December 26, 201113 yr Thoroughly enjoying the chart so far but I've worked out your top 5 (and a very strong top 5 it is too!). I won't comment until you've finished as I don't wanna ruin it. Oh BTW would you mind updating your #1s thread at some point when you get the chance? Edited December 26, 201113 yr by simonf
December 26, 201113 yr Author 5. Eric Amarillo - Om Sanningen Ska Fram (48-13-8-5-1-1-1-2-3-2-4-3-6-10-16-27) M1C7Hf0gEkU&ob Onto my highest placed BJSC entry for the year, and comfortably one of my favourite songs that I've ever sent to to the contest - Swedish 40-something dance music producer Eric Amarillo launched club anthem Om Sanningen Ska Fram onto his public in May 2011 and it wormed its way into the public consciousness enough for it to become the biggest domestic hit of the year, clocking up six weeks at #1. It's not exactly hard to see why - a frantic dance anthem with chorus lyrics translating to 'Do you wanna sleep with me then, If the truth to be told', Sweden's equivalent to clubbing chavs would have absolutely lapped it up and I'm still shocked that it hasn't been given a UK translation. It's surely the most ready marketable but as yet unused gimmick to launch a dance song with that there is, and it has a sensational melody and energy to it as well! The fact that it's a dance song delivered in Swedish by a middle aged male (i.e. going against the grain of EVERYTHING that typically does well in BJSC) seemed to do it little harm in the contest where it finished in a respectable 6th place. AATW - get a UK release of this commissioned post-haste, it WILL give you your next UK #1 hit - even if you do have to translate it first!

December 26, 201113 yr Great to see Kelly in the top thirty! Also some Scandinavian and German songs! 'Om Sanningen Ska Fram' :w00t: Adele's album is amazing! Deserved number one!
December 26, 201113 yr Hoping 'On The Floor' or 'We Found Love' is #01 for you, superb countdown so far Rich! :D
December 26, 201113 yr Author 4. Rihanna feat Calvin Harris - We Found Love (21-4-3-4-7-5-2-3-5-1-1-1-4-6) tg00YEETFzg&ob=av2e Launching her Talk That Talk era, Rihanna, who is probably the biggest star in the world right now, teamed up with Scottish dance producer and hitmaker Calvin Harris for We Found Love. I did indeed love it on first listen (that #21 debut was after one half assed listen ), Rihanna's crisp but distinctive vocals above a building Calvin Harris beat, typical of his 'sound' but already sounding like his best ever work right from the word go. A repetitive but infectious 'We found love in a hopeless place' refrain precedes a siren build up and then it's an all out euphoric joy of an instrumental, which defines why Calvin Harris deserves his co-credit on this song. That melody IS his vocal, it's astounding. Never did I realise it more though than when Rihanna took to the X Factor stage to perform it. Seeing the energy in her performance and the fun on stage really made me sit up and think 'WOW, this song needs to top my chart now' and ever since that moment, I've been more addicted than ever - it's currently sitting in 54th place in my all time favourite songs list, and it's barely been out for three months! Every time I think Rihanna's released a career best single, she seems to better it. For now What's My Name remains my favourite but this is running it bloody close. Every one of its six weeks at number 1 in the UK were fully deserved.
December 26, 201113 yr I honestly forgot about We Found Love!  Pleased to see it really high up, it's not as good for me, but it's certainly up there as one of the tunes of the year. I think I can guess at the order of the top 3 now, if I've got them right...
December 26, 201113 yr Om Sanningen Ska Fram  As I said when I commented on Sheelah, it's one of my 3 faves from FSR Rontvia in 2011 along with Ria and SHeelah (the former I'm probably alone in placing there )! Also really like We Found Love, although it is horifically overrated. I think I have the 3 remaining tracks, but I'm not sure which order 2 and 3 will be in (surely number 1 is a foregone concusion :P)...
