Nope, I personally think she's a near-certainty for #1 today :(

I think Rihanna is probably the best option for no.1 so we don't have to deal with outrage if she doesn't make. Us Maroon 5 fans are used to the disappointment :(

We don't? There's nothing about Rihanna that doesn't scream sneaky to me these days.*

*Though I wouldn't feel this way if "MLJ" had already been #1 at any other point the past 5 weeks.

"Written In The Stars", "Fat Lip" ( ) and "Setting Sun" in the retros? My brain cannot cope with the awesomeness.

It's amazing how long MYFML has stayed on the charts even after it stopped being used on reality TV every other week - it still hasn't left the top 100 since it re-entered at #4. Of course the fact commercial radio have finally 'discovered' it (it even got a new peak on the radio airplay chart last year) will have helped its longevity massively but you'd still never have expected at the time that it'd STILL be in the chart now.

Just The Way You Are is the only other song that was in the top 100 that week that hasn't left since.

To be fair, this is the first week of the six where I think the song that could stop MLJ is actually a good song. Can't say that for the last 5.

typical the teen awards rubbish is on just when wee have an interesting chart....why do they jus reduce the chart show instead of talking about the teen awards afterwards in the mid evening shows

You know, I shall do the retros because a year ago was the first week I went on the Radio 1 website and looked at the chart. I'd heard the Chart Update with Tinie at #1 as well. The whole top ten this week is pretty great as well. I didn't actually know at the time that MYFML was a reentry, I hadn't looked carefully enough, and I hadn't heard of Adele before either.

Tinie and Labrinth both had brilliant songs there, and both were definitely in my songs of early October. This week has a huge amount of almost mysterious importance to me, because I wasn't paying attention then when reading the website and I didn't know every single song in the top 40. It's been a year. Can't believe that. I didn't start listening to the chart show proper until a few more weeks down the line, though.

Alright top 10. Scissor Sisters is still the best song in there, though.

Just the top 4 this week, really.

Don't particularly recognise anything from 96, although there's probably a few I've know but don't know properly.

They aren't - I have checked a fair few times!

They aren't - I have checked a fair few times!

I think C.W may be right this week's chart is the one for 15th Oct 2011 - the nearest week would be 16th Oct 2010 when Cee-Lo entered at No 1....... :D (just 2010 though the rest I think are right)

The week in question was, by my numbering, week 40 of 2010. Today's chart is week 41 of 2011 (by the same numbering system). So I'd agree, the retro seems to be a week early for some reason. Although I think the OCC 'officially' had 2010 as a 53 week year whereas I have it as a normal 52 week year which may be where the one week difference is coming from.

This would all be so much easier if the Earth would orbit the Sun a day and a quarter quicker so every day of the year would always be the same day of the week as it was the previous year

Maroon 5 will be #1 today, I really don't think it will be as close as everyone says, there will be nearly 10k between them I predict. I really can't see Rihanna doing it at all.

Retro faves then:

The 2010 has looked like a week early all year though (and I could have buggered up what week of the year it is on the numbering!)

I really want Rihanna to get a 6th Number 1, mainly because so many of her songs went to Number 2 & then after Madonna & Kylie she will have the most number 1's by a solo female singer.

That being said, I do want Christina to get a 5th Number 1, and then that would but her among the other 5 number 1 hit's, Beyonce, Britney, Rihanna

I'm more concerned about the fact that if We Found Love stalls at #2, that'll be three #2 hits in a year for Calvin Harris :drama: Has this ever happened before? I know Kylie had 3 #2s in a row once but I don't know if they were all in the same year.

(FTR I mean in a calendar year, not in a period of 52 weeks)

Yes Kylie's were between May- Nov 88, also Bros did this between Feb-Dec 88

And Boyzone in 1997 (mar-dec)

And Madonna in 2003 (Apr- Nov)
