The Alex Day song is actually pretty good, very 'The Feeling' in sound, his voice sounds similar too. Looks like he'll be an Ed Sheeran style breakout in 2012 once he inevitably gets properly signed, except Ed's only unsigned chart success was the top 50 placing (and iTunes #2) for his No 5 Collaborations EP. Not that they're that similar, Ed built up a fanbase through constant gigging whilst it looks as if Alex is something of a worldwide Youtube sensation - that we've all managed to avoid ever hearing of before  I wonder how much more legs Forever Yours has got, so far it's the same 20,000 or so fans downloading multiple versions of the same song but if radio and TV start supporting it then it could hang around. It's more likely to plummet quickly though...

It's strange though, he has 37,000 likes on Facebook and the song looks like it could shift up to 100k first week - I've never heard about him in the media before so it's pretty much the most unexpected hit I've seen for many years.

317. Love You So - Delilah

I remember listening to the Alex Day song when it was released on iTunes, safe to say I wasn't ever expecting to see NINE versions in the Top 100 :o

There seems to be a glitch in Kworb where when a song enters the top 100 for the first time it shows up as dark red (TOWIE, second version of Nirvana and several Alex Day entries are doing this in the current update).

Needless to say Alex is #2 combined, 65.5% compared to 51.4% for Little Mix. Coldplay on 41.6%, they seem to have slightly stalled their gain on Little Mix for now but I still think they should have overtaken by this time next week.

4. Forever Yours - Alex Day

when I turned on Itunes and saw this it was a total  moment! having listened to the song, its not bad, very dated in sound but still quite good

looks like we may get a top 2 consisting totally of non X Factor and non campaigns! this should be what the Christmas chart is all about, its not like you'd see all these other charity songs here at another time of the year :D

as much as I love the song, I hope Nirvana don't make the top 5 as it may finally put a stop to these FB campaigns

although I must say I could live without Stacey Solomon and The Essex cast in the top 40 :drama:

In what way is Smells Like Teen Spirit 'depressing'?

It may be depressing for him/her in the same way you call "Chasing Cars" depressing

Thank God Nirvana aren't nearing the top 5 (at the moment!) terrible song. Never got the fuss with it and I never will. Just sounds like depressing noise to me.

Looking at that Amazon chart there are 6 versions of Teen Spirit in the Top 14. They must all be selling in decent enough numbers on Amazon to do that (compared to the other songs selling on Amazon) so are going to do quite well when combined.

OK its not doing so well on ITunes but maybe those buying it prefer Amazon...

4. Forever Yours - Alex Day

22. Forever Yours (live Piano Version) - Alex Day

33. Forever Yours (vocal Remix) - Alex Day

42. Forever Yours (demo Version) - Alex Day

46. Forever Yours (Blue Version) - Alex Day

61. Forever Yours [Lastufka Remix] - Alex Day

76. Forever Yours (instrumental) - Alex Day

84. Forever Yours (BillTV-Mickeleh Remix) - Alex Day

87. Forever Yours (Tom Milsom Remix) - Alex Day

You must have searched for something, check if the search box is empty or not. I can't think of anything else tbh.

Search box is empty!

He needed to put on iTunes 100 versions of his song just to see the 10% of iTunes top-1000 being his.

Now he has 9% of iTunes top-100 which is massive too.

Don't forget the other retailers make a much bigger impact on the official chart than normal, this time of year, with all the campaigns and very different buying patterns and so on. Top 15 movers and shakers on Amazon right now are:

1. Military Wives - Wherever You Are

2. Stacey Solomon - Driving Home for Christmas

3. Stacey Solomon - Driving Home for Christmas (Alternative Version)

4. Jamie Hartman - Happy New Year

5. Alex Day - Forever Yours (Vocal Remix)

6. The Cast of The Only Way is Essex - Last Christmas

7. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

8. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Boombox Rehearsals)

9. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

10. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Album Version)

11. Alex Day - Forever Yours

12. The Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong (2009 Remastered)

13. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

14. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

15. Kelly Clarkson - Because of You

Out of pure interest whereabouts are Little Mix 'Cannonball' and Coldplay 'Paradise'?

I thought the Alex Day single was also a campaign one - there's no way so many versions of it would be charting so high otherwise!

They are 2 and 4 on the main Amazon chart - not showing in Movers and Shakers because they already had a chart presence there yesterday.

it must've been very low key, I'd never heard of it until now! I don't think anyone actually expected it to go this high though

I suppose. I just don't see how such a loud and energetic song can be depressing.

lol. It doesn't make Katy Perry's remixes look bad anymore.

It's so strange how Alex Day can chart so high and nobody on here knows him (well, I remember one person mentioning him yesterday I think). Goes to show how out of touch the membership of Buzzjack (and I include myself in this) are with music, and life in general. Not that we didn't know this already, of course.

Odd when I go to Amazon Uk and go to "Bestsellers in Mp3 songs" I see

1) Military Wives Choir

2) Little Mix

3) Olly Murs

4) Coldplay

5) Nirvana

6) Mariah Carey

7) Rihanna

8) Flo-Rida

9) Lloyd

10) Maroon 5

with another version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at 17 and Alex Day at 18.

He is usually in the shadow of his roomate, Charlie McDonnal (Charlieissocoollike) - the number one subscribed on You Tube, in the UK.

They have a close relationship and have similar fans, so Charlie is probably helping him too.

Do we count the Military Wives as a "girl group"? If so, the second straight girl group #1 after Little Mix. Though I'm wondering whether Girls Aloud will ever get a #1 single again.
