I'm thinking Dot Rotten and Michael Kinawuka (3rd Critics Choice) will be the top 2 with Rotten edging it

I also think Frank Ocean is sixth.

But you can miss the top 5 and be big (Wretch 32, Nero) I remember being shocked Nero missed the top 5 last year

f*** OFF :( Oh well, Azealia doesn't need this list -_- :P

Definitely a Lianne La Havas/Michael Kiwanuka top 2 but I think they'll have it wrong this year and acts lower down the list will be bigger.

Its not based on hype its based on quality. Still, they can get it wrong. Little Boots in her year...

Excuse me Stuck On Repeat and Meddle were both amazing thank you very much. And Hands did not disappoint.

Did you see who she was up against? Undeserved IMO

The top 5 last year was all wrong anyway:

05 Clare Maguire - Album #6, Singles @ #23, #76 and #91

04 Jamie Woon - Album #15, Singles @ #67 and #76

03 The Vaccines - Album #4, Singles @ #32, #53, #84, #157 and #164

02 James Blake - Album #9, Singles @ #38 and #136

01 Jessie J - Album #2, Singles @ #1, #2, #8, #9, #16, #34 and #35

Of those 5, I'd only count Jessie J and The Vaccines as successful - James Blake was never going to be commercially successful, he was given the positioning based on hype. Besides Jessie and The Vaccines, only Nero and Wretch 32 had #1 albums and only Jessie, Nero and Wretch 32 had #1s.

For this reason alone, I think the Sound of 2012 top 5 will be all based on hype (obviously to an extent linked with talent) and Michael Kiwanuka and Dot Rotten have the biggest hype of the remaining artists - although StooShe are building up a fanbase already.

Well I love a lot of the artists from the 2009 list, really. But Boots beats them all for me and there are so many worse examples of winners over the years even if she did bomb.

But when you look at the point of the poll- to predict who will make the biggest impact as a new artists, it was wrong. La Roux was so much more successful, not to mention Florence and Lady Gaga...

Ooft. Very pleased with that! Hopefully he'll be the true successor of 2012. Michael Kiwanuka has this then I reckon. He's been getting amazing support from Radio 1 already so I struggle to believe it'll be Lianne La Havas or Dot Rotten. But I can't see much of this years sound list doing too well (I just want Frank to do the best of all of them) I think the true "sound of 2012" will come from people like Emeli, Lana Del Rey and others who enjoyed a hit or two towards the end of 2011.

IMO the material we'd heard by Little Boots (i.e. what the critics were voting on) meant she was fully deserving, it was all amazing music. They weren't to know that almost everything that would follow would be hugely disappointing and rubbish.

Ridiculously pleased with the top 3 so far! Frank Ocean was one of my favourite artists of 2011 and '212' one of my favourite songs...usually I haven't even heard of half of them in the list! I doubt I'll know anything from the #1 though, especially if it's this Michael Kiwanuka guy people are going on about. Maybe I should take a listen to some of his stuff.

THIS.

Out of the rest, I only heard stuff from A$AP Rocky and Friends. Doubt any of them will win though. 3 rappers in the Top 3?

Noticed '212' up to #36 on iTunes earlier this morning which is ace. :D Is there a radio edit for '212'? Radio 1 otherwise won't play the track this Sunday if it sells enough to make the top 40.

Zane Lowe played an edited version yesterday morning - after Azealia was announced to have come third. It wasn't the best, with the 'this **** gettin' eating' bit going on for quite a while - and all they did was blank it out. Hopefully a better radio edit will surface, now that it's climbing on iTunes.

Pleased to see Frank Ocean at second, just didn't expect it. For me, Dot Rotten and Michael Kiwanuka were the top 2 - it's a tough call now I reckon. Would love for Friends to come in and snatch it, or even StooShe.

Knew Frank Ocean would be in the Top 5 somewhere. He's got a lot of backing, and famous friends and since the summer people have been going on about him. Think he'll do very well this year.
Any guitar bands left in the running for #1? Would love to see the media tide turn back towards something less pop.
