March 21, 201213 yr May as well have a place to talk about it in. Please reduce fuel prices. Im too tired to think of anything else. No chance mate....
March 21, 201213 yr I'm guessing at some point someone's going to post this video, so I'll pre-empt it for you: BI7fudmO7FY
March 21, 201213 yr So much has been leaked that there doesn't seem much point in Osborne bothering with the speech. However there is a suspicion that there is something really nasty on the way which will get buried by what we already know.
March 21, 201213 yr From Labour MP Chris Bryant "Basically today's statement at 1230 will be more a review of the papers than a proper budget". That just about sums it up.
March 21, 201213 yr Growth forecast for this year slashed from 2.5% to 0.8%. Personally Allowance going up to over £8k this year and 10k in two years time. The 50p tax rate is now 45p :manson: Fuel duty will go up by 3p/l in August which translates to a good 4-5p/l at the pumps I reckon finding diesel for less than £1.50/l by the end of the summer will be impossible :manson: :manson: :manson: New tax avoidance laws will be brought in, but nothing really specific has been noted. Stamp duty up to 15% for people buying £2m+ properties through companies and up to 7% for those buying normally. 'Funding' for construction companies. Those earning more than 60k pa will not get any child benefit, those earning between 50-60k will receive deductions. Corporation Tax has been slashed by 4% (!!!) to 24% with it falling to 22% in 2014 :manson: Extra capital allowances for people who set up shop in Dundee, Irvine, Nigg and Deeside (Three in Scotland and One in Wales) Tax relief for Video Game companies and TV productions inc Animation. Unemployment to hit 8.7% this year. Duty on tobacco to be increased by 5% over inflation from 6pm today. About 37p on a pack of 20 fags. New duty on gaming machines at a standard rate of 20% and a lower rate for low-prize machines of 5% of net takings. Vehicle Excise Duty to rise with inflation (thank god mine is Free still). Automatic review of state pension age to ensure it keeps pace with increasing lifespans. New single-tier state pension for future pensioners to be set at about £140 and based on contributions. Pensioners will have their extra allowances axed. Unless you are on it currently in which case it's frozen until the Personal Allowance catches up with it where by it's officially axed. Roads are to be privately invested in in a similar way to the M6 Toll Road. Bank levy to be increased to 0.105% from January 2013 "to ensure that corporation tax cuts do not benefit the banks" New cap on tax reliefs set at 25% of total income for anyone claiming more than £50,000 in a year, but no significant change to pensions relief. Family welfare grant and council tax relief for armed forces doubled. Extra £100m to improve military accommodation - funded by £2.4bn savings from ending combat operations in Afghanistan. Some of this is good, some/most of this is just :manson:
March 21, 201213 yr Danny Alexander is on the BBC wanking on about the 50p tax rate being avoided and the 45p rate will raise more money. Here's a novel idea. TRACK THE FUCKERS DOWN AND MAKE THEM PAY THE BLOODY MONEY THEY OWE whilst closing all the loop holes.
March 21, 201213 yr Duty on tobacco to be increased by 5% over inflation from 6pm today. About 37p on a pack of 20 fags. I hate swearing, even on boards, but f***, I start work at 6PM tonight, and I'm working on the tobacco kiosk. Work will be hell tonight.
March 21, 201213 yr Ooooooooooh you're going to have a fun night! If companies change the price given that it was only announced an hour ago.
March 21, 201213 yr Here's the full budget report. I'm giving it a glance to see if there's anything particularly nasty that hasn't been mentioned. They're relaxing Sunday Trading Laws during the summer months, so more good news if you work in a supermarket. http://cdn.hm-treasury.gov.uk/budget2012_complete.pdf Edited March 21, 201213 yr by Brett-Butler
March 21, 201213 yr In Scotland you can trade 24hrs a day 7days a week. The restriction on trade on Sunday's in England/Wales/NI always baffled me.
March 21, 201213 yr So here are the good bits 15% stamp duty when a property is bought via a company (assuming it can be enforced) Regular review of state pension age. Moves to increase retirement age should have started at least 30 years ago. A cap on tax relief - again as long as it can be enforced and accountants don't just come up with other ways of avoiding tax. Increase in personal allowances. Hefty increase in tobacco duty. Tax relief for television production - a similar scheme was introduced by the last government and abolished in Osborne's first budget so this is effectively a u-turn. The bad bits - more or less everything else.
March 21, 201213 yr I agree with the corporation tax cut, what we need rather than the VERY unnecessary 50p-45p cut... horrendous. Agree with the tobacco inflation but not liking road privatisation.. Mixed.
March 21, 201213 yr So much has been leaked that there doesn't seem much point in Osborne bothering with the speech. However there is a suspicion that there is something really nasty on the way which will get buried by what we already know. And indeed there was an attempt to hide something nasty but he failed. He is freezing the age allowance (which means pensioners get a higher tax-free allowance than thee rest of us). That will be bad news for many pensioners. New pensioners after April 2013 will not get an age allowance at all.
March 21, 201213 yr That in particular is a complete disgrace. As someone who recently studied the age allowances at uni, I can vouch they certainly weren't hard to work out.
March 21, 201213 yr Time to give up smoking I think Well, one part of the Budget seems to be working at least :P
March 21, 201213 yr That in particular is a complete disgrace. As someone who recently studied the age allowances at uni, I can vouch they certainly weren't hard to work out. It's also high risk. Older people are more likely to vote.
March 21, 201213 yr Tax cuts for the rich at the expense of pensioners.... Really, really nasty...... <_< If they actually wanted to do something for the economy, they should have brought back the 10p rate of tax for low paid workers, it's not as if the top earners are exactly the ones who are going to revitalise the High Streets and spend in local economies.. They'll be taking skiing holidays, buying Italian fashions and sports cars, and buying expensive imported goods.... -_-
March 21, 201213 yr And indeed there was an attempt to hide something nasty but he failed. He is freezing the age allowance (which means pensioners get a higher tax-free allowance than thee rest of us). That will be bad news for many pensioners. New pensioners after April 2013 will not get an age allowance at all. I fail to see the motivation behind this other than to decentivise older people to work and make unemployment figures seem less bad. But I honestly don't think it's too bad a budget, surprisingly.
