People have never been banned - and I can't remember a time in recent memory in which they've received deductions - for being a few minutes past the deadline! I apologise for being late but now seems to be the strangest time EVER to decide enough is enough and enforce penalties for lateness of a few minutes/hours when the most people are subject and when it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference!

I'm just saying that the rule applied in the past so why doesn't it apply now when it was human error on the voters' part? That's the issue I have. I'm not a deadline nazi, I'm just highlighting something that obviously needs to be addressed.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the results. Especially now that it's not as predictable. Does anybody want to re-do their predictas? :P

A 4% deduction. Fair enough - I meant to state last night, that a small deduction I think would be fair, but a full 33% for voting like 18 minutes late, I thought would be a tad harsh.

Cheers Martyn, sorry for making your job difficult

When I hosted BJSC, I got one set of votes 10 minutes late and I'd already compiled all the other votes and prepped my final voting thread ready for posting.

As it was, those final set of votes didn't alter the final scoreboard - just boosted the points for several tracks but not enough to overtake the track ahead. Because of this, I decided to accept the votes. Had it completely messed up the order of the final scoreboard I would've been harsh and disallow those votes. Or I may have just added them right at the end as the final set of votes to be announced thus not having to redo everything to fit them in. :D

I read it as 1% for each missing vote and that was just an example. So I'm confused now. What's happening? :P

You're right, but one would assume that Martyn's hypothetical example was realistic and that it was four finalists that voted after the deadline.

The way I understand it, had it been 10 that missed it then they'd lose 10%.

I never learn

I always seem to push deadlines to the last minute, and sometimes (I believe I was late for the final with Hits too) I'm late. I really should learn to listen earlier, and send earlier - then I can't be in these situations

Tom and I are currently trashing out something to prevent deadline confusion in the future and the issue of penalties for late voters.

We should be able to announce the outcome later tonight along with something a little more exciting.

It's times like this that I appreciate my good time management  I don't think I've ever even sent my votes on the last DAY before, let alone last hour/minute!

I have Velvet projected for about 150 points and 2nd/3rd place, which would be down to 144 points if that was the case. Not huge but obviously it can make the difference in a tight contest.

Yep that sounds like a reasonable solution to me. :)

Not that what I think matters :P

I listened to the songs like... last Monday, I think. But, I just put off voting thinking.. I'll listen to the good ones again later. And then I put it off. And put it off. And then I missed the deadline, cos' I thought it was 11pm.

But, if I hadn't have put it off, it wouldn't have mattered about the deadline :P

As IF Martyn's having the final clash with the X Factor!

There will be a break for an hour during the X Factor. Unless people rather I start at 9 rather than 7. Does anyone object to a break?
