Out of pure curiosity, how well is the Walk Off The Earth cover of 'Somebody That I Used To Know' doing on iTunes?

 

It's starting to take off really well now across Europe - even in countries where Gotye's original was a hit. Just checked out their video on YouTube and it's already close to 14 million views, and it was only added on 5th January 2012. :o

 

It's actually a decent cover but I'd hate to think this would overshadow Gotye's original version. :(

 

It's up to #74 in the UK now.

 

It was actually at #1 in Canada last time I checked! :o Probably because they're from Canada themselves. Gotye's version was #10 there.

It was mentioned this morning when it was in the 70s. I definitely prefer that version but I'm not going to download it yet because I get the feeling I only prefer it when watching the wonderfully effective video.

I guess it's still only C-list on Radio 1 and I'm not aware of any other support it's getting at the moment so hopefully it doesn't continue to fall or stall...

It's always amazing watching an artist who you never expected to be semi-successful somehow blowing up worldwide.

I thought Walk Off The Earth - Somebody That I Used To Know was a faceless fake version that people were blindly downloading, actually a very good cover though :o Obviously not as good as the original at all but I'm impressed!

Anyone know why The Black Keys are so high? :o

Radio 1 and Absolute radio seem to be playing it a lot at the moment - weird as it's release was all geared up a few weeks back. Anyway, I'm partly to blame - only got round to downloading it this week, thought while it's top 100 on iTunes is a good a time as ever - hopefully it can climb in the next few weeks, would love to see it peak in the top 40.

Unless anyone can state otherwise, it probably just wasn't played on Radio 1 or 2 today (or at least not in a prime slot) so hence why its falling. It'll probably climb again tomorrow and its done incredibly well to get as far as #23 so far IMO with only a handful of radio plays. I'm hoping it'll go top 40 on Sunday and with that, MTV's chart shows will end up playing it next week. I am quite surprised The Box, 4Music etc haven't started playing it yet though but may be next week. Its also B-listed on Radio 2 now as well.

True, it's doing incredibly well for the exposure that its got. But after the disaster of 2010 where almost all of my favourite tracks - and HUGE Euro hits - peaked at or lingered around 21-40 for ages (Waka Waka, Satellite, Wonderful Life, Alors On Danse etc...), I always get a bit cautious when favourites of mine are steadily climbing and then just stop for a while in the 20s area :lol:

Gotye better get to #1. I'd be MORTIFIED if it stalls where it is. :(

I know exactly what you mean but hopefully it won't underperform, its a genuine worldwide smash and its surely going top 10 at least (though like you, hate it when songs hover up and down and don't seem to get anywhere). If its got to #23 on just a few plays, just think what it could do in a few weeks with A list support from Radio 1 & 2 and full TV play!
