Turn Me On at #10, wonder if it'll hang on, or later in the week Niggas In Paris may make a return?

Well, I'm glad to see all 4 of the major releases in the top 10. I do really like all of them (and have downloaded all of them). I hope Labrinth can get to at least top 5.

 36. The Swarm - You Me At Six

 75. Go In, Go Hard - Angel

Ouch at Alex out of the top 10 already.

I suspect the days of JLS getting No 1 singles are behind them now, hence a split is on the horizon- I give them no more than 24 months.

New Releases

3. Part of Me - Katy Perry

7. She Doesn't Mind - Sean Paul

8. Proud - JLS

9. Last Time - Labrinth

34. The Swarm - You Me At Six

69. Go In, Go Hard - Angel

Rage/Joe would be my fave chart battle too, since i didn't really follow iTunes charts or anything at the time

I also thought Adele (SLY) vs Gaga (BTW) vs Jessie J (PT) from last year could've went any way!

None of the Sport Relief charity tracks have made #1, if my memory serves me right. I can't see JLS getting there.

I think there's an opening for them to crack the USA with One Direction and The Wanted doing well there, so if they can pull that off they could still be around for a while to come. It'd probably help if they could get a second #1 album as well. But yeah, they're probably not far from a split (but boybands are never around for that long, JLS have had a pretty good lifespan so far and 'Proud' is heading for at least the top 3 which isn't a disaster).

McFly 2006- Don't Stop Me Now :o

Not even the saxophone solo?

That's what I meant by "except for the bridge I suppose".

I think the song is a non-event overall though. Comapred to something like E.T. which is unlike anything I've heard from a female pop artist in the past few years from beginning to end. And Firework had the chorus, I Kissed a Girl had the lyrics and media controversy. Teenage Dream and The One That Got Away (and again E.T.) were slower tempos than most other pop songs from 2010-2012. So overall, I don't think Katy's discography is that generic really. Part Of Me is certainly one of her least interesting songs imo.

That's true. And it does seem being big in the US helps your chart performance here.

JLS would need to differntiate themselves from The Wanted and One Direction somehow, which I think would be the main challenge. And also, I think there's certanly less hype around JLS now. One Direction's opening sales for their album in the US are quite mind-blowing all considering, but they've been inescapable on Twitter, etc. even for people in other countries. JLS, I think get less of that type of exposure at the moment.

Dear god, I hope you're right on that one! Their music just gets even more bland as time goes on

'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' is lucky to have had such a brilliant video, for me. I don't think I would have liked that song so much had it been given a video like 'Teenage Dream' for example. It's pretty generic, I agree though. But I quite like genericness (as long as it isn't TOO generic (like most of JLS' stuff) etc.)

Katy has definitely formed her own sort of pop and I think what she's done is she's got the most generic of songs, but somehow turned them into modern pop classics and made them her own, due to the delivery of her vocals and the power she uses. She uses her voice well to songs, which makes her versatile to do stuff like 'California Gurls' and 'Part Of Me' and then move onto doing original stuff like 'E.T.' and 'The One That Got Away'.

EDIT: She also has a certain "cry" to her voice on stuff like TOTGA, 'Thinking Of You' and 'Pearl' which makes her sound vulnerable and imo, it helps to sell the song.

I also thought Adele (SLY) vs Gaga (BTW) vs Jessie J (PT) from last year could've went any way!

I actually disagree with that. If I remember correctly, in the Friday mid-weeks that week we had Adele only a small-ish number of copies behind the #1, and she was sitting at #1 on iTunes combined with like a 60% lead or something ridiculous, and 48 hours to close that small gap.

I'd say the week before was more unpredictable, with Jessie J/Chipmunk/Lady Gaga. Jessie and Chipmunk were quite close, and Lady Gaga had that massive release at the end of the week with an enourmous lead on iTunes. Lady Gaga ended up quite far behind in the end, but most of us were having difficulty estimating how much she was actually selling due to its mid-week release.

Other ones for me were JLS vs. Katy Perry vs. B.o.B. I LOVED Airplanes, and wanted it #1 really badly. JLS got to #1 on iTunes with a small lead and were #5 at the end of the week, and Katy and B.o.B were about equal the whole time. Judging by iTunes I thought JLS had a chance at missing #1 (since their lead was honestly never that big and they fell so far), but it turned out they were about 10,000 ahead still.