December 26, 201113 yr Author 3. Jennifer Lopez feat Pitbull - On The Floor (11-16-30-OUT-42-9-6-4-1-1-1-2-2-3-4-6-9-14-20-32) t4H_Zoh7G5A RedOne strikes again! After providing so many artists with career best singles it was time to give one to ailing star Jennifer Lopez. Having not had a top ten hit in the UK since the mid 00s, it's fair to say that nobody ever expected her to have a notable hit single again. The Love? project had numerous delays and was starting to seem laughable but then something clicked for J.Lo. She signed up to American Idol and the US public started to love her again. And then RedOne gave her On The Floor, sampling Lambada by Kaoma, a top five hit in the UK in the late 1980s, it had a stunning 'club banger' production over it and as I've said ever since, I don't even see why other people still release club bangers. On The Floor absolutely perfected the genre, why try harder? You know a song must be amazing when even renowned musical monstrosity Pitbull can't ruin it. In fact I'd much rather listen to the Pitbull version that the J.Lo solo version, his ridiculous raps about Donkey Kong and Tonka trucks make the whole thing even more amazing. J.Lo seemed rejuvinated, make no mistake - this song wasn't a worldwide hit because of her appearance on American Idol, this was a hit because it's a bloody incredible pop song, combining all of the things that J.Lo was great at when she was at her peak with the contemporary sounds of 2011. A global smash, somebody whose career was a laughing stock in the UK this time last year, On The Floor is nearing 800,000 sales and is by far the biggest hit of her career. The fact that it managed to spend three weeks at #1 in my chart bang in the middle of the Eurovision build up really says it all about how much I love this song, it takes something huge to divert my attention from that during March-May and this song duly slots into my all time favourite songs ever list at #31! Is there anything more unlikely than a past it 40-something woman having an 800k selling single in the UK a decade after her career has peaked? Why yes there is...

I think I can guess at the order of the top 3 now, if I've got them right... Oh dear! To be fair, until a month ago it was only looking like finishing at about #15 in my EOY chart, I've LOVED it for the past few weeks! Om Sanningen Ska Fram  As I said when I commented on Sheelah, it's one of my 3 faves from FSR Rontvia in 2011 along with Ria and SHeelah (the former I'm probably alone in placing there )! So glad you that my two favourite BJSC entries of the year are amongst your top three of my entries! I think Ghosty also said that Ria was one of his faves but that was about it! I don't see why everyone dislikes it personally, the strings are sublime!
December 26, 201113 yr Author For all of the talk of foregone conclusions, my #1 and #2 filtered in respectively to my all time favourite songs ever list at #23 and #28, not exactly a million miles away from each other, and with J.Lo at #31 you can see how close my EOY top three was this year, probably the closest I've ever had :o
December 26, 201113 yr Oh dear! To be fair, until a month ago it was only looking like finishing at about #15 in my EOY chart, I've LOVED it for the past few weeks! I still rather like it. It's gonna finish high for me, I'm not going to say how high (:kink:) but it probably won't be as high as that. I expected On The Floor to be your #2! :o Well, I think I have a good idea now. Oh, as far as Rontvian entries go for me, the entries you submit to the odd-numbered contests always appeal to me more than the even-numbered ones. My favourite entries of yours this decade (I haven't checked all the earlier ones) are Sheelah, Brittany McDonald, Chart Music, Katie Cole and Elsiane. Funny how that worked out. Eric Amarillo's probably the best of the even-numbered ones for me though.
December 26, 201113 yr I like pretty much everything so far :D Some comments: 57. Anna Abreu - Hysteria (#3) My fave single from her actually, Rush is brilliant too!Liam clearly hasn't heard 'Music Everywhere' :drink: Here's what I like from your albums. (I'll wait to comment on the singles!) 1. Adele – 21 2. Lady Gaga - Born This Way 3. Ed Sheeran - + 4. Noah & The Whale - Last Night On Earth 5. Britney Spears - Femme Fatale Ooh. Pleasantly surprised to see this top 5 for you! :o It's a fantastic album though. 'How I Roll' is a moment! 7. Steps – The Ultimate Collection 9. Jennifer Lopez - Love? 10. Ed Sheeran - Loose Change 11. Rihanna – Loud Ugh. This or 'What's My Name?' will not feature in my EOY countdown as I don't like having to feature songs from previous years in the more recent EOY charts. WMN will always be a 2010 song to me. 12. Rihanna – Talk That Talk 14. Will Young – Echoes 15. The Saturdays – On Your Radar 19. Nicola Roberts - Cinderella's Eyes 20. Kelly Clarkson – Stronger Incredible album. Shame to see it "just" #20 in your chart though. But at least it's not lower :P 22. Jessie J - Who You Are 23. David Guetta – Nothing But The Beat 26. Cascada - Original Me So low. But deserved. I've really gone off them now. Nothing excites me anymore! :( 28. Same Difference – The Rest Is History 29. Natasha Bedingfield - Strip Me 30. Misty Miller - Misty Miller Nice to see this feature. And above mainstream successes, '4', 'Killer Love' & 'Cannibal'! 31. Beyonce – 4 32. Nicole Scherzinger – Killer Love 35. Ke$ha – Cannibal Very good so far! :D

Femme Fatale is indeed amazing  I thought about not including Loud but decided that I loved it for far too much of this year to exclude it. I did however wipe out What's My Name, White Light Moment and The Flood from my EOY top 100 singles because they'd all been top ten last year. They had enough of a hangover to make it this year but only for a month or two into this year so it was pointless. Loud is literally the only thing that carried over  I know what you mean about Cascada, it made it to #26 on the strength of the (excellent) Greatest Hits bonus disc tbh! Misty's album is lovely, so glad you introduced us all to her  Hysteria really is EVEN BETTER than Music Everywhere :o Absolutely not :o
December 26, 201113 yr I am aware that I'm the sole person who holds those views on Anna (I prefer Rush to Just A Pretty Face too :o) but this seems to be a recurring theme with me commenting on this chart :P
December 26, 201113 yr I can't help but also mention that Anna Abreu is an abomination to music everywhere (what a f***ing great pun :D ). Disgusting bitch.
