It is pretty dreadful. Is there any particular reason why sales are so low or is it just one of those freak things?

It usually happens at this time of the year, sales takes a dip. I remember Katie Melua getting a week at #1 with a charity track at this time of the year, and I can't even remember the title of the track, it must have been forgettable.

Forgettable version maybe, but it was 'What A Wonderful World' :P

Its funny as the album sales are increasing that singles are decreasing. I guess you can't stick a download in someone's Christmas stocking eh. Take the point re no big releases too.

Could anyone tell me how much 'Down For Whatever' has sold so far?

Thanks!

Seriously we don't have any other sales info, all the relevant sales info has been posted.

That's it in a nutshell (from the Brazil nut at the bottom of the Christmas stocking). Even before downloads albums made better Christmas presents than albums. Downloads have just exacerbated that.

Midweek Charts update: Sheeran album hits half million

Source: MW

13:57 | Thursday December 8, 2011

By Paul Williams

Ed Sheeran’s debut album + has this week surpassed half a million sales in the UK as it firmly establishes itself as one of the Christmas market’s biggest sellers.

The Asylum/Atlantic album moved over the 500,000 mark during trading on Tuesday, while sales are up 31% on the week to make it the seventh top-selling artist album of the week so far, according to the Official Charts Company.

Parlophone act Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto has also this week surpassed half a million sales, having sold another 37,000 units this week up to the end of business on Wednesday. Sales of the album are up 31% on the week, although it has dipped 8-9 on the midweek chart listings.

Island’s posthumous Amy Winehouse album Lioness – Hidden Treasures comfortably remains the week’s top-selling artist album, while Reprise/Warner Bros act Michael Buble’s Christmas is currently around 10,000 sales ahead of Rebecca Ferguson’s newly-issued debut Epic album Heaven to take second spot. Buble’s album sold its 500,000th copy in the UK last Sunday.

There is a close battle raging in the singles market with Syco’s X Factor Finalists 2011 single Wishing On A Star fewer than 1,000 sales ahead of Epic act and 2009 X Factor runner-up Olly Murs’ Dance With Me Tonight up to the close of business on Wednesday.

Beyonce only #27 even with a big promo show on Sunday? That's a bit dissapointing. Don't think '4' will ever be back in the top twenty, never mind top ten.

Wonder if someone like the official chart twitter will help us out with the gap between Olly and x Factor at some point today? Wonder how many Lloyd has sold as well? Between those 3 IMO.

The top 2 albums are pretty much set in stone but Olly could take over Rebecca.

HTF can they *still* be #1 - they're just 11th on iTunes! :(

That's what I thought, but we have been saying this every week for the current #1 to fall, it probably drop from the top by the end of the week. Maybe tomorrow, or even Saturday, physical sales must be holding the track up, by 1k at least.

And if they were say 4th/5th on iT & not far off, that would be fair enough - but the iT #1 is now selling 5 copies for every 2 that XFF sells... :o

Yeah the X Factor single will be a stocking filler for some of the less discerning shoppers. There's now way Olly was gonna do 1600 yesterday after only catching up 200 the day before.
The wise money would be on Olly being no.1! It's reminscent of the Flo vs RiRi battle a few weeks ago. When she went past 1D her lead was too huge for Flo even if he was closing. Flo had more chance then Lloyd and T-Pain, as him and RiRi were selling larger amounts.

The no,1 this week will barely clearly 50k.....DREADFUL!

Don't worry - next week it might be 10 times that... ;)

Wrong thread, but anyhow...

Hmmm I wonder with the XF final and promo there whether XF can sneak a 2nd week

Would've thought they would've dropped by now
