I really like Jewels N Drugs but they need one less rapper, preferable cut out the one in the middle (Too Short?) and add another Gaga bit somewhere, and there's a REALLY fab song there.

10 Aura - dance. sex. ART. POP TECH!

07 Venus - ok, the levels of pleasure that chorus is giving me make this really an 8. But the lyrics and stop start backing track really can't be ignored. Very much a guilty pleasure. Whether, like Judas, it will reveal itself over time to be a genuinely really good song remains to be seen.

09 GUY - THAT MIDDLE 8... I'm melting. A few gripes though: "Aph-ro-di-TEE", the slightly flat chorus and the way it sounds as if she's singing "jye", not guy. Still... I don't need TO BE ON TOP!

09 Sexxx Dreams - been growing up on me like an erect Asian lover all week. I kinda love that she just wanted to devout an album to the theme of shagging this time.

08 Jewels n Drugs - DON'T EVEN CARE. This fahhhmily is STUPID ATTRACTIVE.

08 Manicure - good fun, living for the swirly electro rock outro.

09 Do What U Want - still awesome, but the disastrous live perfs have taken the shine off just a tad pour moi.

09 Artpop - one of the most frustrating because I NEED those glorious backing vocals to be higher in the mix. The elegant lovechild of Kylie and Eurythmics. But with better mixing it could be a 10. DJWS has to go.

08 Swine - yes, I do hate myself for this. SWOYN!

09 Donatella - this is that campy kitsch vibe she was aiming for with Venus. The difference being this is a rock solid groove.

07 Fashion - nice verses, but that chorus is such a nothing. Total filler.

06 MJH - pleasant enough (if transparently attempting to replicate the brooding joys of Bloody Mary), but I think I will be culling this from my playlist.

07 Dope - I really have to be in a certain frame of mind for this. I quite like her drunkenly emotional vocal, but those dire lyrics make it quite the slog.

11 Gypsy - right up there. Proof that when she puts the melody at the front of the song, and teams up with a capable producer, no other bitch can compete.

10 Applause - j'adore

 

So yeah. I quite like it.

This is looking at a 250-275k opener in the US. Could be blocked from #1 by Eminem's second week. Not great. They need to really start pushing 'Do What You Want' now.

Decent album, probably about what I was expecting. Totally baffled by the mass love for Sexxx Dreams though, so disappointed given what I'd read. Gypsy didn't disappoint though, thankfully. Jewels N Drugs, MANiCure, Artpop and Fashion are all pretty poor. But, Swine, Aura and Gypsy are all amazing, so that's something

At least 'Gypsy' can join the likes of 'Paparazzi', 'Dance In the Dark' and 'The Edge of Glory' in being the major, pop anthem of the album. It seems like she's guaranteed to deliver at least one of these per era. So that's good.

Still disappointing me. I like it, but not anywhere near as much as I want/hoped to! I guess I'll just stick to predictable, basic and generic pop.

After a few listens, a couple of changes, but tbh I find myself just going back to a select amount of tracks when I want to listen (same with 'Prism').

This to me is the Gaga i fell in love with. Would have been a perfect follow up to "The Fame Monster". Mature without trying, amazing without being forced. Just her in her element. The album is so slick and cohesive, it is an experience! :heart:

 

Bravo. (I dont hate BTW, it's lovely as well).
