For what reason is Mariah Carey's AIWFC doing so well this year? I seem to remeber it dwindling year on year in previous charts.

She's recorded a new version with Justin Bieber (which is absolutely dreadful - mostly because of Bieber's autotuned robotic vocals) but the video itself is more "big budget" than the original video. For me, it loses its charm because of it.

It's also used in TV/radio commercials and is without doubt one of the most popular Christmas singles of all time.

Collide peaked well too though and then dropped like a stone.

Leona can't make a career of covers. And Run isn't dark, Snow Patrol do melancholy but not dark.

It is dark in the broader sense, you are splitting hairs there :P

Cash's version is also a cover, it was originally by Nine Inch Nails.

I've learned a new chart fact today, I thought it was the other way round

I see..talk about a 'cash cow'...no offense to Mariah C fans ;)

It's because it's been REDUCED IN PRICE - not really 'cash cow'. (She's probably earning more from it this year anyway as the increased sales probably offset the reduced amount she gets per sale though).

I think Radio 1 have given up on Marry the Night, because I heard them play a song of hers called Black Jesus yesterday. :drama:

WHAT?!?! Why were they playing this  Was it the request show? Of all the songs on they album, they choose this

When iTunes discount the price, they still give the artists the same amount as they would at full price.

Ahh. I can't remember tbh. It was really, really late at night/early in the morning, and I wasn't "fully there" myself, if you know what I mean. It's really weird. It's mainly instrumental for starters, and I found it kind of scary, so I can see why it's not a single.

Do they? Oh. It's still not her being a cash cow though as it was probably iTunes'/her label's decision rather than hers. (However, the Bieber thing is cash-cow-ish, it's just that's not the reason it's doing so well).

I was just refering to the Bieber re-hash, surely it wasn't necessary.

I wasn't calling MC a cash cow (OK, I was sarcastically) It’s a marketing term for something that is guaranteed to rake in profits without fail e.g. AIWFC in its many forms!

Could this whole extra day of sales, and the performance on XFactor make this week more interesting for the top spot with Coldplay in the running, or is that just wishful thinking?

I love watching XFactor, but as soon as it starts impacting the charts, i hate it lol! :drama:

JLS/OneD collab hasnt done much for either of their two songs performed.. I thought they'd go a bit higher. Both done well already those songs anyway I guess.

Marry The Night video hasnt done much has it :o Its been going down rather then up!

Xmas songs are quite dominant in the top 40 now though with them all being 59p, they'll drop in a few weeks, maybe some 'older' songs will go back up? once they've gone?

It just seemed really breathless from 1D, JLS were decent enough.

Yeah i dont think it really worked tbh, may help their album sales though and other merchandise round xmas I guess, and ofcourse all sales are good sales for any artist.

 6. Hurt - Leona Lewis

Flo Rida back up to #11, he should knock Drake out of the top 10 any second.
