They were exactly right to do so, did you even watch that performance? It was a shambles.

The performance was fine. What exactly were you expecting? And the thing that's actually important is that the song was good (apart from lacking in melody a bit tbh).

The headlines the next day "Britney Spears mimes on national TV". Yes thanks, because clearly NOBODY KNEW THAT.

She should never perform in the UK ever again. So many people here hate her. She should perform in a country where people appreciate her (so anywhere else in Europe, etc.).

Appreciate what exactly? she's put her name to some very good pop songs, but a good live singer she is not.

Miming is so half-arsed and the fact that the rest of the performance was rubbish too didn't help.

Yeah, I know. I think I just meant like they'd just enjoy it for what it is. In this country with things like that, a lot of people just focus on the negative. You just know half the people aren't watching it to be entertained, they're watching it to look for any way to criticize Britney. They've already made their mind up that they won't enjoy the performance before its even happened, but they watch it anyway, just so the next day they can go to work and mock all the people there that like her. I think Britney and her management know this, which is why I think she's better off performing infront of people who are a bit more positively cultured (i.e. NOT England ).

I think we are incredibly positively cultured in some ways, just not towards Britney. The British public is quite fickle but they DO give artists a fair chance, unlike in many other places. Slightly controversial but I'm sure Britney wouldn't have the backing she does in Middle America if she was black. Institutionalised racism (and prejudice in general) are far less prominent over here. Look at George Michael - revelations which had nothing to do with the music basically sank his career in the US but he was a record-selling force for many years after over here. At least the UK's dislike for Britney stems from something musical.

True.

America's such a weird country though. Probably because it's so big aswell, but you've got people who are so liberal that the artists can go to prison 20 times, have sex with underage girls, beat up women, etc. and nobody cares as long as the music is good (but these people tend to be fans of RnB and hip hop artists), and then you've got, on the other end of the spectrum people there who seem to like an artist as long as he/she has strong family values, has no criminal record, goes to church, doesn't show cleavage, etc, and from a music perspective, they can only like the artist if they play an instrument and write their own lyrics (but those people tend to be fans of country and rock artists).

The latter group of people, for example, loved Britney when she was pretending to be a virgin ("Oh, you're such an inspiration, I want my children to be like you!!!"), but those same people had been campaigning to get all Britney Spears accessories banned from shops and her songs taken off the radio after that magazine cover. So those people kind of piss me off, because her songs didn't change, but their opinions on them changed so much.

So it's true what you said about the UK being a bit more rational since people hate her for her music.

I do wonder what it would've been like if Britney was black. I've thought the same about quite a few artists. I think for a lot of them their careers would've ended up completely different if they were a different colour.

229. Who You Are - Jessie J

Video was put up on VEVO last night, should break top 200 today, and hopefully get near the top 100 tonight, she could get a small boost from

being on X Factor tonight, as Tulisa's judges houses help.

Does anyone know Who You Are's top 200 chart run so far? I think this will be another top 10 hit for her. So many people love the song.
 197 Keri Hilson - Lose Control/Let Me Down
Going to see her in 11 days! Am I excited? AM I EXCITED??! I somehow want this to miraculously break the top 40. But it obviously won't :drama:

It's doing better than I expected though. Are you seeing her in Birmingham?! :o

I am shocked it has even made the top 200 on iTunes! Should really be massive for her though, if its going on the song, but Keri doesn't seem to want to promote over here at all and the radios don't seem to support her, her management is rather terrible. Have a good time, I saw her live a few years ago and she was great .

I resent the common ground between country and rock - rock fans in the US tend to only care as long as the music is "real" (which basically bans any band from becoming any more mainstream-friendly because they're dismissed as sellouts) or it "rocks" (so anyone who diversifies into less heavy territory is dismissed as being a pussy). Fans of big bands are often very loyal but at the same time there's a MASSIVE youth market which in the last twenty years has latched onto a record and sent the band completely stratospheric - that's what happened to Green Day with "Dookie" and Linkin Park with "Hybrid Theory" which both went Diamond, meaning 10 million album sales or 10x platinum (ie. the boundary Adele has just crossed with "21", which gives you an idea of the scale of those records).

