Yeah, I think I will remember those songs (certainly Don't Go), but most people won't.

 

For example, My Band was one of my favourite songs from 2004, and I still listen to it all the time, but now in this thread I'm seeing people list it as a novelty song. :( Maybe like 3% of the population still listen to My Band, but that's not enough for it to become a classic. Moves Like Jagger is going to be played to tens of millions of people on a regular basis for decades, so people will say that's a classic.

 

My Band was a fun parody song and they never last. It wasn't good in the normal criteria of music but it was fun. Most of the 2004 top ten is 'fun' in some way but not good.

I think a great deal of the public didn't even know Don't Go, Stay Awake, etc. in the first place (which is probably why they had shorter chart runs).

 

 

Again i think they got to no1 because they were held back before being released and were popular songs/artists at the time!!The OA/OS releases that rose to the tp of the charts and developed popularity are the biggest hits of the year!!
