I enjoyed Kill Hannah Juranamo :P

It'll definitely be the biggest this year, no question. It depends on the status of the non-voters though. 48+8=56, but three didn't vote. Assuming they're all banned, we'll have 53, one short of the record. We should equal it or beat it though, as I can't see all the non-voters being banned.

Well it done marginally better than Black Gold.

I better get thinking then, only just realised confirmation closes on Saturday. :o

Well, assuming we go up to 56 (which we probably won't, but bear with...) that means we have 28 in each semi. So with a 28-country final, that's cutting it by exactly half. And going by the literal definition of semi-final, that works.

Of course, that's rather harsh, but I'm not sure how big the final could be. The more countries in the final, the more songs required to listen and judge between, and that's hard enough with 28 (going from my experience of listening to all the final entries from last contest, I loved so many of them). Maybe it could be increased a little, as having half the participants not qualifying...

It felt tough enough trying to qualify from a semi-final where 10/24 were knocked out in the semi final. I wouldn't mind an increase to 30 countries in the final, as two more entries to listen to in the final isn't much effort (although I listen to all the entries at the semi final stage anyway). But it's whatever the mods decide if the number of participants turns out to be as big as we are anticipating.

To be honest, we will probably cap this at 50 something. It was discussed last time but we didn't reach it.

Ah, just read the first post and the 3 non-voters are banned so if everyone from last contest minus them particpates then we have:

45+8=53, so we just fall short of the overall record, but it'll be the biggest final in a while surely?

I think a cap of 50 would be good, 25 in each semi with 14 qualifying, that'd be a little over half. First come first serve. It may be a bit unfair on the later countries though. Just my thoughts, we'll have to wait and see how the mods decide to deal with such demand.

Yeah, I think the record is 54 isn't it? We'll end up having 3 semi-finals ;)

EDIT: Yes, I just checked, 54 entries in BJSC 20 :)

That's too risky. It gives even more potential for the wrong songs to end up in the final by virtue of who ends up in the semi. If a strong indie song is drawn in with only pop countries then it's got little to no chance of going any further. In two semis it's usually ok aside from the odd shock DNQ but we could end up having a ton of 'wrong semi' DNQ's every month. A cap would be better than having a final with no variety imo, I guess it will just encourage people to confirm earlier.

Yeah, this is how we ended up last time when it came to this point - three semis just wouldn't work.

In honesty I think you can go up to 60 if you have 30 in a final, if you have 59 then you can have the host auto-qualify without too much hassle (it's when you start going over the boundary of half the entrants qualifying that you get issues) - I know it seems to have developed a bit of resentment from a few unnamed observers, but I really do think autoqualifying (especially for 2nd placers) becomes even less acceptable when you have numbers like this.

Also  at Addy being surprised Criminal got vetoed. We're talking about one of the big fan favourites from one of the year's biggest fempop albums on Buzzjack? And there's no way it would've won - it's far too old now and everyone's over it.

He was taking the piss!

We were discussing potential entries of his the other day and Britney certainly wasn't one of them!

There is often the worry of having "too many" entries and it never really seems to happen, so I'm not too concerned, but nevertheless, there will be a cap of some sort; discussions are taking place.

The three semi-final option will not be happening.

Oh thank goodness  For a second I was thinking Addy had gone genuinely dense!

Wee bit Ironic that a mass overload of new/returning countries this month rather than last month with a more(even, I think, the most!) experienced host.

Excuse me but I do have some organisational skills you know, I am a bloody teacher!!! :P

:D

You think mod's would let that go and not put me on a wall of shame if i tried to send criminal.

However, rich and i were surprised that my original song got vetoed.

It's nowhere near cheap or hyped and probably only few of people here have heard of.

I could sort of understand it being vetoed in a way as said act already has a fanbase here of sorts and it's their lead single from the new era, although based on their past form in BJSC, which is patchy at best, and having heard the song myself a few times now, which is good but not wildly better than their other entries, I don't think you were cheated of a winner Addy. The reason I was surprised at it being vetoed is because the act only really has a profile as big as somebody like Cocknbullkid, probably lesser than that in fact. Some people have heard of them but they're not on any radio playlists and probably never will be, and I doubt more than 3 or 4 people at this point have already heard the song.

Because then on the other hand it looks like the most hyped and praised indie song of the year thus far, which far more people will have already heard and is already topping personal charts across Buzzjack with 75 points probably in the bag before the contest even begins, is good to go (unless that's also been vetoed at this point, I don't actually know the full list ) so it's hard to tell what will and will not be allowed in! As I've said before though, each individual has a different perspective of what they call 'cheap' or 'uninspired' so I'm glad that it's not me that has to do the vetting as I wouldn't know where to begin with some of the entries.

I've just done something stupid. I've confirmed. :heehee: I'm going to have to do my Final votes as soon as the finalists are announced because I'll be without internet from the 30th onwards! I don't care too much about missing the final because I'm pretty certain I won't qualify.
Last time we had 48, so adding the debuting/returning countries we have 56 :o Assuming everyone from last contest takes part, as there were some non-voters who I don't remember the current status of and I think Espen were in doubt as Cal is moving house. So we may either equal, beat or just fall short of the record.

! Well it's not like anything else CAN happen! :P

 By that I meant we'll either just beat it or fall short, by one or two people. :P

I didn't want to post this, incase I sounded stupid and had misread
