I'm fully aware that Radio 1 isn't a chart station but considering they run the official Chart every Sunday..you would think they would playlist the most obvious couple of hits!

They are so set in their ways it's a complete joke..they think they are 'Cool' by playing indie/alternative drizzle which quite frankly isn't up to date at all and reaches the amazing heights of top 200 on iTunes and the album bombs..Doesn't that tell them something!?!

No wonder the likes of Capital are growing at a fast rate and Radio 1 is continuing it's decline in listeners..Can't wait till the BBC just goes away quite frankly.

THIS ----> 'All Time Low - Time Bomb'

All Time Low flop with pretty much everything..yet here it is again.

Radio 1 playlist the vast majority of chart hits despite them not being 'contractually obliged to' or whatever like Capital are, I don't get why people have the attitude of 'Radio 1 only play 'cool' floppy indie shite and ignore all the hits' which always comes about whenever there's the occasional big hit (there's a small handful of them per year) that they don't playlist. ('Twilight' was hardly an 'obvious' hit anyway, their last single only just scraped the top 10 and bombed out quickly with pretty much the same level of support).

And record sales aren't the only parameter of success/popularity anyway.

And once again as with when this whole thing happened with 'Moves Like Jagger' your entire argument here seems to boil down to 'they should play [x song] because it's sold a lot and they should not play [y song] because it hasn't sold a lot' which is countered by the fact Radio 1's playlist is not based on chart success.

I see your point. However, they clearly do base commercial songs on sales and chart positions(usually if a song underperforms the following week it's dropped) yet seem to hang onto indie/alternative stuff on the playlist despite it flopping hard.

This criticism has been addressed many times already... but you're illustrating your point by using All Time Low as indie/alternative?!

I think Radio 1 HAVE to play a variety of music, so they're always going to try and have X amount of songs from certain genres on the playlist, whether we like it or not. I think Ofcom can launch an investigation into the station if they aren't playing a certain genre enough. Same with Capital, they HAVE to play mainly hits, and they're not allowed to play lots of songs that aren't charting well.
Yet again Radio 1 look like complete clowns...

Twilight will most likely be #1 next week and it's not even on the playlist -_-

oops

Not again, it looks like you were right.

Basically whatever Radio 1 do they will ALWAYS get criticised.

1) If something they don't play becomes a hit they're criticised because they didn't play it. They will then either A) add it to the playlist straight after, usually on the A-List of B-List or B) don't play it at all. If they do A) then they're criticised for only jumping on something when it becomes a hit. If they do B) they're criticised for still never playing it despite it being popular.

2) They play absolutely everything that becomes a hit. Then they're criticised because nothing can become a hit unless it's played on Radio 1!

Yay for Pixie! :D

"Get Yourself Back Home"? Ruining the best line in the song, I see. Don't really see the problem with saying "ass" IMO. Especially as it's not censored on the music channels.

+ You forgot that if they only play hits then people argue that they're not supporting new British talent! Also known as "The Law of Nicola".

A ridiculous arguement by the people arguing that radio 1 should play chart hits. If radio 1 didnt exist there would be no hope of anything other than the same artists and one hit wonders ever breaking through to the uk top 10!!

Exactly, Gotye being the perfect example assuming he eventually breaks the top 10.

Like I said a few weeks ago when Gotye was first added, I was relieved to see it added, not because I really liked the song (I hadn't even heard it at that point) but because it'd stop people from moaning about how it's all Radio 1's fault if it flops. But I guess they always have to find something to moan about <_<
