Hello all peoples of the chart forum. It's time for the annual countdown of the top 200 singles of the year :D

In case you don't remember from last year's thread (the one that went on for 10 months :kink:), this chart is based on a simple points system using the Official UK Singles Top 100 as compiled by the OCC as its basis.

For each of the 52 weeks from week ending 8 January 2011 (when Matt Cardle claimed a third week at #1 with 'When We Collide') to week ending 31 December 2011 (when Military Wives and Gareth Malone topped the chart with 'Wherever You Are') the top 100 singles of the week are given points for their position. The #1 if given 100 points, the #2 99, the #3 98 and so on until the #100 gets 1 point. The weekly totals for all the songs are added together for the final result.

809 different songs appeared in the weekly top 100s to earn at least 1 point for the year. This thread will only be counting down the top 200 of those, but the other 609 will be posted in this first post at the end.

Unlike last year I have a co-host to share the posting of this countdown. Thanks to Little Jack for agreeing to do this with me :kink:

The countdown will begin very shortly :o And hopefully won't go on for so long this time around.

So who's placing odds on this finishing before December this year?

I loved last years rundown, and the commentary was comprehensive - to say the least! Looking forward to 2011's. :D

There's not going to be anywhere near as much commentary this year :P That was the reason it went on so long last year.

But yes, much excitement :kink:

(And last year's one DID finish before December :P)

Wow. It seems like only yesterday you were doing 2010's...oh wait.

Anyway, thanks guys for doing this again. :) I think this year has a clear winner, as opposed to 2010. I don't know what will be #2 though. I predict it would be either S&M or Rolling in the Deep.

Don't worry Juranamo, I'm here to save everything if it goes wrong. :D But at least someone cares. Let's get this started whilst it's still New Year's Day.

200. Justin Bieber - Mistletoe

Peak; #21

Weeks; 7

Points; 381

199. Swedish House Mafia vs. Tinie Tempah - Miami 2 Ibiza

Peak; #42 (during 2011)

Weeks; 15

Points; 386

198. Slow Moving Millie - Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want

Peak; #31

Weeks; 6

Points; 393

197. Lucenzo and Qwote feat. Pitbull and Don Omar - Danza Kuduro (Throw Your Hands Up)

Peak; #13

Weeks; 7

Points; 393

196. The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York

Peak; #13 (during 2011)

Weeks; 5

Points; 394

Kicking us off at #200 is Justin Bieber with 'Mistletoe', the first single off his Christmas album 'Under The Mistletoe' which ended up peaking just outside the top 20 and got beaten by Christmas songs that have been available for years. This is followed by 'Miami 2 Ibiza', released in 2010 (where it peaked at #4 in the UK) as the 2nd single from 'Until One', and also featuring on Tinie Tempah's album. Slotting in at #198 is the song from the 2011 John Lewis advert by Slow Moving Millie, released in November, and although not quite as good as Ellie Goulding's cover of 'Your Song' is my opinion it is still a very sweet little tune. A Spanish/Portuguese European hit is up next, with the UK release featuring rapper Pitbull, which ended up being a bit hit in clubs. Finishing off this section is the best Christmas song 'Fairytale Of New York' by The Pogues featuring the late Kirsty MacColl, which recently passed a million UK sales according to some sources and continues to sell well year after year.

Anyway, thanks guys for doing this again. :) I think this year has a clear winner, as opposed to 2010. I don't know what will be #2 though. I predict it would be either S&M or Rolling in the Deep.

I was about to post a points listing based on the Top 40 but yours will be better than mine so I will not do anything, other than to let Eric know that on my listing

a) Number 1 isn't that much of a foregone conclusion (only 3% between 1 and 2)

b) Neither of your two candidates for number 2 are in my top two!

Could you possibly post yours after Jack and I are done with ours? It'd be interesting to compare the two.

Only really fussed about The Pogues there. Hopefully Someone Like You ISN'T #1!

Will you be posting those outside the Top 200 once all is done... Or will they remain a mystery? :o

Just to clarify, I forgot to mention this in the first post, points ties are broken by peak position (during 2011), then by weeks on the chart (again during 2011).

