Wouldn't it be hilarious if Maroon 5 got to number 1 in the midweeks, then Rihanna decided to release a brand new song in the middle of the week that snatches the number one spot from them at the last moment, then holds on to the top spot for 10 weeks, just like in 2007?

No. No it would not.

Dev not charting with In The Dark = :(

You are blinded by how well everyone is doing. Normally, its not uncommon not to see ANY songs appear in the top 300 only an hour and a half after they were released, a lot of the time songs don't appear till the morning, its just that there is a bunch of new entries appearing so early this week, which is normally very rare, so I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If she hasn't appeared in the top 300 by about 9 or 10 tomorrow morning, you can then start worrying.

Yeah, out of the 7 major releases this week we've got:

A fairly standard UK urban song (Don't Go)

An, erm, Yasmin - On My Own sounding song (Heaven) - don't really know how to describe this, I sort of want to say UK garage but I know that's wrong...

A dubstep song (Sunlight)

A fairly standard Chris Brown-esque American R&B-ish song (See No More)

A song that sounds a bit like Destination Calabria (In The Dark) - again, don't really know how to describe it

A house (?) instrumental (!) (Lunar)

And Maroon 5, who are just Maroon 5. So 7 pretty different sounding new releases this week.

Yes

With the likes of Foster The People, Ed Sheraan and SFG currently in the Top 40 and Christina Perri and Charlie Simpson looking to do well later on, the Top 40 is starting to look alot more varied than say 6 months ago where it was all R&B/Urban/Dance in the Top 40.

Now we're getting Dubstep Pop, Dance, Ballads, Urban and also Alternative music is slowly starting to make a comeback in the Top 40. :D

I'm not entirely surprised to see Sunlight that high already, Modestep do have a 'sudden big dance hit' feel about them

'In the Dark' is FOUL. Really, REALLY do not see the fuss. It's just standard Dev really. The video also makes me wanna vom. :puke:

Come on 'Heaven' and 'See No More' :D - 'Heaven' won't do well until tomorrow. It happens with most UK urban acts. She's also number 1 on the Albums chart (Wretch 32 is number 2.)

class to see a shock new entry by maroon 5 after all these years...thought wretch 32 would have sold bucket loads this week, catchy and held back for ages, would have been no1 if released last week!!

JON  In The Dark is IMMENSE.

Dear god no. The song is alright, but I am already getting sick of dubstep #1's.

For me, Dubstep is merely yet another indistinguishable sub-genre.

I dunno what it is about her though, maybe its just that she comes awkward but then she's always had confidence issues and being in a girl group full of 4 other beautiful girls wont have helped.

I always preferred Nicola to the others - but I have a thing for redheads, so... ;)

I tried typing out the entire top 100 once, plus positions, movement/new entries, which songs are out etc. Can confirm it took almost an hour exactly.

My spreadsheet extracts positions, artists, & songs in seconds...

I've just heard the new Maroon 5 track for the first time its actually pretty good, until Christina starts wailing towards the end of the track, I actually prefer it as a Maroon 5 track.

For me, I wasn't keen on it *until* Christina's part. :P

I really hope Maroon 5 get the number one. Radio one need to learn their adds to playlist are not always crucial for getting an artist to number one. Looking on the airplay chart, Maroon 5 were only at no. 26!

It's also a good song

Wow. Can't believe Christina Aguilera is so high! :o Who'd have thought Christina Aguilera would ever be doing so well in the UK again? :o :cheer:

I hope Dev does well. Such a tune. And also Wretch 32 and Emeli need to do well aswell.

Has David Guetta been released yet?

Maroon 5/Xtina - HA

2011 has been hilarious for me chartwise. The strangest acts have been returning to the charts bigger than ever - Nicole Scherzinger, J.Lo, Maroon 5/Xtina and to a lesser extent Sia and Marc Anthony. Irrelevance is a thing of the past, clearly anyone can return bigger than ever with the right hype around a song but I wouldn't have put any money on ANY of these acts having substantial hits this year.

That's so true. Even lower down the charts aswell, it's funny seeing people like Missy Elliott, The Game, even Royce da 5'9'' and Otis Reading there!

Me - albeit not with *this* song... :o

I thought it was obvious that if Moves Like Jagger was released in the UK it'd be a big hit!