Also David Guetta vs. B.o.B. I wanted Fergie to get that #1 SO BAD. That was a really close week, and the Gettin' Over You remix took a long time to actually take off for some reason.

I wonder if we'll end up with a chart battle this week, but it's already looking quite clear to me that Katy is getting the #1. But it's nice to have a different #1 anyway.

Katy Perry has a certain something, I don't know what, that stops her from being generic imo.

When I think generic, I think The Saturdays, David Guetta, JLS, Bruno Mars, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Jessie J - even Rihanna at times. Now I love most of those (JLS are average and Bruno is just good, plus David has absolute shite in his discography) but they are generic. I don't see Katy as generic though, even if some of her songs (for example Part Of Me, Teenage Dream and Last Friday Night) are awfully generic, she manages to make them unique in her own way.

Yeah i remember the days JLS would have a release and it was definitely going to be #1, now not so much, i guess competition..not as fresh..bland material, like they arent really progressing, it seems to be same kind of thing. They have done so well though, and are still doing well, so that cant be taken away from them.

Glad to see Turn Me On still top 10. It managed to overtake SHM and Alex just in time :cheer:

I don't think Niggas in Paris has a chance at top 10 now unfortunately. It really didn't get much of a boost when it entered the top 10, so i doubt it will manage to climb back in again. (That may have been because of the weekend effect, but still...)

I think it still could becauuse the 3 songs blocking it from the top 10 are Alexandra, DJ Fresh and Swedish House Mafia, all of which are falling I think, so it could feasibly be #11, and if one of the 4 new songs in the top 10 falls really fast then it might get back in. Got 2 Luv U only spent a couple of days in the top 10 I think, so maybe Sean Paul might drop out before the end of the week, so then it can get the top 10 effect and stay in for the week after?

This might be mainly wishful thinking on my part though.

Does anyone think Alexandra will get another week in the Top 10?

I really hope so.

I know everyone seems to bash JLS these days because of One Direction and The Wanted's ventures in America but both those acts are getting way ahead of themselves - One Direction probably less so but you can just tell Harry Styles is gonna be the Robbie Williams of the band, I can see it coming from a mile off from recent press reports.

What The Wanted seem to be forgetting from their recent comments about them and One Direction is that album sales matter more in the long run in America - the singles, however big sellers they are as 'Glad You Came' has indeed been, are only relevant from an airplay front, and are really there as vehicles to drive the album and I honestly can't see them shifting albums in America, certainly when they just about edged over a gold disc with 'Battleground' here in the UK (although having said that I've had that album on again this week and I'm warming to it slowly, there's some solid moments on there.)

America's really not the be all and end all it's made out to be - sure, it's nice, but Robbie Williams has sold 57m records worldwide, Girls Aloud got 7 years worth of hits here in the UK and had huge sales and tour success, and neither of them cracked America. I reckon JLS would have probably done a bit better if they'd spent a bit more time over there when they were in the States in 2010 and not released 'Everybody In Love' as their first single there - if they'd released 'Beat Again' first it would have been recieved a lot better I think.

But as it stands, they did give it a shot, and they still sell more albums and tours than One Direction and The Wanted currently do here in the UK, certainly they have a lot more of a genuine brotherhood and a good work ethic between them as well despite their X Factor roots which I don't think even factors (pardon the pun) into the equation anymore. They'll go the distance because of that. Maybe after this current tour of theirs they should look at going to Europe and releasing some stuff there because I reckon they'd get a great response.

good to see a nice clearout of the top 10 and hopefully a new number 1 soon, didn't expect Sean Paul quite so high, but at the same time this has been getting some very good radio support. Katy's song is far from her best, but I still quite like it

it is good to see JLS not heading straight to number 1 although I actually don't mind this one, their material just has been really weak and I think this is part of the reason why the other two boybands are ahead of them in terms of worldwide success - they really need a great single in the vein of Glad You Came and What Makes You Beautiful or this could be the beginning of the end for them...

on Katy Perry's singles of the last era, I seem to prefer her odd numbered singles :P :

California Gurls (7/10)

Teenage Dream (4/10)

Firework (8/10)

E.T (3/10)

Last Friday Night (8/10)

The One That Got Away (8/10)

I never got the fuss with Teenage Dream or ET, they were both so limp...