December 26, 201113 yr Author 2. Ed Sheeran - The A Team (67-40-29-28-23-19-8-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-7-7-12-17-16-20-31) UAWcs5H-qgQ I'd been waiting all year for it and Ed Sheeran finally announced his major label debut part way through 2011 after a successful No 5 Collaborations EP in January. He picked The A Team as his debut single - not a decision I was wild over initially, at the time I preferred the remix of it on that EP called Little Lady. However the song charted lowly for me and slowly picked up pace - by the time it had leapt to #8 I loved it and then from that point onwards the obsession began. Ed changed from an artist that I had a keen interest in to one that I was looning over. The A Team, despite its subject matter, debuted at #3 in the UK and went on to spend over three months in the top ten, including one of those months at #3. It sold over three quarters of a million copies and has already arguably become a modern classic. A song that to me had been a hard hitting acoustic song had somehow worked its way into the public consciousness, Heart were hammering it and teenage girls were fawning over him. All because of this song? How did that happen then, have they not understood the lyrics? Either way, I found the song hard to let go and it got my longest run at #1 of the year, spending seven weeks at the top before easing out relatively swiftly for a song of that stature. My favourite artist of the year by quite some stretch, Ed didn't quite have the legs to top either of my end of year charts but this will go on to become one of my all time favourite songs and I absolutely can't wait to see what he does on next! My ginger idol  ------------------------------------------- 1. Maroon 5 feat Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger (64-52-50-62-OUT-60-14-3-3-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-6-8-8-9-12-15-17-17-26) iEPTlhBmwRg&ob So to answer my earlier question. What could be more unlikely than a J.Lo career revival? How about a soft rock/pop band that peaked in 2004 and a washed up old favourite of mine whose star faded some years ago collaborating on a song that has absolutely no relevance to the music industry of 2011 and selling a million copies of it in the UK? Yes, that did seem rather unlikely but it happened. Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine teamed up with the icon Christina Aguilera after the pair appeared together as judges on US reality show The Voice. They performed a new recording on there one week called Moves Like Jagger and it went into the US top ten. Once airplay kicked in and a video had been made it became a little bit bigger than that and spread worldwide quickly. I'd heard it on the week it went top ten in the US and liked it but wasn't exactly wowed, hence its initial chart run for me. Once it started to get promotion in the UK I began to think 'wow, actually this is rather amazing' and it quickly leapt back up to my chart before securing a month's residency at #1. It only left my chart last week after a long and slow (by my chart standards) spiral down from the top. An infectious whistling introduction leading into Adam Levine's distinctive vocals, this is far more of a Maroon 5 song than a Christina one, she doesn't appear until towards the end, to give a world class cameo and some amazing ad-libs. Her minor feature did however give her a 5th #1 in my chart, her first since 2003 (pre Delta she was by far my favourite solo artist) and her first ever EOY #1! Essentially everything about this song sounds like 2004 - it might as well have been lifted off Songs About Jane, it's the last time that both acts were simultaneously relevant and production wise it's dated as hell. So why on earth is it so very good? I have no answer to that but it's already racing up my all time favourite songs ever list and it's probably sold its millionth copy in the UK sometime in the last 24 hours. Kids are singing it everywhere and it's one of the defining songs of the year. Kids. In 2011. Singing Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera songs. How did this happen? And why is it my EOY #1 when I couldn't give a toss about Maroon 5 and have always been completely indifferent to them? What the hell is everybody's obsession with Mick Jagger recently? Too many questions which I have no answer to and don't understand. Let's not discuss the seven weeks at #2 behind a run of non #1's, I'm still bitter. But Wham! had better watch their backs - Moves Like Jagger is coming for your crown of the most essential non UK #1 of all time! Happy new year, I hope you enjoyed the countdown. See you in a year's time where Dannii Minogue's 700k selling comeback single will be battling Ashanti feat Ricky Martin's new million selling slow jam. Would you bet against it?
