Regarding ABBA's 'Happy New Year' - it never, ever does as well in the UK iTunes Chart, as it does elsewhere.

Here is how it was doing earlier today, in various European iTunes Charts:, (Courtesy of Benny at UKMIX).

"Happy New Year" is now at number one on iTunes in Sweden and Norway, top 10 in the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Estonia and Denmark,

top 20 in Finland, Latvia and Lithuania and top 60 in Hungary, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria and Germany."

ABBA were going to release it as a Single, in December 1980, but changed their minds. That was a pity, as they'd have ended up with

2 simultaneous Top 10 Hits, in the UK & Irish Charts - as well as in Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Norway, etc. (With the

'Super Trouper' Single). I think it would do a lot better in the January UK iTunes Charts, had it been a Single, in 1980. Many people in

the UK are not aware that the Song exists.

It actually reaches the Singles Chart Top 10, (via Downloads), in some European Countries - some Year's, anyhow.

Sweden - No.4 in 2008, No.5 in 2009, & No.9 in 2010. Norway - No.5 in 2009. And, last January, it jumped from

No.47 to No.8, in The Netherlands - their 24th Top 10 Hit there. (It is currently No.70 in The Netherlands Top 100).

No major shock that Gotye is stalling so far, its not been promoted at all on either radio or TV. Hopefully that will change in the coming weeks.

Surprised that Taio isn't climbing faster but then I guess its gonna be a long bank holiday weekend and I remember from past years that anything released this week usually takes a while to get going. Just Dance by Gaga took several days to get going when it was released over new years.

The few people waiting for Gotye will have probably already downloaded it during today, it will only fall now unless radio/TV jump on board quickly.

Do we reckon Alesha's gonna get another top 75 hit to her name :o

I suspect it'll do similar to Little Boots' Shake (also a buzz single). It's go to about #94 and once the few people who care about it have bought it, it'll swiftly vanish.

But it is being used in an ad campaign, so I don't think it will vanish.

That's what would have happened then, if it wasn't on an ad campaign. Adverts aren't a guarantee for success though, The Feeling's Rosé has been given a special revamp for the Burberry ad, and that did nothing! I suspect this'll do similar to Heavy Cross though.

^ You've forgotten they already gained a #1 from this era, so a little different from Leona's situation. After the performance on Alan Carr last night, it'll likely shoot up into the top 15, hopefully missing the top 10 all together - the lyrics are appalling, their worst release yet in my opinion (even worse than 'The Club is Alive').

I didn't forget - that's why I said "proper" lead single or something to that effect. :P

The Wanted 'Warzone' down to #20 now - they've just climbed to #21 officially, so unless its iTunes position picks up during the week, it looks likely to stall at #21 (for the time being at least). Doesn't help that JLS have released the single for [DYFWIF] - hopefully the likes of Olly Murs + One Direction keep it from getting near the top 10 though, it's awful.

Wish Michael Kiwanuka, Taio Cruz and Gotye would all jump into the top 40 already, all three songs are so different and all such good ways to kick off 2012!

Jls is already 11 combined... for people who thought this would flop ( I wish).

#12 once you combine Lloyd

yap... but again, not a flop anyway.

Troublemaker represents everything that was so wrong about the start of 2011 imo. But it's just too catchy. :(

I am glad for once to see JLS do well. I actually like DYFWIF

That Goyte single sounds to me like it was a reject from the Hurts' album
