April 12, 201214 yr I;m not a Madonna stan or anything but Gaga/Rihanna etc. have absolutely nothing on what a phenomenon Madonna was at her absolute peak. It's such a shame she's slowed, but no-one can stay that big forever I guess! It's a new release, so no 'boost' involved :P OH, I'm such a flop fan I didn't even know I forgot they had a new album out and assumed it was their last one  I was going to say, as if them just using Here's To Us (which isn't even on this album) on Glee would do that! Nice to see them have a tiny bit of a fanbase, of course sales are shit and they'll fall out by Sunday but still :P EDIT: Oh Here's To Us is on there, total fail from me then :drama: Edited April 12, 201214 yr by Liаm
April 12, 201214 yr But the uk and us should really be her biggest markets and they are the 1st and 3rd biggest markets in the world overall! Slightly off topic and just for my own clarity - I thought the UK was now No.4 in the music markets. I thought Germany overtook us last year to make it: 1st - USA 2nd - Japan 3rd - Germany 4th - UK
April 13, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Adele eyeing chart-topping return Source: MW 11:41 | Friday April 13, 2012 By Paul Williams Adele’s 21 looks like it is heading back to the top of the UK artist albums chart this weekend for a 22nd week at number one. Buoyed by BBC One repeating a recording of her concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall a week ago, the album has increased its sales by 11.5% on the week and currently leads the Official Charts Company’s midweek table. Its lead of around 1,800 units up to the end of business on Thursday is a narrow one, but the Adele album is in the ascendance at retail having at the beginning of the week sat behind Rough Trade act Alabama Shakes’ debut album Boys & Games. Previously leading the market, this has now dropped down to number three on Sales Flashes with Cash Money/Island act Nicki Minaj also now ahead in second place with Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded. This debuted at number one last Sunday. Adele’s likely return to number one in the UK could be accompanied by a revisit to the top spot in the US as well next week with 21 expected to achieve a 24th week heading the Billboard 200. Other than 21, sales of all the other albums in last week’s Top 10 are down, giving Polydor act Lana Del Rey the chance to creep back into the top end of the chart. Born To Die was placed 11th on last Sunday’s chart, but with its sales down only 1.9% in the week so far, compared to up to 72% for some titles, it has moved up to sixth place in the midweeks. Ahead of it, Island/Lava’s Jessie J moves 8-4 with Who You Are and Virgin’s Emeli Sande holds at five with Our Version Of Events. Former Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen is set for a second week at number one on the UK singles chart with Call Me Maybe’s sales 68% ahead of those of nearest rival, Def/Jam Mercury act Justin Bieber’s newly-released Boyfriend, up to the end of trading on Thursday. RCA’s brand new Usher single Climax will probably join them in the top five on Sunday. It is placed third currently in the midweeks, although is only a few hundred sales ahead of the Island-issued Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra in fourth position. Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Mianj is five with Starships. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Carly Rae Jepsen 2 Justin Bieber 3 Usher 4 Gotye/Kimbra 5 Nicki Minaj Top 10 6 Sway 8 fun./Janelle Monae Top 20 Script Top 30 22 Breathe Carolina Drake Top 40 Wheatus Train 37 Beyonce 39 Rainbow Mix Phil Oakey & Giorgio Moroder ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Adele (1.8k ahead) 2 Nicki Minaj 3 Alabama Shakes 4 Jessie J 5 Emeli Sande Top 10 6 Lana Del Rey Top 15 Gotye Ramin Adele [19] 14 Lionel Richie Top 20 Counting Crows Rizzle Kicks Top 30 Florence + The Machine [MTV Unplugged] Maverick Sabre Ben Howard Black Keys Top 40 Script [s&F] NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Katy P 10+2 Azealia 10+3 Olly Murs 20+1 Alexandra 20+6 Kelly C 20+9 Albums Ed Sheeran 5+5 Madonna 10+5 Coldplay 10+8 Rihanna 10+9 Katy P 20+6 Noel Gallagher 30+1 Lostphrophets 30+4
April 13, 201214 yr Imagine if Jessie J climbs to #1 with her album, its been out how long now? Laserlight is shooting up, and Domino still selling well and is everywhere, so who knows, it could finally get there? :o Must be near a million sales now? Edited April 13, 201214 yr by Karma

April 13, 201214 yr Author Are Bruce Springsteen or Paul Weller in the Top 40? Yep... Bruce 30+3 Paul 30+8
April 13, 201214 yr Author And why has Radio 1 got the Weds mid Album chart update from March 2010
April 13, 201214 yr uggh at Adele being the number 1 album again. Seriously hasnt every household in the UK got it now? lol Pleased that Alexandra should stay top 30 this week. Also pleased FUN are already up to 7. Possibly top 5 by Sunday?
