Posted December 30, 201113 yr I didn't know where to post this, but I haven't seen a topic anywhere, so I thought I would make one here. Some of the big success stories over the last 12 months include Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks and Emeli Sande to name a few, but who are you tipping to be big in the next 12 months? 2012 is just a day away, so I would like to see who you think could breakthrough to have some chart success. Although we are yet to hear solo music from this girl, Etta Bond, who features on Wretch 32's 'Forgiveness' I hope and think should have some success with producers like Labrinth already behind her. She has a brilliant voice and here is an acoustic video of her mashing up Ed Sheeran and The Arctic Monkeys. XWl-2ztq4Xw&feature=relmfu Get posting your suggestions on who you think will make an impact this coming year. And finally, happy new year to you all. Edited December 30, 201113 yr by Davidson
December 30, 201113 yr Etta Bond is amazing! Apparently she's the 2nd ever non-talent show artist to be signed to Syco!! :o I honestly have no clue who might be popular next year though. There's a lot of people I think are "close" to making it, or artists who are popular in the US and are surely bound to get a chart hit in the UK one day, but I always think "It must happen", then it doesn't.

December 30, 201113 yr She can't be the second ever, as before Pop Idol and The X Factor, Syco had other acts - Il Divo and Westlife mainly. On the actual new acts front - I don't think there will be as many as last year, but then again, this time last year, I didn't think there'd be any new successful acts (well, apart from Jessie J, who I hoped would flop :kink:). December 30, 201113 yr The most obvious one I can think of is Lana Del Rey. I'm also going to say Gotye although he might go down the same route as Owl City in 2010. One massive UK hit then all follow up singles not really taking off anywhere near as much. Azealia Banks and Charli XCX would be ace to see these two getting some decent success in 2012 too.

Definitely, he might get a 'side effect' top ten album but it won't spawn a second hit - I say this having heard it! Competent enough but no other singles on there.
December 30, 201113 yr It'll be Skrillex's year. Then dubstep will be dead I assume... Edited December 30, 201113 yr by Juranamo
December 30, 201113 yr Lana Del Ray hopefully. I'd also like to see Emeli Sande doing really well with her album. I wish Yasmin would too but I can't see the last one happening. It's really hard to predict.

It's really hard to predict. There's a new Yasmin song with Ms. Dynamite which I've been hearing on the radio since the summer, but it still hasn't been released yet. It's really good, but I can't see it being a hit unfortunately. :( But maybe she'll get a hit later in the year with something else. December 30, 201113 yr A really hard to predict, agreed. I'll judge the direction of music depending on the outcome of Sound of 2012 - the winner + runners-up will no doubt receive radio 1's support and have an advantage over other new acts. I'm hoping: Azealia Banks, Dot Rotten, StooShe + Michael Kiwanuka (although the latter in particular is looking to be a one-hit wonder). And success for: Lana del Rey, Maverick Sabre, Emeli Sande Would be nice to see Ellie Goulding / Little Boots / B.o.B / Ke$ha / Marina and the Diamonds release and succeed in 2012 - album #2 is going to be difficult for them.

I've been hearing Dot Rotton's new song on the radio a lot recently. I think that could be big (if more radio stations play it). I think all those artists you mentioned that are releasing their 2nd albums will do poorly in the UK, although I'm pretty sure B.o.B's next album will go to #1 in the US easily, and possibly even Ke$ha's too.
December 31, 201113 yr I hope B.o.B and Ke$ha can do well - the latter seems better sett up since it's less than a year since "We R Who We R" but "Blow" flopping showed that she really needs to come back with something a bit different to succeed. I hope Skrillex blows up but I can't quite see it somehow.
December 31, 201113 yr I know he's had a couple of minor hits this year but I hope Maverick Sabre can have some major success next year.
December 31, 201113 yr Definitely Lana Del Rey. I'd say Born To Die will be a contender for highest selling album of the year, and the single will go top 5. Also I think Azealia Banks will be big. Little Mix and StooShe could potentially be the new Girls Aloud/Sugababes as well. Another potentially big girlgroup are 2NE1 - my personal favourite girlband atm, and they're Korean. They're working on English material at the minute and Will.I.AM is on board. They've already released one English song on their debut Korean album: KQEabAesufg Also Nelly Furtado has an outside chance. Well I think she'll ever have a 'surprise hit' era a la Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Scherzinger or total flop era a la Xtina with Bionic. I'm with Charlie on Skirllex - I just can't see him doing it. I don't see how instrumental dubstep can be mainstreamised like that and suddenly be huge... If he does a Magnetic Man type album with guest vocalists (the track Summit, which Ellie Goulding sings on is brilliant) I guess he may have a chance. I'd also love Charli XCX (Nuclear Seasons = tune), but I don't see her doing it sadly. Edited December 31, 201113 yr by Liаm
December 31, 201113 yr I think Niki & The Dove could do reasonably well album-wise at least but I think most other people have been listed already. Azealia and Lana (and maybe Skrillex - hard to predict) will probably own the year as regards new artists.
December 31, 201113 yr I'm hoping Vampire Weekend will come back and become absolutely MASSIVE in 2012. :D
