September 12, 201113 yr 05 - 33 Gwen Stefani 'What You Waiting For?' (29-38-11-153-33-05) (392 points) UK #4 f5qICl3Fr3w Another song reaching a new Record of the Decade peak now, reaching the top 10 for the first time is the debut solo single for Gwen Stefani, with What You Waiting For? She's a previous winner of the competition, her band No Doubt winning with signature hit Don't Speak in 2007. Although her first album Love Angel Music Baby was a huge seller it didn't produce any hits higher than #4. What You Waiting For was more popular than its peak chart position suggests, becoming an anthem to many a pop fan and it was what No Doubt fans had been waiting for too. It's been a while since we've heard from Gwen or No Doubt but a return has been talked about for a long while. Much higher than I expected! Slightly embarrassing how obsessed I was with this song back in 04/05 but it really is my favourite pop single of all time. Edited September 12, 201113 yr by ▲▲▲
September 12, 201113 yr I love both songs but Rihanna please to win  Robyn is too overated on this site sadly - luckily the 1 song of hers I love is the one battling out for number one. Umbrella is not my fave Rihanna song but it's so amazing!!! I'm happy with this top 3, Back To Black is overated for me I much prefer Rehab. Great to see Gwen so high, I loved that song since it first came out. One of my favourite songs ever and I'd chose it to win over anything else in the top 5 (even Rihanna) Edited September 12, 201113 yr by danielXF
September 12, 201113 yr Author Umbrella? Erm.... 07 - 03 Rihanna ft. Jay-Z 'Umbrella' (05-02-03-07) (354 points) UK #1 CvBfHwUxHIk&ob In the summer of 2007 this song was completely unavoidable, it was even blamed for the poor summer weather in the country. Becoming the longest number one of the century spending a whole 10 weeks at the summit of the chart this song turned Rihanna from a popstar with reasonable commercial success to a superstar, one of the biggest artists on the planet. Despite never really having much of a break (it does feel like she's been constantly around since she emerged) she's managed to remain incredibly popular and people haven't really got that tired of her. However nothing she's done since has ever really managed to get close to matching the popularity of Umbrella. It's frightening to think how much this would've sold had the 2007 sales climate been similar to todays, it would be a million seller though for sure. Here it stays in the top 10 but exits the top 5 for the first time in its four years here.
September 12, 201113 yr Sorry had a braindead moment and thought Rihanna was still in  OK, so yeah Lady GaGa to win
September 12, 201113 yr Author 02 - 07 Robyn 'With Every Heartbeat' (33-125-07-02) (435 points) 01 - 01 Lady GaGa 'Bad Romance' (01-01) (494 points) 3vfLvZCdT9g qrO4YZeyl0I&ob So Bad Romance becomes the first song to win this competition twice, after beating her own song Poker Face last year it comfortably beats Robyn's With Every Heartbeat this time around, finishing 59 points in front. With Every Heartbeat was the first the UK had heard from Robyn since her 1998 top 10 hit Show Me Love, it entered the chart straight at the top becoming her first and so far only chart topper. She has a huge following on here so it's perhaps no surprise that With Every Heartbeat climbs five places this year. Less than a year after Just Dance was released Lady Gaga released her second album, The Fame Monster, released separately in some places but here it was added on to The Fame to make a deluxe edition. Released pretty much as soon as it premiered it took a while before it made number one, becoming her third of (so far) four chart toppers. As many songs take falls in their second year and as none of her other songs have improved this year, it's perhaps a surprise that it's stayed at the top, and by such a margin too.

September 12, 201113 yr Awesome top 3, for me Mr Brightside >>>>>>>>>> Bad Romance >>>>> With Every Heartbeat but they're all great.
September 12, 201113 yr I'm surprised Mr Brightside got another new peak :o great though, a fantastic top 3 and a predictable if still worthy winner, I think the fact it stayed at number 1 in it's second year shows it's lasting status, as a lot of songs take big falls to a position more 'accurate' in the second year thanks for doing this RFC, I always like this game ^_^
September 12, 201113 yr Well done Rabbit Fur Coat on running the comp - glad Bad Romance beat Robyn (don't get her appeal at all, although saying that I voted for neither GaGa or Robyn to win - so Bad Romance is the lesser of two evils)
September 12, 201113 yr Would've preferred a 'With Every Heartbeat' win out of the two but 'Bad Romance' is somewhat a modern classic it seems, so I'd say that's still a deserved winner. Brilliant to see Gwen climbing into the top 5 and 'Dancing On My Own' entering pretty high!
September 12, 201113 yr I prefer the top 3 backwards! But all three are brilliant songs, so a good result. Thanks RFC for running this, it feels like it's been going for ever.
September 12, 201113 yr Boring winner. I still can't believe how poorly Mr. Brightside performed in the chart initially! Why could people not see how good it is then? Must be the absolute definition of a grower. I loved it on first listen but it took a lot of listens for it to find its way eventually to becoming one of my favourite songs of all time. A very deserved top 3 finish and I'm hoping it can do the impossible and win next year (which would make it the first male winner yes?) Thanks for running this RFC. :D Edited September 12, 201113 yr by Bré

September 12, 201113 yr Even though you ranked it two places lower than another song still to come?! :drama: I couldn't remember what was left/what I voted for, oops! I should have said Bad Romance ftw and I'm glad it has although admittedly it wasn't one of my top ten songs of the 00's (probably 11th or 12th)...
September 12, 201113 yr Author Boring winner. I still can't believe how poorly Mr. Brightside performed in the chart initially! Why could people not see how good it is then? A very deserved top 3 finish and I'm hoping it can do the impossible and win next year (which would make it the first male winner yes?) Thanks for running this RFC. :D Mr Brightside spent 7 weeks at number one in my Personal Chart in 2004! :D Thanks everyone for the thank you's, thanks for all taking part and voting! I've enjoyed doing it, something to do whilst bored and unemployed...
September 12, 201113 yr Beyond Gwen (who is good but not THAT good), I can't really argue with any of that top 10. In fact if you take Biology and Untouchable out (loons aside, they really CAN'T be classed amongst the definitive forty of the decade), that's a very solid top 40. We just need to get the likes of MGMT and Empire Of The Sun even higher next time.
September 13, 201113 yr 'Mr Brightside' is truly astounding! It really is the greatest song ever made, imo. I really do hope it'll win one year. Nice to see it still climbing and growing though. 'Hung Up', 'What You Waiting For' and 'Hey Ya' are quite possibly three of my most overrated songs ever. I honestly do not get why they are so popular  Each respective artist have FAR better imo. :(
September 13, 201113 yr I'm delighted Mr Brightside is top 3. Overall good top 15. Thanks for doing this Rabbit :)
