I think Katy Perry could beat Gotye to #1 one week, but I don't think Chris Brown or JLS will sell enough, but they'll do quite well even if they miss #1 anyway.

Nicki maybe could, if she gets a bit video boost. Or maybe even Turn Me On if it gets promoted as an official single here and put down to 59p in the next few weeks (yes, I'm reaching now ).

3 weeks is hardly a "long staying" #1 hit. Even Party Rock Anthem was #1 for longer than that.

Even? It was the third longest staying #1 of the year and had the equal longest consecutive run

3 weeks is hardly a "long staying" #1 hit. Even Party Rock Anthem was #1 for longer than that. However, I do think Gotye has many more weeks at #1 ahead of him, and I think he's very likely to be the year-end #1 to be honest. Quite deservedly, as it's a brilliant song.

I don't think Dappy will be out of the top 10 officially next week. People on here always say that, and they hardly ever fall as far as predicted.

EDIT: Dappy down to #5.

Tyga at #36!! :cheer: I'm still expecting him to peak at any moment though. :( A song like this going top 40 is just too good to be true.

Marcus Collins might be a surprise number 1 i doubt it though also there is Alexandra Burke Labrinths new ones oh and Chris Brown i can see doing well wuth turn up the music

Well, we've always had short-running #1s in the past few years. Maybe it's something to do with the general decline in the quality of chart music since 2008 (which coincidentally happens to be the last year where we didn't have millions of 1-weekers)? But in other countries not named Japan they have songs staying at #1 for 5+ weeks regularly. Infact, it's normal and expected, so in comparison it's short in the UK, and 3 weeks is hardly impressive. Come on, even Tinchy Stryder/N-Dubz were at #1 for 3 weeks!! It's hardly that impressive.

Maybe this time next month when Gotye is on his 6th week.

02. Emeli Sande - Next To Me 64.6%

03. Nicki Minaj - Starships 62.8%

04. Flo Rida & Sia - Wild Ones 62.2%

05. Dappy & Brian May - Rockstar

Is there any new releases next week? I could see Dappy falling quite fast!

Contenders for next week's number 1:

Marcus Collins – Seven Nation Army (CDS)

StooShe feat Travie McCoy - Love Me

Tinchy Stryder feat Pixie Lott - Bright Lights

But you made it sound like "Party Rock Anthem" was a fairly minor hit that somehow devalues the idea of spending a month at #1...

Is it Ke$ha's birthday today too? I kind of miss Ke$ha a bit actually. I don't know why though. I think I just loved her attitude to life.

Is that a circumspect way of saying that she's hot? :P

I have an alternative explanation : in the 2005-2007 period, sales of the #2 averaged only 50% of the #1, but nowadays it's more like 2/3rds to 3/4's - so the moment sales of a #1 start to decline, there's always something snapping at its heels, thus usually preventing long runs at the top.

No one will be able to stop gotye for a long time

I don't agree - his sales have levelled off now, and as soon as they start to decline, the new releases will be all over him.

It's a weird one with Ke$ha. To me at least, she looks really hot sometimes, and then vomit-inducing other times. I've seen some awful pictures of her, but when she's got make up on and when she's wearing good clothes she looks stunning, so much that I have a hard time controlling myself.

Interesting perspectives about the other things. If Gotye's sales start decresing soon, he may not be at #1 as long as we might think. Although I think sales usually decrease slower than they increase, and we never know what could randomly give him a sales boost.

Episode of Glee FINALLY aired in the UK, so 'Without You' is at #89!

However, it was released on UK iTunes way back in January where it got to #30-something so that's why it's not doing that well ATM.

That's a bizarre statement to witness in the iTunes thread...

Gotye could be no1 for this week and possibly next but his sales have peaked now (95-97k last week). He sell 90-95k this week and 80k+ next week by which time the big new entries could overtake him.

All this proves to me is the effectiveness of OA/OS when the release strategy is managed properly and the song is good....hope Dappy's label takes note lol!!

haha it does look a lot like ke$ha!

Starships and Turn Me On both could've been Ke$ha songs aswell lol.