195. Beyoncé - Love On Top

Peak; #22

Weeks; 7

Points; 395

194. Justin Bieber feat. Jaden Smith - Never Say Never

Peak; #34

Weeks; 9

Points; 396

193. Nero - Crush On You

Peak; #32

Weeks; 7

Points; 402

192. Jason Derülo - Fight For You

Peak; #13

Weeks; 6

Points; 403

191. Evanescence - Bring Me To Life

Peak; #47 (during 2011)

Weeks; 10

Points; 405

At #195 Beyoncé is blabbing on about someone she loves (hopefully Jay-Z one would assume) in 'Love On Top', the 4th single from her 4th album '4'. Justin Bieber rears his ugly head a second time at #194 with 'Never Say Never' featuring the vocal "talents" of offspring of Will & Jada Pinkett Smith, Jaden. Nero are at #193 with their cover of The Jets' 'Crush On You', the fourth hit off their #1 debut album 'Welcome Reality'. At #192, sampling one of my favourite songs of all time (Toto's 'Africa') is Jason Derülo with his latest hit 'Fight For You'. But beating all of these thanks to being flogged off for 59p on iTunes at regular intervals throughout the year, #191 is Evanescence's 2003 UK #1 hit 'Bring Me To Life'. I'm not the biggest fan of the song but each to their own :P

Miami 2 Ibiza is INCREDIBLE! One of the best songs of 2010 imo, and it remains the best single from both the artists (in my opinion).

Love On Top is amazing. Had great longevity before it even became a single.

Fight For You is awful. Jason Derulo's songs are either amazing (Whatcha Say, Ridin' Solo) or awful (In My Head, Don't Wanna Go Home).

Thanks for doing this again Bray :D (and Jack) wow, an older hit by Evanescence effortlessly outperforms their new release  amazing how well it did this year, a very mini revival if you want

190. Ke$ha - Blow

Peak; #32

Weeks; 9

Points; 409

189. Kelly Rowlands feat. The WAV.s - Down For Whatever

Peak; #6

Weeks; 5

Points; 413

188. Nicki Minaj - Girls Fall Like Dominoes

Peak; #24

Weeks; 8

Points; 418

187. Cheryl Cole - The Flood

Peak; #18

Weeks; 7

Points; 418

186. JLS - Take A Chance On Me

Peak; #2

Weeks; 7

Points; 419

American Ke "dollar sign" ha is up at #190 with 'Blow', the 2nd single from her album's re-release, and a weak song by her standards. X Factor judge Kelly Rowland pops up next with 'Down For Whatever', taken from her album 'Here I Am'. Some people seem to compare it to 'On The Floor' but I don't really hear it myself and DFW is a lot worse. Nicki Minaj makes her first of a few appearances with 'Girls Fall Like Dominoes' which samples The Big Pink and is a single (to be quite honest I've lost track) from 'Pink Friday'. Cheryl Cole's worst single (which the public seem to agree with) makes the chart at #187, taken as the 2nd single from 'Messy Little Raindrops'. JLS' ballad of the era, 'Take A Chance On Me', finishes off this section. The peak and BJ reaction make it seem as if it isn't as good but personally it's my 2nd favourite single from the band.

Girls Fall Like Dominos did really well considering it didn't have a music video. And also, I might be wrong, but I don't even think Radio 1 playlisted it.

Blow flopped in the UK (strangely, since you'd think it would've got more radio support following a big hit like We R Who We R), but it was a another massive hit for Ke$ha in the US.

I'm pretty sure it had Radio 1 behind it. As did all her other singles, it just never got a video for whatever reason. :P

It is significantly better than We R Who We R. Great song to party to.

It was playlisted, B list back in April. But yeah, it did alright to say it didn't have a video and she wasn't as big in the UK as she is now (following the success of Super Bass).

It's pretty catchy but I love her debut album and 'Blow' just doesn't compare for me personally. Same for most of the songs on the re-release.

185. The Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling

Peak; #55 (during 2011)

Weeks; 25

Points; 421

184. Scouting For Girls - Love How It Hurts

Peak; #17

Weeks; 7

183. Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up

Peak; #38 (during 2011)

Weeks; 9

182. Nicole Scherzinger - Poison

Peak; #25 (during 2011)

Weeks; 10

Points; 428

181. Leona Lewis and Avicii - Collide

Peak; #4

Weeks; 6

Points; 437

The Black Eyed Peas' massive 2009 #1 got 'I Gotta Feeling' made #7 on the countdown each of the last two years, but fares a bit worse this year, reaching #185. It's the lowest peaking (within 2011) entry in the top 200. Scouting For Girls' most recent single 'Love How It Hurts' comes in at #184 - if you don't remember how it goes just remember how any of their other songs go and you've got the gist. They've gone a bit quiet since that release. It's followed by a pair of 2010 hits hanging on just enough at the start of 2011 to place in the top 200 - Eliza Doolittle's #5 hit 'Pack Up' and Nicole Scherzinger's #3 'Poison' - and this section is closed off by thieving bitch (:kink:) Leona Lewis with 'Collide', the first single off her upcoming third album 'Glassheart'. The song is billed as a collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii as a result of a court battle. 'Collide' sounded incredibly similar to Avicii's instrumental track 'Penguin' - by which I mean it was almost exactly the same and used without permission. Avicii later released a vocal version of his track entitled 'Fade Into Darkness' which flopped completely. Thankfully Avicii has had better times recently and has another entry to come, which wasn't stolen by someone else and turned into a bigger hit... oh wait.
