Because they dismissed it at their playlist meetings. They aren't under obligation to play every single hit, particularly one that's getting brilliant airplay from pretty much everywhere else.

Strange though for such a massive hit, it may end up being in the top 5 sellers of the year, and will eventually hit a million I'm sure

To be fair, the song doesn't actually need their support. So it's not a big deal. They're better off supporting songs that other radio stations won't play imo.

And also, they probably didn't expect it to be this big. Maybe if they knew they would've decided to playlist it, but if they playlist it now it just looks stupid really. Playlisting a song over 2 months after it reached the top 3 is the sort of thing Heart FM would do (who ironically started playing Moves Like Jagger immediately after its release, which is very rare for them! :o).

I'd say it's better they don't playlist it, so the success is just even more astounding.
This isn't the first time they haven't playlisted a big hit and it won't be the last either. You can't blame them for not expecting it to be big because no one did really. I'm more annoyed that it got slagged off the other day because Chris Moyles had to play it. How unprofessional.

My feelings exactly, it's nasty and uncalled for.

Face it...Radio One is crap!

You pay your licence, for ego & idiots. End of story. Try asking them, why a song that has featured at #1 on iTunes for 3 complete weeks (though not together) isn't playlisted or try asking them, why Coldplay's "Paradise" is not allowed in the Official chart. They can't answer either question. I know, I've asked both.

They don't playlist Moves Like Jagger but they playlist Swagger Jagger. Just about somes them up.

I agree, Swagger Jagger is far better than Moves Like Jagger. Good to see another R1 supporter :D

Backing new British acts rather than established American ones?

I swear people use their personal preferences to bitch about R1. Sure, you might not like everything that their playlist but who gives a shit? I don't rant about Capital being outrageously fickle all the time just because I don't like some of the music they play.

The answer to your first question is that, as has been said many times already, Radio 1's playlist is not based on the charts and they are under no obligation to playlist successful songs.

And why would you ask the second question to Radio 1? They may host the chart but they're not the authority behind it. If you're going to ask anyone about that ask the OCC. We already know why it's not eligible to chart anyway.

I won't comment on the first half of your post.

they don't HAVE to play every hit, they obviously didn't think much of this and underestimated it's success, and they've simply stuck to their guns - you can criticise them for this, but its not like it needs their support anyway
I think either because it's Maroon 5 or it's because they just decided to play other tracks that probably should get some exposure as well. I dunno.
They play Cher Lloyd but not Alexandra Burke, they play Olly Murs but not Enrique Iglesias, they play JLS but not Maroon 5, they play Britney but not Christina Aguilera...they are fu**ing idiots.

Because understandably and probably rightfully so both Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera had become 'radio 2' artists and as such it was A-listed there, not many songs are playlisted on both. By the time it became a hit it was already a huge airplay hit, it's been easily the most exposed song on radio over the last 6 weeks, it doesn't need any more exposure.

I think they're completely right for not playlisting it, however their refusal to even acknowledge it is more than a bit pathetic.

They play Cher Lloyd but not Alexandra Burke, they play Olly Murs but not Enrique Iglesias, they play JLS but not Maroon 5, they play Britney but not Christina Aguilera...they are fu**ing idiots.

Thanks for proving my point.

They're 'fu**ing idiots' for not agreeing with you on a completely subjective matter? Well I never. :o

And they fundamentally do not play Britney, so nice job on that.

The thing is, people would moan if they did playlist it, because they'd be 'jumping on the bandwagon'...

THIS ENTIRELY
