Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but I preordered MDNA and got GMAYL, just got my iTunes receipt and it's showing GMAYL single £0.99... Think those album preorder sales will also be single sales so if I'm right we have no idea how it's doing especially given the whole iTunes campaign is focused on the preorder. Probably wrong but I'd love not to be :-( of course the GMAYL on the singles chart may represent these preorders which would be worrying :-(

I don't know what's happening to me but Lana Del Rey - Born To Die is actually better than I ever thought and I actually quite like it. It's decent and it's catchy but I just find her tone depressing.

Has she got any upbeat tracks on her album?

Upbeat in terms of tempo, no. There's songs in a similar vein to "Born To Die" that have slightly less grim lyrics ("Off To The Races", "National Anthem" and "This Is What Makes Us Girls" mainly), though.

what does it mean when people say a song is "frontloaded" ?

a frontloaded song gets a big boost of sales at first and rapidly climbs up the chart, but doesn't take long to drop. 'twilight' is an example of this.

what does it mean when people say a song is "frontloaded" ?

It's when a song has a high frequency of sales immediately after being released, and then the sales decrease quickly from then on. For example, Titanium, when it was released last summer was very frontloaded. As it went straight into the top 10 on iTunes, and dropped out of the top 100 4 weeks later. Usuaully the reason for a song being frontloaded is because the song isn't getting any promotion, or it's been held back for a long time.

In the olden days a McFly Record :D

Can't seem to find 'Falling Down' by Sub Focus which is supposed to be out now. Hm. I'll look again in the morning I guess.

You won't. Its been available as a free download for weeks now, Monday is just the focus date but its not getting a full release (as far as I can see)

how do you guys think the singles chart would look if there were no downloads and songs only came out on CD like how it used to a few years ago?

I don't know, but I'd imagine similar to what it is now, except lower sales overall, more indie/alternative/rock music in the charts and the X Factor/charity songs would chart higher.

So really you were just slating it all this time without actually listening to it?

Also regarding Madonna, if it actually ISN'T eligible surely it doesn't matter where it is on iTunes at the moment? Although granted it would be a good idea for it to be high in time for whenever it is allowed to chart officially.

Obviously I gave the song a couple of chances, never really clicked with it, but it's done the exact same as Video Games it's grown on me.

I remember going in to HMV and seeing all the top 40 songs listed in chart order and seeing another section next to it called new releases which always included the "CD of the week"

37. T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) [feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez] - will.i.am

299. No One - Maverick Sabre (from 'Love 2 Club 2012')

Oh, so is it not being released at all on iTunes? :( There goes any hope of it going top 40 even if it is (although Knife Party's Internet Friends made the top 100 while being available for free and that didn't have the Radio 1 support Sub Focus has).

Great start for will.i.am :D Really hope it's a will.i.am/Guetta/Gotye top 3 this week.

I was hoping Will.i.am would stall, seems to be the only new entry that is most likely to chart inside the 40.

Seriously, how can people like this Will.I.Am song?

Obviously I understand that everyone has a different opinion on each song but 'T.H.E' is a total waste of money. I would hardly call it a song - especially with J.Lo's part.

Lets see how many songs will hold Gotye at #2 in a Moves Like Jagger style in the next few weeks. First up is T.H.E then. Seems strange to hear a down with the kids 'club banger' by a trio who have an average age of 49!
