12. Beyonce - Love on Top - 0.308540

YIKE!. Come on Stronger! :D

I don't think Beyonce is gaining. Kelly's only just overtaken so that's why their numbers are really close. I really hope to God Kelly can get at least a brief stint inside the top 10 on iTunes, coz hopefully the top 10 effect will take it from there, so it actually won't be a "brief stint".

 Rih should overtake Olly Murs quite soon I'd imagine. Get that smash Rih!

I must also say, 'Love on Top' is truly an AWFUL OTT-repetitive song. Beyonce's vocals on it grates my ears so harshly that I'd go as far as saying it's unlistenable. Its popularity is truly bizarre.

You just described You Da One exactly for me with your LOT describtion - I love Rihanna, but c'mon.

Come on!! I appreciate not everyone on here will like that song, but it's easily the most logical choice. It's extremely popular with the general public, and she hasn't released a song like that since Rated R in 2010 (considering Rihanna has released like 20 songs between then and now, that's a pretty big deal ).

I think I may just be blinded by my dislike, it's my least fave on the album (I don't know why, usually I love urban Rihanna!) but I do appreciate it's the logical choice. Leaving Where Have You Been till later, when it will still be a hit. The single remix has Kanye on instead of Jay-Z too apparently, so it could be a big hit for her especially with that.

I agree. I'm not a fan of LOT or YDO, and both artists can do sooooo, soooo much better imo, but LOT >>>> YDO.

I suppose, after all it did do well on cherry picks so that may mean that it's quite liked, that or people were expecting big things from a jay-z collab like 'umbrella'. however it's definitely my least favourite on the album and she's already had 'you da one' to target the sort of r&b audience. 'where have you been' is THE choice.

'You da One' is GODLY. #endofstory

03. Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do The Hump 59.1% :left:

04. Flo Rida - Good Feeling 56.4% 1.3%

05. Pixie Lott - Kiss The Stars 52.6% :left:

06. Swedish House Mafia - Antidote 48.3% :left:

Pixie's increased her lead to 4.3% over SHM and reduced the gap to 3.8% behind Flo Rida.

You Da One isn't doing very well, so it's clearly failing at targetting the urban audience. Talk That Talk will be the first hip hop song that Rihanna has released since Hard, which was quite a while ago. She's released Only Girl, S&M and We Found Love since then for the dance fans, so they can wait 2 months for Where Have You Been imo.

I agree though, that it'll probably suffer from everyone thinking it's not as good as Umbrella.

Huh? SHM have only closed the gap to Pixie since their release.

Can anyone tell me the song structure that LOT uses?

After the first verse, it just sounds like one long mahoosive chorus which progressively changes up a key in 4 or 5 distinct steps.

Most unusual, or maybe it's just my ears :o

It uses the song structure of 'tedium'.

Surprised u think that given ur clear love for the track.

Seriously though, it's really unusual and makes the song stand out. In a good way :P

I couldn't work it out either. I looked it up though, and it goes:

1st (and only) verse

Chorus

Bridge

Chorus

Chorus

Chorus

Chorus

Chorus

And apparently it has 6 key changes in it. Simon Cowell must love that song!

 thank you. Although my post didn't specifically mention you, I thought/hoped you would come along and comment given your expertise in the area.

Cowell doesn't have a writing credit does he? Or law suit credit for inventing the key change?

Still, the whole thing structure wise is very unusual. I'm struggling to think of another song that follows a similar structure.

I wonder if it'll be the winner's single for 2012's X Factor?

I can't think of any other songs that do that, although I'm sure there's some that do. There's probably a lot of dance songs that repeat the chorus for most of the song, but I doubt many of them will have key changes between each one.

It's a song structure worthy of Eurovision or Melodifestivalen, the only song I've ever heard with more key changes is this (which gets a little ridiculous by the 8th one )

Apparently All Around the World by Oasis has a three key changes in the last half of the song, so that's a little bit like Love On Top. Although that's nothing compared to that Eurovision song.

Yasmin's at #85 & #181; #60 combined. I wish she was doing better. :(

I thought it would do better too. :( It's a good song. Although I did prefer Runaway and Finish Line. I was one of the few people that preferred Labrinth's production on Finish Line to Freemasons.

The album version has two verses, so it's not quite as chorus laden. Everyone loves a good key change though! :D
