Retro thanks to Chartstats

I'm not working on Sunday for the first time in months, so I can finally be here for the chart show. Yay.

Hoping to see The Vaccines in the top 40 later on today. It's slightly annoying that songs I've liked for ages suddenly becoming popular due to being promoted by shows I despise (c.f M83), but I guess the exposure's good.

It's physical release came a week later I think and it was held off by 8000 copies. I was PISSED at the time. Especially because of the trash that beat it <_<

I recall your annoyance!

Actually I think Dont Speak is from 1996, but the UK normally had a bit of a delay. Just looking at the top10s, Shakira, Nickelback and Lasgo were originallly from 2001, and No Doubt, DJ Quicksilver and Sash were originally from 1996.

I'm quite surprised too purely because Spice Girls sold 85k the previous week in their 3rd and final week at no. 1 - would've thought the track's sales would've tailed off a bit faster but it appears not. :o

Yes, it was released in 96 in the USA but didn't do that well there (I'm Just A Girl did though).

The answer is it was Easter on March 30th 1997 and the hols meant that record sales that week increased all round with a lot of songs seling more even though their position lessened. In the case of SG they simply slowed down the rate of decrease :D

Just A Girl was their first single I think, from 1996, across the globe, even in the UK, but it underperformed, no?

Hi guys, looking forward to hearing the Vaccines on the chart today :D certainly more so than hearing that number 1 *shudders*
