Over the moon for Kelly, would love her to go Top 5 but top 10 is great, hope she can have a 3rd successful single and give the album a boost too!

Since the last pop bars) Pixie back up to #7. M83 up to #26 (Up 5) JME also back up to #32 (Up 6) and the fake 'Wild Ones' is back up to #86 (Up 12)...

But I have a feeling my iTunes feed has reverted.

Glad Pixie is staying strong and has gone back up to 7.
Why on earth is Rio - Turn This club around flopping in the charts? I thought the British Public would have been eating this up!
I don't know about playlists, but one of the MTV channels I get plays the official top 40 every weekday, so it'll be getting played at least 5 times a week on that channel. I think some other channels proabably play the chart too sometimes.

5 times a week is nothing. Music channels play the same songs practically every hour.

On the video play for Gotye - its being played on mtv rocks. Saw it last weekend, its success on itunes means that the top 40 chart countdowns will play it so it gets more exposure and hopefully soon mtv hits will pick it up.

Its being on capitals radio playlist seals the deal for a top 10 hit in my book. Its underlines how video airplay on ALL the mtv channels is essential!!

Its true, video play can make or break a hit IMO. Gotye will need to be played regularly on the main stations like MTV hits, the box, 4music etc which will hopefully happen soon. It was always going to be big though. I was hoping for a #1 with it but I am not so sure now, simply because I can see it getting stuck at #2/#3 behind loads of one weeks like T.H.E, Wild Ones and Hot Right Now which are all clearly going to be BIG. Nice to see Gotye having a big lead on Ireland's itunes though.

The reverting can be quite confusing sometimes, I am never sure if its new or not, especially on livepop.

^^tRUE IT MIGHT NOT MAKE NO1 BUT IT WILL SELL MORE IN THE LONG RUN LIKE MOST oa/os RELEASES!

08. Taio Cruz - Troublemaker

09. Coldplay - Paradise

I think Coldplay & Pixie Lott will drop out of the top 10 next week.

Apprently Etta James has sadly died today in California because of leukemia.

This could shake up the iTunes chart possibly

R.I.P Etta James

Likely that 'Levels' and 'Good Feeling' could climb

From BBC News

US soul singer Etta James, best known for the tracks At Last and for I'd Rather Go Blind, has died aged 73.

It was announced last year that the singer had been diagnosed with leukemia and was undergoing treatment.

The star began singing in a group aged 14, before she embarked upon a solo career where she signed to the legendary Chess Records label.

She went on to win six Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Legendary producer Jerry Wexler once called her "the greatest of all modern blues singers".

James' manager said she had died in California from complications of leukemia.

Oh my god, so sad to lose such a great talent :(

R.I.P. Etta :(

I agree with UKCSF, 'Levels' and 'Good Feeling' - possibly even 'At Last' are bound get a boost following this sad news.

I didn't know Etta was still alive to be totally honest :o I'm not particularly familiar with any of her work bar the little bit sampled in Levels/Good Feeling but still, R.I.P. :(

I expect 'At Last' will be back in the top 100 very shortly then.

Scarily that is probably going to happen :o

RIP Etta James. :(

I think 'At Last' and 'I'd Rather Go Blind' will both re-enter the top 300 at least. I may be wrong though.

Probably, alas like Moves Like Jagger again, but you never know. I'd say T.H.E will go to #1 on 12th Feb, Hot Right Now on 19th Feb and Rockstar on 4th March and Wild Ones could be a threat to them all though (don't think it has a release date yet?). Of course I could be overpredicting those four but the fake versions suggest they will be big anyway. Gotye could of course become really big itself and stop them or take advantage of a more quiet release week. As soon as Gotye went top 10 in Ireland it went to #1 in a few days so who knows.

lol. I doubt they do. They want to get as many viewers as possible (because more viewers = more money), and people wouldn't watch if the same song gets repeated every 60 mintues.

About Gotye getting to #1, I agree with what someone else says, it's not its peak position or the number of weeks it spends in the top 40 that's important, it's the sales that are. So if it doesn't get to #1, who cares? Lots of other massive hits recently didn't get to #1 (S&M, Born This Way, Firework, etc.), but they all had massive sales.

95. One Week - Barenaked Ladies

From what I can gather from the YouTube comments, this was used on How I Met Your Mother I think?

100. Through the Night - Ren Harvieu

I only recognise that name because it's one of the couple of names I didn't recognise from the Sound of 2011 list  :o

Well I am abit of a Gotye loon B-) Seriously though, you're completely right, ultimately sales are the most important thing and it'll end up selling well long term anyway I'm sure, I just find it completely annoying/frustrating when songs (in general) get stuck behind one weekers even though they will end up being bigger/selling more. I guess in MLJ's case it WILL be remembered by the fact it was stuck behind loads of #1s for 7 weeks
