I didnt rant at all, just gave my opinion.of course people can download whatever version but the majority of people who watch xfactor probably dont even know who did the original...this is the reason why Rage got to no1 in 2009, people were sick to the death of the masses downloading an xfactor winners cover and the musical 'snobs' had their moment.

So what if the masses don't know the original? Does that make then stupid/bad people?

That doesn't take anything away from the original for the fans of it (well, it shouldn't).

882. A Case of You - James Blake

:cheer:

It's one of the best songs of 2011. Stunning!!!

All Saints hit #1 with their cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under The Bridge" and that's rarely considered superior to the original.

Well they did cut out the lyric that was the whole point of the original

Little Minx will probably go straight in at no1 when its released to itunes.

Mix

For some reason, Little Mix's "Cannonball" feels like a proper debut single rather than just the "Winner's Single". Maybe it's because I'm not used to seeing a Girl Group win X-Factor. :o And because "Cannonball" is much better well recieved than winners' singles of the past!
It's featured on perfume advert that was broadcast (not for the first time) during The X Factor final.

I just check on tellyadmusic to find out the advert it's in for your top 100 update, and it's for Dior - J'Adore :)

I cant see Charlie Brown climbing too much, because most people wont even know it was that song. lol As we can see Paradise was the big song that would ofcourse benefit the most being at the top, their current single and already #1  The album sales are going to be so high! Probably back to #2 behind Buble's xmas album, or may even go back to #1..
The original will forever be considered the original (and by music snobs) superior. COvers are just covers - they don't pretend to be original, they are just a version of another song. There really are worse things in this world to have hang ups over then someone covering a song.

If people prefer/like a cover, then that is down to their own taste and not anything to rant over

It depends on who is covering it really. People loved Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana covered David Bowie's Man Who Sold the World, Jeff Buckley covered Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah all to no uproar at all. Pop artists cover pop artists with no uproar. Its the cross genre aspect that loses it. Indie becomes pop and seems sanitised. Pop becomes indie and seems like a joke (see Arctic Monkey's doing Love Machine on Live Lounge V1)

Thanks :kink: It'll need to still be top 100 for 8pm tomorrow for that information to be necessary though, as it wasn't top 100 at 8:15pm today (I forgot to take the screenshot at 8 today).

I'll type up today's update and post it now. I wasn't going to bother as I thought the #1 would be way out of date but as it seems Little Mix haven't released yet...

Indie doing pop is actually good fun sometimes, it shows to a minority of music snobs that the original is actually a good song. Kind of the reverse effect to a pop cover of an indie classic giving the original new mass exposure.

Aha! A sensible answer. You make fair points about cross genre covers - that is where the 'anger' seems to lie with fans of the originals.

Still, nothing to get worked up about imo. The original often benefits though (Cannonball will) or the best known version (Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah) so it isn't all bad.

Exactly, Biffy got a third top 10 out of the X Factor last year. I'm not complaining as long as I don't have to listen to the cover or people talking about it.

Does anyone not think Minx sounds FAR better  Maybe im thinking of that Jade one when im typing the name :D

If they have to wait till October to release an original single it will all end in tears

Not quite bad or stupid but just intervening in the space where people who actually know about music and love it are used to hearing music. its a bit like being in HMV during december when its full of idiots buying westlife and susan boyles greatest hits and never set foot in the shop the other 11 months of the year! :D

So? If that's how they choose to live their lives then that hardly makes them idiots.

Can't believe iTunes haven't put the Little Mix single up yet, maybe they're waiting for midnight. It's up on Play and Amazon for those who are interested.
