September 29, 201114 yr Hands All Over is a really great album. Can we drop the Will/Joe stuff? It's not even as if either album is going to be no.1 and they're both doing better than was initially expected so well done to them both. Can we please go at least 24 hours without posts like 'I'm so happy Joe's higher than Will' or 'Will is more credible than Joe' blah blah blah? Completely agree - it got boring/irritating which drove me to post what I did - only saw Suggy's post after I'd done mine, or I wouldn't have bothered posting. What I have been meaning to say though is a HUGE thank you to those who've been kindly posting regular updates from Music Week for us. Thank you so much! :) Edited September 29, 201114 yr by CShell
September 29, 201114 yr Have to say I don't get this music snobbery (sorry but that's how it comes across) from some. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head to buy a single or album. I'm sure for most people, if they like it enough (from airplay, samples, etc) they'll buy. Personally I don't give a stuff whether the artist has written the track(s) or not (a good singer may not necessarily be a good song writer anyway) or whether the artist is perceived as 'cool' or not - I judge by what sounds good to me, what I think I'm likely to enjoy hearing time and again. Maybe I'm in the minority though. Of the 3 most recent albums I bought, Joe's Classic is my most played, followed by Maroon 5 (I'm another who's gutted they keep missing out on the #1 slot for MLJ), followed by Will's Echoes. I'm delighted that both Joe & Will are standing their ground in charts which are currently very fluid. I only wish Hands All Over had remained higher in the charts too, it's a great album. If this was on Twitter I would retweet that :) Don't think you're in a minority at all.

Happy too but there does appear to be a trend of Will fans who think Will deserves to outsell Joe and is more credible. It comes across as very snobby. Surely they should just be bothered about him selling more not just selling more than Joe? I havent seen anyone say they hope Joe outsells Will tho (its ok I know you are generalising). I think most of the pro Joe posts I've seen are just happy that Joe is still holding his own against Will and others released around the same time and after.

Got both albums ages ago but I'd rate 21 higher than 19 so the chart order is reflecting my preferences too! Am addicted to 'Set Fire to the Rain' - good to see she's not slipping down the charts in midweeks for this track, would be even better to see it climb back up :) Edited September 29, 201114 yr by CShell
September 29, 201114 yr Author I'm not fussed who's selling less or more between Will and Joe, hell even Shayne Ward was selling more than Will a couple of years ago and so were G4, nothing's ever assured in the music industry today and so even though Joe's higher than Will at the moment, he's just setting off on his career journey and nobody lnows where he'll be in a couple of years. So let him enjoy it as it might all go tots up on his next album. I think the word you were looking for was "tits up"

