Well the Military Wives have been falling ever since they got to #1 straight away :) Hopefully on Tuesday they'll start to go into a dramatic fall!

It's so strange how Alex Day can chart so high and nobody on here knows him (well, I remember one person mentioning him yesterday I think). Goes to show how out of touch the membership of Buzzjack (and I include myself in this) are with music, and life in general. Not that we didn't know this already, of course.

Well he was 4th favourite for Christmas Number One as far back as 8th December

Do we count the Military Wives as a "girl group"? If so, the second straight girl group #1 after Little Mix. Though I'm wondering whether Girls Aloud will ever get a #1 single again.

All-female group maybe but I wouldn't call them a 'girl group' or 'girlband'. That's a term generally used for generic pop groups with all female members.

wonder if till the world ends will go back in the chart this time next year

I doubt Girls Aloud will ever get another #1. I don't know why really. It just seems most of the artists that were popular when they were don't do very well in the charts anymore, so I think it'll be the same for them.

They would've fitted well into the charts of today with a lot of their older material though, like Call the Shots or Something Kinda Oooh. They sound like the stuff that Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown, Usher, Snoop Dogg, etc. have released this year.

And 2012 by Jay Sean/Nicki Minaj aswell. It'd be funny if they did. I think they'd probably re-enter the top 1000 maybe, but nothing too extreme.

34. Hurt - Leona Lewis :o

Hadn't realised how much this had fallen! Could go from like #6 or #7 to outside the top 40 next week.

Not looking too bad for her.

I was just wondering why you should download a 2:12 min song when you can listen to a 1:30 preview for free - but for the short UK edit the preview is limited to 30 seconds <_<

Still i don't understand the extreme shortness of UK edits

Yes, but Girls Aloud are national treasures, if they released something good again, they would go straight to #1. Plus, Cheryl is popular as a solo artist aswell, so its not as if the girls fans aren't still buying their music.

For those wondering about the Alex Day song, it is a sort of campaign for Christmas #1. Not to overthrow X Factor or anything, its just a personal challenge as part of the 'Project For Awesome' campaign.

It's also technically a charity single - I think all proceeds are going towards World Vision.

The reason its "taking off" worldwide is because he generally has a huge viewing base on youtube and has been gearing up to to this week for a month or two. I don't know if you know much about youtube as a community, but you might have heard of 'charlieissocoollike'. Hes one of the power vloggers on the site and has over a million subscribers. Alex and him are best friends and live together, they used to be in a band etc. Alex's account on youtube is 'nerimon'. So essentially even though the campaign is for the UK charts, all his other viewers from other countries are buying the song anyway.

It's interesting actually because Alex has made an entry in the charts before - I doubt any of you remember but on the week of the 9th November 2009 the song "I've Got Nothing" was released by the artist 'Chartjackers'. That was also a campaign for #1, and they peaked at #36 that week which isnt laughable. More info in the wikipedia page ( wikipedia.org/wiki/Chartjackers ). BBC made a series about it.

Also, this is the video Alex released today on 'Forever Day' (the day his fans buy the song), which might make sense of it.

He could have 6+ versions in the top 40 later at this rate :o

189. Smells Like Teen Spirit (Live) - Nirvana

I remember that but I didn't know Alex Day was part of it.

Didn't that go top 10 or near on iTunes?

Thanks for the information. :)

I bet he didn't expect it to be doing this well! :o And it's mad that it's taking off worldwide (although it does make sense, because all countries use Youtube ).

I don't thnk Cheryl has that many fans. Her album didn't sell much, and her latest single (The Flood) did poorly. The good sales of Promise This, 3 Words, etc. were mainly just because people liked the songs, rather than because they were Cheryl fans.

And remember back to how 50 Cent and Britney Spears used to be back then, and look how they are now... I just think it's unlikely Girls Aloud will get another #1. When/if they release another single, I wouldn't be too surprised if Capital, Radio 1, etc. didn't bother playing it much.

Yeh, Cheryl had a massive number one just a year ago so its not like the fanbase has disappeared yet. If GA release any new material next year, I would be very surprised if it didnt go #1.

I remember that but I didn't know Alex Day was part of it.

I think so yeh, on the day of release. The #36 was the official position on the Sunday, I remember them saying it sold about 8,000 copies in the UK.

I just listened to 'Forever Yours' - I was expecting it to be a ballad based on the title. Pleasant surprise. It's a pretty good song. I'd certainly prefer Coldplay (or Nirvana) to be in the Christmas top 3 than it though :P

if i could pick the christmas top 2 it would be:

1. Lemonade mouth - Breakthrough

2. Bring It - Jodie Connor

Maybe wrong thread but was this song *really* an Xmas hit in 2004 (maybe vidcapper will know?)

34. Hurt - Leona Lewis :o

Leona now down to 35, she may just get one week Top 40. I wonder why there is no video.

The Military wives may get the biggest selling first week sales of the year. They are sure to sell plenty of physical copies.

I wonder why Jessie J did not do Domino or Who You Are on Strictly, I am sure her vocals have improved since X-factor.

I wouldnt necessarily call it a "hit" but I definately remember this being played on the music channels quite a bit a few years ago.