I think we have some idea of what Britney's career path would have been like had she been black - we have Whitney Houston

It's doing better than I expected though. Are you seeing her in Birmingham?! :o
Yeah I am! :D She definitely has some sort of fanbase here to do as well as she does without promo, airplay etc... 'I Like''s chart performance showed that. If only her label would actually capitalise on it and try to even expand and try and gain some new fans for her. Although when she does come over and promote with decent playlisting on Radio 1, it stalls just outside the top 40. So she can't win haha!

I used to have quite a lot of Linkin Park-obsessed friends. It was crazy really. I know what you mean, they were really, really huge at one point.

What you said about rock music being mainstream aswell. It's almost like a vicious circle. There's not much rock music in the chart, but when a rock song does become big, people start saying it's a pop song, and then you end up going back to no rock songs in the chart. I heard a brief discussion touching on this on Radio 1 the other day.

I think if Britney was black, she would've ended up doing more RnB music.

Have fun!! :D I'm not going (:(), but it's quite exciting knowing I'm going to be vaguely close to Keri Hilson.

For what it's worth, Choice FM and Radio 1Xtra play Keri Hilson quite a bit. But nobody listens to Radio 1Xtra, and everybody who listens to Choice FM illegally downloads.

I think Keri still has a chance of having another big hit one day. When you think about it, it was actually really recently when Knock You Down was MASSIVE.

Here's hoping Maroon 5 will finally get a #1 next week, its their last chance I think, mind you we have be saying that every week (HA) with Matt Cardle and GCH out a week later.

Got a funny feeling GCH are going to get stuck at #2 behind Matt Cardle (Live performance on the first X Factor live show), pretty ironic with Adam Levine featuring on the track.

I don't know about Matt going #1... I love him & like the song, but I've only heard it once on the radio... (Well maybe it has better airplay in the UK, it has nothing here in Ireland!) .... Hopefully MLJ can go #1 & GCH #2! Love Hearts a Stereo, the verses are kinda boring but it's the chorus that makes it

I think Run For Your Life may start the week ahead on iTunes, be overtaken by Stereo Hearts on about Thursday or Friday and end up just barely keeping official #1. So basically exactly the same as what Moves Like Jagger has done a few times

However, it could also just be Stereo Hearts being ahead the whole week and getting #1 officially. Either way I'm certain Stereo Hearts will be #1 at least by the end of the week.

Lana Del Rey is also released that week isn't she? It'll be interesting how she competes with GCH and Matt. And I think Timbaland/Pitbull are also out then but I can only see them going low top 10 at best, like Morning After Dark (which entered at #9 but actually climbed in its second week somehow)

It be quite ironic if GCH get stuck #2 for a couple of weeks, and somehow grabs a week at #1 down the line  If Rihanna decides to release her track early.

I feel positive Rihanna will go to #1 whenever she releases, if she releases on the week of 17 October, GCH will get stuck behind her for a couple of weeks, I think, its too difficult to predict the #1 with these 3 artists floating around, Matt Cardle could bomb on Week 2

Week 1 Matt Cardle at #1, GCH #2

Week 2 Rihanna at #1, GCH #2 (17 Oct ??) if Rihanna releases this week, otherwise GCH #1

With GCH stuck at #2 for a couple of weeks and could manage a week after

It had a (40-50-xx) chart run in the T100 - so I can't imagine it's T200 run looking much better. I'm hoping it can go on to become a massive Christmas seller, similar to 'Cry Me Out' by Pixie Lott. I reckon an X-Factor performance is on the cards, we've heard in the past that Simon Cowell really respects Jessie as an artist - and with three T10 hits in the UK, she's hardly a mediocre performer.
