What is odd about someone buying it today rather than yesterday? Surely its so simple to understand, her material is all over the TV and Radio. Wow i really dont get some people out there.

The 'One Thing' single seems to be being treated as an EP... #2 on albums behind Fresh.

Well, it has 4 tracks, usually a 'single' on iTunes only has 2... So maybe it's just been incorrectly titled?

I first started paying attention to the charts when 'Its Not Right but its OK' was everywhere. It breaks my heart Whitney is gone. Despite all her problems Million Dollar Bill sounded fresher than anything Beyonce has put out in years. She still had it.

I'm of the opinion if you cared enough about an artist prior to their death you would already own their songs (at least their signature song which is climbing). The amount of people "liking" Whitney on my Facebook just shows they didn't really care that much to do it before she died. The same happened with Amy and Michael.

Whitney hasn't been relevant enough to galvanise her fanbase in years. Whitney was so culturally pervasive for anyone who remembers the 80s and 90s. She was always there, her songs were anthemic and defined an era along with Michael Jackson and Madonna. Its just a matter of her death spurring people to finally get those songs on their MP3 player or in their collection where it may have slipped their mind before. I don't know about you but I don't have all the songs I love on my device.

Hot Right Now is 100% going to #1 in same way Louder did, been on TV and Radio for so long, and its a very popular track.

Glad Next To Me doing really well too, however many people will be waiting for tomorrow for the album so that will effect its sales and position, but #2 will still be great, even though its a shame two great songs (Heaven too) will miss #1, maybe another week who knows..

Whitney takeover today.

I can see where you are coming from - but I invariably find it leaves a bunch of posts I can't reply to. If we'd reached the end of page 50, then closing it would make more sense.

I don't suppose there's a way of blocking new posts, but allowing ones that only quote from old ones?

You '+ quote' posts, you so desperately need to reply to, in a closed thread and then hit 'New Reply' in an active thread. Voilà!

40 entries top 300 and counting...

Edited by Bré

I guess this proves that you can't rely on Ireland's iTunes to have a good idea what the UK #1 is likely to be. Emeli shot to no. 1 in Ireland iTunes so quickly I'd assumed the same would happen here, but it looks like DJ Fresh is going to be the bigger hit here after all. 'Next To Me' may have longer sustained sales and spend more weeks on the chart though.

Re; Whitney Houston 'I Will Always Love You' and 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' are her two biggest hits so it's not surprising to see them looking set to be the highest re entries next week.

I have a feeling Emeli Sande's, Read All About It (Part III) is gonna get cherry picked the most from her new album release this week. I can see it going top 40

I was thinking Hot Right Now must have not been released in Ireland, but no, it's just bombing, only #89 - how odd considering 'Louder' was a big hit in Ireland :o

You can do that across threads - I always thought it had to be in the same thread?

Hey, this cross-thread quoting works! :)

Think Whitney might get No.1 this week?

Not in singles - if MJ couldn't, then there's no way she will.

Gotye is Year End top 10 hit, so it's much more worthy than Cascada.

Also Cascada is trash pop and gotye is more sophisticated music.

Hey, I like Cascada!

her ultimate collection/greatest hits will be number one

The former can't be, as it's currently only eligible for the Budget album chart.

RIP Whitney!!! :( I was never a general fan of her (and I'm still not) but she has had some brilliant moments musically.

For the record, the thing that is FAR MORE annoying than people suddenly buying a recently deceased musician's music (yet not caring much when they were alive) is how touchy people get on this forum and elsewhere when someone says something that isn't pretentiously positive.

Yes the likes of Kobbar's posts are completely idiotic and distasteful but there's nothing wrong with people acknowledging how sheep-like the public can be when a legend dies. Take the Michael Jackson situation for example - I was a huge fan of his prior to his death while so many people would just acknowledge him as "that p@edo with no nose" and would casually ridicule him in various ways. BAM!! He's passed away - cue messages of "I LOVE YOU MJ!" "My hero!" "I'll always love you" "this is so sad". And all I'm thinking is "f**k off you morons".

I actually kind of believe that it's far more respectful to continue having an opinion on someone regardless of whether they're still alive, then to suddenly jump on the bandwagon and pretend you actually care when you really don't.

Rant over. :P

If 'The Ultimate Collection' is budget only then there's no way she'll get anywhere near #1 on the albums chart. I suppose her other GH could go top 5/10 but I'd imagine most of her posthumous album sales will be going to 'The Ultimate Collection' as it's more recent.