April 13, 201214 yr Yep... Bruce 30+3 Paul 30+8 Thanks :) It seems Paul Weller will have another week in the Top 40 if it wasn't there on Wednesday.
April 13, 201214 yr Author I think we lose Rainbow Mix and Phil Oakey by the end of the week, Laserlight and the new track from the Rizzle Kicks should push them out, I wonder if the Beatles track scrape in
April 13, 201214 yr Slightly off topic and just for my own clarity - I thought the UK was now No.4 in the music markets. I thought Germany overtook us last year to make it: 1st - USA 2nd - Japan 3rd - Germany 4th - UK i thought germany overtook us to become the 2nd biggest or thats what i thought the MW article said a few months back. Didnt realise japan would be in there. MW sort of shun japan in the world charts review cos its market is so inward looking lol!!
April 13, 201214 yr Japan is technically the biggest market, but no Western acts ever really break there, so it seems a lot less important than it is. Their charts will have literally 90% (usually even more) local acts, perhaps a few Korean acts and then once in a blue moon a special Western act can chart.
April 13, 201214 yr Why is that, and how many people live in Japan? It has always been a very insular coun try, well up to the 1930s anyway, maybe it s cultural thing. We have to remember that the uk and america arent the centre of the world!!
April 13, 201214 yr lol okay. Maybe Adele I guess. Rihanna is my favourite pop star, but she's not that iconic. Just lots of really good songs. They don't come close to Madonna (or Britney, Christina or Beyonce, which are the best I've got from my lifetime). How has GaGa not had the same impact as Christina or Britney? OH WAIT, I forgot you weren't being objective about it. My bad.

We have to remember that the uk and america arent the centre of the world!! I don't know actually, it is pretty weird that it's so localised. All the Japanese artists do special packages and things with weird things like cardboard cutout dolls and handbags included with the album (which is the norm there), whereas Western ones don't, I think that could be partly to blame. It's odd though that very few Japanese artists (if any) break through here, in fact that goes for the whole of Asia! The population is about 128 million btw.
April 13, 201214 yr Michael Kiwanuka is really underperforming isin't he, his album is looking likely to spend less than 7 weeks in the top 40. Unfortunately :( However, the album is very disappointing and the only 3 songs that I genuinely like off it are 'Bones' 'Im getting ready' and 'Home Again'. I think they made me SO2012 because of the Beige music of last year and its really backfired. In other news, how the bloody hell is Adele on course for ANOTHER week at number one?
April 13, 201214 yr Author In other news, how the bloody hell is Adele on course for ANOTHER week at number one? Adele tops Sunday Times Rich List of British musicians under 30 12 April, 2012 By Rhian Jones Source: MW Adele has been named the UK’s wealthiest young woman in music with a £20m fortune – £14m of which has been made in the last year. Two best-selling albums have sent the 23-year-old to the top of the Sunday Times Rich List of young British musicians. The rise comes after her six Grammy Awards and two Brit Awards for her album 21 – which has sold more than 20 million copies. The Rich List places her £8m ahead of Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Katie Melua who are joint second with fortunes of £12m each. The five newcomers in The Young Music Millionaires Top 20, each worth £5m, are made up of all four members of boyband JLS plus 24- year- old Jessie J, who has sold almost a million copies of her album Who You Are in the UK. There are eight women in the top ten wealthiest young musicians, with R 'n' B star Craig David and Scottish singer Paolo Nutini making sure it isn't a female only list. The Sunday Times Rich List will be published in full on April 29.
