Next month BBC Radio 1 will unveil a new ‘look’ Official Chart with Reggie Yates. From Sunday February 26 between 6 and 7PM, music fans will be able to watch the Official Singles Chart Top 10 as it’s counted down live on the Radio 1 website for the first time ever!

As well as watching Reggie live in the studio, each week listeners will be able to see the music videos of those artists in the Top 10, previous Live Lounge performances and exclusive interviews. And, not only that, you’ll also be able to watch Reggie presenting the all new Official Singles Chart Number 1 Award (pictured above), which was launched to mark the 60th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart, to the artist or artists who have reached the top of the chart!

“It's so exciting that Chart Show listeners can now become Chart Show viewers,” said Reggie. “For the first time fans will be able to see all the antics and interviews that take place each week on the show in the run up to announcing the No.1 single as well as being able to watch the music videos from the Top 10 artists.”

“It feels completely appropriate that Radio 1 should choose to reinvent the concept of the radio show in the year that the Official Singles Chart marks its 60th anniversary,” said Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts Company. “The Official Singles Chart has always reflected changing musical tastes and the evolving ways music fans have bought and enjoyed their music. And Radio 1's innovation will change the way music and chart fans engage with the weekly Official Chart Show."

While Ben Cooper, Controller of BBC Radio 1, adds: “This is the Chart Show for the 21st century. I'm very excited about this innovation. Young people will be logging on to listen, watch and take part in the show. I hope that this will be to our young listeners what listening to the chart and waiting to record your favourite pop songs was for another generation.”

The Official Chart with Reggie Yates is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 every Sunday between 4 and 7PM.

Well... a new presenter would have been nice, the burning question, are they still going to do the rest of the top 40, I'm hazarding a guess they are still going to do the usual top 40 from 4pm and than count the top 10 live on radio 1 website from 6pm to 7pm.

What new presenter could they have? The only good presenter on Radio 1 these days is Tim Westwood.

So it will take them an hour to count down the Top 10????

That's a lot of filler material! A 3 hour show should allocate around 45 minutes to each section of the chart (40-31, 30-21, 20-11 and Top 10)

Well, it says in the OP that they'd be doing inteviews and showing live performances (from the Live Lounge), so that's what the filler material would be. That'll give them 30 songs to count down in 120 minutes on the radio before, which I think is possible, since they might not feel the need to talk between tracks anymore with the thing they're doing in the last hour.

The Mirror reported today that TOTP was being brought back as an internet programme. I wonder if this is the truth behind that story.

Why does it surprise me that you think this...

And when Greg James and Scott Mills have done the show they've been better than Reggie. I don't actually mind Reggie, I think he gets too much stick, but either of the other two might be a better bet now he's doing The Voice as well.

I thought that wouldn't surprise people, if anything.

I agree that Greg James and Scott Mills present better than Reggie though. Well, at least in terms of getting the chart-related statistics correct anyway.

I also think Reggie gets too much hate on here aswell. I mean, it's annoying when he says "7 weeks" instead of "6 weeks" every Sunday or whatever, but for people to want him dead, etc?!?! I think he's never going to be popular with Buzzjack though, since people here are obviously not going to like the fact that he talks for 5 minutes whenever Sean Paul or Chipmunk get a new song in the charts, but then says absolutely nothing when Lady Gaga or Inna charts.

Also Radio 1 seem to be convinced that Reggie is the only person who can appeal to young people (which is clearly who their target audience are for the chart show (and the Ben Cooper quote in the OP further suggests that)), which is why I'm not sure if they'll change him. But truthfully, I think a lot of the Radio 1 presenters can appeal to young people. The station as a whole is supposed to appeal to that demographic anyway, I believe.

I thought that the show was getting a revamp/new presenter etc :( (although I have grown to tolerate Reggie oddly enough) this sounds OK, I hope it doesn't affect the rest of the chart too much

I wasn't surprised, I was being sarcastic :P

And yeah, the differing music tastes are probably part of the reason he's disliked here.

Who on Earth said they wanted him dead? I don't recall anyone saying that. But basically if someone fails at their job, they go on a course to improve or get sacked. Why shouldn't it be the same for that twit?

I don't think I'll bother listening much longer. I won't watch this top 10 thing on the website and I don't want to listen to a whole chart show full of Reggie banging on about how 'amazing' the new feature is and referencing it constantly whilst ignoring all songs in the actual chart as they're practically background music these days.

The Idea of the Top 10 videos, is what you can do anyway with You Tube "On Demand", and The music Channels that all of us can get anyway via Freeview, do this anyway all week, a chance to see the Top 10 Music videos.

So again it is not an advancement in to the 21st century.

So more of the same, The BBC just don't get it.

What is wrong about bringing back a hour long programme that used to go out on CBBC called "The UK Top 40" went out 6-7 pm on a Sunday before it was axed.
The Mirror reported today that TOTP was being brought back as an internet programme. I wonder if this is the truth behind that story.

Yes it was a very misleading headline. The truth was that this was being "seen as a TOTP for the 21st century" or something.

Reggie used to do the top 10 from 6pm up until about a year ago anyway didn't he? Lots of filler with the highest new entry in the studio talking inbetween songs etc.

Let's hope Reggie gets uber successful as a TV presenter after he does The Voice and just won't have time to do the chart show any more.

I'm actually quite looking forward to this new thing, it might make it more interesting if we can see videos and performances

I think Reggie will have time to do the Sunday chart show, from what I heard the Voice is only going to be transmitted on a Saturday

I would love if they branded this as TOTP. There is no reason not to and the live lounge performances are perfect for TOTP2. Actually, why not just air it on BBC 1 or 2, all they are showing is Antiques Roadshow and the news.

But won't it eat into the time he takes to do his research for the show?

I'd imagine Antiques Roadshow and the news would probably get more viewers than a Top of the Pops comeback tbh.
