I think Will will be holding onto that record for good.First week sales for the others, not sure about Joe.

Not surprised with Olly at all, especially after his brilliant first week sales, very infectous song. Great support from TV/Radio too.

So Aloe Blacc will be a one hit wonder, shame really, good voice, but could see it happening.

Aloe Black is also 305.

Suppose it was the first real talent show winner though thats probably why, I havn't seen the figures but I'm guessing theres been a steady decline of sales from the winners singles first week year on year? maybe with the exception of leona lewis.

Not true in the slightest...

Hear'Say 'Pure and Simple' - 549,839 [2001]

Will Young 'Anything Is Possible'/'Evergreen' - 1,108,659 [2002]

Girls Aloud 'Sound of the Underground' - 213,140 [2002]

Michelle McManus 'All This Time' - 117,927 [2004]

Steve Brookstein 'Against All Odds' - 153,770 [2004]

Shayne Ward 'That's My Goal' - 742,180 [2005]

Leon Jackson 'When You Believe' - 290,742 [2007]

Alexandra Burke 'Hallelujah' - 576,046 [2008]

Joe McElderry 'The Climb' - 450,770 [2009]

Matt Cardle 'When We Collide' - 439,007 [2010]

I think most surprising of all is Matt selling fewer on his first week than Joe!

Anyway, onto this week's chart, and it was never going to be anyone but One Direction. I do really like the song though, so I'm not bothered about its obvious huge sales for this week.

Leon Jackson 'When You Believe' - 290,742 [2007]

Poor Leon. :( That's dreadful first week sales. :(

BTW, does anyone else agree reality TV peaked in 2008? I mean, X Factor Series 5 was imo the greatest one ever (Alexandra, JLS, Ruth Lorenzo, Laura White, Diana Vickers.....Beyonce on the final, Britney's performance, the controversy around Laura being sent home, Purple Rain, Cheryl Cole's first year), Big Brother Series 9 was probably the last half-decent one before it plummeted downhill quality wise in the next two years, we had a great series of Britains Got Talent (besides George Sampson winning) and I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here was entertaining besides Joe Swash winning. It seems like 2008 was the last "proper" year of reality TV before it all turned into a big cartoon the following year. :(

Joe's first week sales were massively boosted by the RATM campaign. When We Collide has sold a lot more than The Climb overall.

Yes, but the whole Joe McElderry v Rage Against The Machine thing increased the profile in that week, I think I remember seeing people buying "The Climb" multiple times, anything to stop Rage Against The Machine, and of course vice versa.

Thanks for that, quite interesting.

Perhaps what stands out the most when you look at that list is the distinct averageness of the winners. Not something that you really see until you look at a list like that.

With the exception of Leona, Will and maybe Alexandra

Na Na Na seems to be doing an Umbrella (JLS version obv). I wonder if it'll be excluded from the chart or have a large chunk of its sales disqualified for some reason. Or if it'll just chart normally like 'Forgiveness' and 'This One's For The Girls'. I'm sure it'll be showing up as a top 10 new entry in the first mids anyway -_-

Fixed.

One Direction have had help with Simon Cowell's unlimited I-tune voucher. All the hype has made this #1.

Someone please....have they ANY dirt on the group.

Last year should have been the best it had really good singers in Matt, Rebecca, Aidan and TreyC and a duet that should have been outstanding with Christina and Rebecca. There was too much manipulation though and the judges made it all about them so 2008 is still the peak Rachel and Austin were also really good that year.

It looks like One Direction will sell more than Pixie, The Sats and Leona combined this week.

One Direction-Na Na Na

Whats this?

The B-Side to What Makes You Beautiful.

:D I saw this post coming weeks ago. You're so predictable Joinwithus. Same thing for Matt Cardle in a month :)

Only 200k? :D At the rate they're going, One Direction could be heading for 300k. :o If they sell anywhere near 100k by the first set of midweeks then that'll be the big indicator that 'What Makes You Beautiful' is definitely going to be the fasted selling single of 2011 so far - I can only see The X Factor winners single most likely to beat that record. Don't even think Matt Cardle's new single will have such impressive first week sales.