Maybe I'm in the minority though. Here, Here. I remember a few years back, when Rhydian and Barrowman both released albums the same week. Barrowman had previously been partly responsible for Rhydian not getting through to the live shows on ALW task to find Joseph, (because he didn't think he was suitable for that particular part, not because he didn't think he could sing). There was a lot of malicious glee directed by some Rhydian fans on some forums against Barrowman when Rhydian's album charted high, and Barrowman's (his 2nd for Sony) at the lower end of the top 40. They called Barrowman, amongst other things , 'a nobody' who had never done anything. I would point out that at that time I had actually bought a ticket to see Rhydian perform, and quiet liked him (and still do as a singer, even though not entirely impressed by his albums), so was in no way anti-Rhydian, but it p**sed me off that the Rhydian fans were completely ignoring Barrowman's nearly 20 years in the business in one form of another. I really don't understand it when some 'fans' slag off other singers. After all we all have different musical tastes. Anyway bearing in mind that Barrowman''s latest album has dropped out of the top 40 (not surprisingly with an album containing songs that most fans already have - I was actually surprised it got to no 12), and that this thread is about this weeks charts. I have to say, from what I've heard I like Joe's singing style on the current album. I also like Wills (though not as much as his previous one). I haven't bought either though (lack of funds). The last album I bought was Alfie Boe.
September 29, 201114 yr Maybe he's alienated some of his older fans with the change of style. Yes this has happened in my case. Hope he changes back or to something else (not rap or hip hop!)
September 29, 201114 yr Happy too but there does appear to be a trend of Will fans who think Will deserves to outsell Joe and is more credible. It comes across as very snobby. Cant everyone just let it drop, i am a Will fan but its even boring me and putting me off coming to the thread...so i dread to think what other posters are thinking  If posters really feel the need to post everyday about it, a thread could be started in the pop forum or even on this forum if its allowed, visitors dont want to be trawling through all this to get chart info. :P
September 29, 201114 yr Why is 'The Edge Of Glory' back in the top 40? Was it used on X Factor again? I remember Born This Way being used fairly prominently at boot camp but not TEOG. Kasabian up on yesterday :D Looks like GGD won't be #1 then as Sak Noel is now ahead of them combined on iTunes and Maroon 5 are about to snatch their iTunes #1 again EDIT: already have. Hopefully they can stay #2 but the predicted Sak-M5 top 2 is now starting to seem like the most likely outcome (with GGD at #3). Also, anyone know why Mumford & Sons' album is back in the top 20? Not complaining obviously. Probably on sale somewhere I'd guess? Just realised J Cole is in the top 20, very surprised with that considering he hasn't even had a hit single and is doing better than some other American rappers who did have hits (Wiz Khalifa springs to mind). 21 still at 5+1 today, surely it'll be back up to #5 tomorrow? Or could it really be out of the top 5 this week? :o '19' definitely looking like it'll be out of the top 10, with all of her singles dropping as well this is a bit of an 'ouch' week for Adele in the UK. Ah well, her continuing success in the USA makes up for that  SLY video premiering today, I wonder if it'll have any effect in the UK? I don't think it will to be honest although hopefully it will help in the US. Nicola Roberts seems to not be flopping too hard :o Looks like she's the second most successful solo Girl Aloud then, a reunion must not be far off now. I wonder if Kimberley and Sarah will bother releasing solo albums? Edited September 29, 201114 yr by Bré
September 29, 201114 yr I'm starting to think I'm the only person in the UK that doesn't own an Adele album :)

September 29, 201114 yr Oh well. He's on BBC Breakfast at 8.50 Thursday morning, so hopefully that gives him a slight boost. Did you see it? Did they have a birthday cake for him?
September 29, 201114 yr I think the word you were looking for was "tits up" Yes I was just acting like a lady Mart!n, which as you know I certainly am. :smoke:
September 29, 201114 yr Disclaimer, apologies in advance, please don't read if you are fed up with this debate :) Has anyone actually slagged Joe off in this thread? It's makes me laugh that if anyone even hints anything that's not 100% positive and raving about Joe's success, there is an immediate retort. Allowing people their opinions runs both ways. Joe is a great guy, have said it before. However, he is simply not credible in many people's eyes as yet. For many people credibility involves having more creative input and songwriting abilities than Joe has yet shown. OK, for some that isn't necessary and that's fine too! He may become credible in all people's eyes, and I hope he does, but it's a fact that you have to earn credibility in the music industry, especially when you come from a TV show (or two!), and then put out an album of covers off the back of one of them, albeit well sung ones. I know people want to drop the comparison thing, but there seems to be an implication that Will is doing poorly in comparison to Joe. In fact his album is selling better than his last studio album at 5 weeks, and even more than Keep On, which went on to sell over a million. It is already at no. 33 in the year to date chart. Fans are really happy with his success with it so far. He's only on single no. 1, which is still well inside the top 20 today. He will have 2-4 more singles he can release as time goes on, it's very early days! He may have dropped a few older fans with his new sound, but he seems to have gained some younger fans, so that's all fine. I really will try and shut up now :P  PS, I'm really please Nicola is doing well. Strange she released such an odd single?? Edited September 29, 201114 yr by fatmuffin
September 29, 201114 yr I'm a bit late on this, but I want to say I'm very pleased to see Nicola is holding strongly in the top 15 ! I was never expecting her to climb back up from yesterday's position ! Very happy news :)

September 29, 201114 yr Oh can people please SHUT THE HELL UP about this pointless crap, I can understand it when it's Pixie vs The Saturdays vs Leona for #1 because they're all well-liked Buzzjack artists and they are actually competing for a meaningful chart position. Take it elsewhere, please.
