three #1s and a potential forth for him is just baffling to me. Four Top 10s seems about right for him, they just don't SOUND like #1s to me.

For me, the public response of Just the Way You Are reminded me of You're Beautiful from a few years before. Either loved or hated by most people, despite being one of the most MOR songs of the entire year! :lol:

Just The Way You Are = carbon copy of Doesn't Mean Anything (Alicia Keys), which was miles better, and deserved the number 1 more than this overrated wong.

 

The Lazy Song = horrible song, plus very similar to I'm yours

Yeah it is very DMA, but I truly believe DMA WOULD have been number 1 if the label hadn't f***ed up it's release and released it on the Sunday (during the X Factor performance) instead of the Tuesday (in which it still climbed as high as #3 - 2 days AFTER the performance).

 

I don't see the similarity in IY or TLS but each to their own I guess. :P

 

And Mikal I understand what you mean. I expected JTWYA and 'Grenade' to be number 1's (as they were before the album release etc..) but 'The Lazy Song' really has the video to thank. :lol: without that I think it would have peaked about 6 or 7. (It's one of the most talked about videos of this year)

Do people think Bruno will release more singles after Marry You from this album?

 

Even if he doesn't, he'll be back in the charts on Lighters soon.

 

I also don't really think The Lazy Song sounds like I'm Yours, I thought it sounded more like Billionaire.

I went to see Jessie J in April and was obssessed with her... But to be completely honest i haven't touched her album since then. DILAD is by far the best on the album, and i kind of wished the rest of the songs followed suit, but they didnt. WYA is beautiful and deserves the #1 spot eventually, it's the only one i still listen too!

 

WLN should get top 20, but i doubt it will get top 10

Middle of the Road. Like when a song is not controversial I suppose. MOR songs usually contain no autotune, no rapping, no offensive lyrics, no electronic beats, and usually have instruments like guitar, piano, etc. Stations like Heart FM favour such songs.

 

So for example, Do it Like a Dude isn't very MOR, but Who You Are is. It doesn't mean the song is good or bad, but it means it's a song that can probably be listened to by everyone, rather than those songs geared toward one sub-section of society.

 

EDIT: Reading everybody else's responses, yes MOR songs can often be boring, but not always. :lol:

You and I has been played quite a lot on UK radio. I mean, it is the most cherry-picked track, and did get performed on TV. I heard it for the first time as far back as 2 months ago probably. And I've heard Americano on the radio aswell, on Radio 1 or Radio 2 or something, I can't remember exactly.

'Doesn't Mean Anything' was in a completely different LEAGUE to that trash.

Wow, I just heard Collide on Capital for the first time. Finally!

 

Just heard it for the first time too on radio (capital) on way home in the car, glad radio is kicking off now, probably more once court case is done with and video out.

 

Glad Down With The Trumpets seems to be holding up well at #7, hopefully two songs in top 10 for them in a couple of weeks when Olly Murs releases (most probably #1)

I Was Here has been in the top 1000 ever since the album was released, so I think it's quite popular. When I listened to it, I thought it sounded like Halo though.
