Posted October 10, 201113 yr I just found out Jason Derulo's album 'Future History' is out today. Why? Shouldn't it have been out two weeks ago after 'It Girl' first charted? I thought the usual tradition was that albums would be released the week after the single but it's clearly not the case any more. I think 'Goodbye Lullaby' was released six weeks after 'What The Hell' charted, and 'Femme Fatale' was out a while after 'Hold It Against Me' was. Surely this is a bad move by labels as albums are supposed to take advantage of the success the single has?
October 10, 201113 yr 'What The Hell' was a bit of an on air/on sale if I can remember. Similar thing goes for 'Hold It Against Me' and 'Till The World Ends'. So I think they're fine. But I definitely don't understand 'Future History' taking a while to release here. Edited October 10, 201113 yr by FM11
October 10, 201113 yr i guess leaving the album a couple of weeks after the single would encourage more single sales and a higher chance of a top 5 hit as once the album comes out that is whats bought over the single on the whole
October 10, 201113 yr Author Christina Perri is another one. Jar Of Hearts entered the top ten about two months ago and only a few weeks ago did her album get released. It just all seems so random and messy.
October 10, 201113 yr Kylie's All the Lovers debuted on the week endinf 26/06 and Aphrodite debuted on the week ending 17/7 Lady Gaga is debatable with Judas and Born This Way (album), as Edge of Glory and Hair were only promo singles Edited October 10, 201113 yr by liamk97
October 10, 201113 yr Christina Perri is another one. Jar Of Hearts entered the top ten about two months ago and only a few weeks ago did her album get released. It just all seems so random and messy. Thats because Jar of Hearts was released well before it went top 10, and since then, she's been using 'Arms' as the latest single. JOH was just very delayed in getting big and she is the biggest one hit wonder since Sarah Barailles.
October 10, 201113 yr Also Florence & The Machine, Shake It Out came out a week ago but the album isn't out until the 31st :(
October 10, 201113 yr I have a feeling everyone's gonna call the new Florence album a "flop" when it makes number 1 on low sales and doesn't stick around for long
October 10, 201113 yr Author Also Florence & The Machine, Shake It Out came out a week ago but the album isn't out until the 31st That's stupid. Surely you'd want to capitalise (sp?) on the single being released, the video being played, the airplay and "buzz" while the single is still new and at it's peak. Why would you want to wait a few weeks when the single is dropping and interest wanes before releasing the album???
October 10, 201113 yr I have a feeling everyone's gonna call the new Florence album a "flop" when it makes number 1 on low sales and doesn't stick around for long I can't see it even getting to #1, it's up against Coldplay's second week and I don't think its first week sales will be strong enough to overhaul them based on how poorly SIO has done :( Hopefully they've just become a proper 'album act' and can sell albums regardless of the success of the singles but I'm not sure. I'll be relatively pleased if it can sell half of what 'Lungs' did but I have a feeling that may be a bit of a longshot. I'm worried that Mumford & Sons' second album will go the same way.
