It really is so weird that every week Joe falls a massive amount in the first mids and then recovers incredibly well by the end of the week. It's not even just a case of him overtaking the new releases either. Even older albums overtake him and then he catches them again.

This is the theory why Joe's sales change during the week. Most of the sales are from physicals, not downloads. This is because the album appeals to an older audience. These people (such as me) don't buy from the Internet but usually pick up an album or two with their weekly shopping which they do on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Does that make sense to you?

Actually I bought my copy from Amazon and got it in the first week and then a second copy for my sister in the second week which I downloaded. So I am the exception to the above rule.

Thanks! That does actually make a lot of sense.

I would agree with this! However as an avid twitter user I know he has a lot of young fans also. I think hes got some of the older fans back with this album and the younger ones who are very dedicated have gone with it. Hence better sales than Wide Awake. Joe is a real housewives favourite whether those wives are 30 or 60!

I also find it strange that people think itunes has any real baring on the album chart. I have noticed for a long time their chart is no real reflection on the top 40 at the end of the week. I think its much more for singles than albums.

That's a bit of a moot point as the mids are posted at the start of the thread for that very reason

It seems bizarre that in a week where we have one of the most interesting top 3 battles of recent times (Sak Noel vs. Goo Goo Dolls vs. Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera) the discussion in the thread is dominated by Joe McElderry vs. Will Young in their 6th week of release when neither are in the top 5

Indeed

also and more probably joe's album is just selling consistently day after day. so on the 1st set of mids when all the new albums come out, his say 3k he sold puts him at 17 (this is an example) but 'X' artists new album shifts 5k for the 1st mids. joe continues to sell 3k every day, while 'X' new album only averages 2k each day after, then joe just ends up overtaking them as the week goes on.

i would also think joe is a bit of an impulse purchase to, for older ladies out shopping, and saturday is shopping day.

There isn't any album info yet, will be posted when available, maybe with all the Will & Joe talk they decided not to bother :D

No it's not. It is more likely Thursday or Friday.

That's supermarket day, saturday is a bigger high street day.

It's presumably a combo of all of those things.

Is Noel Gallagher top 40 still?

LOL is this our punishment? :) I'm getting withdrawals!

Compton's post specifically referred also to the fact that Joe overtakes OLDER albums as well as the week goes on, not just new ones.

That travesty still at #1??

Why bizarre? In all the updates so far it has been 1. Sak Noel, 2. Goo Goo Dolls, 3. Maroon 5

Surely there is more of a reason to talk about singles/albums that have shown some movement in the midweeks?

Who knows maybe Broken Strings can make a welcomed return to top 40 this week? :heehee: #36 on iTunes atm.

If anyone is waiting for a Friday album update its not coming, what you see is what you get :( Surely its not that difficult to post both charts at the same time
