But the uk and us should really be her biggest markets and they are the 1st and 3rd biggest markets in the world overall!

Well the Hard Candy era showed that the UK is not her biggest market anymore.

In Germany MDNA reached already gold status although it entered only at #3.

Well you can also say that Eros Ramazzotti's career is a disaster because he has never touched the UK and US charts (and yet, somehow he's one of the biggest selling artists in Europe)

But, let's not go there..

Never having those markets is not equatable to having them and then losing them though?

Incidently what are album sales in Germany like? I think madge has jumped in at no1 in the uk but fallen away quickly due to the lack of big hit from her album - has a second single even started being played yet? I know masterpiece is alisted on radio 2 which is ominous for any chance of a hit single to help the album because it seems radio 1 have dropped her!

Second single was meant to be Girls Gone Wild but I've not heard it on any stations nor have I seen the video, and the CD single isn't out til next month (was meant to be last week iirc but they randomly moved it forward) :/

Masterpiece is the ONLY song on the left that stands any chance, but apparently it's Turn Up THe Radio next.

fun. at #36 already - wow, didn't expect to see it inside the top 40.

Six new entries: Justin Bieber, Usher, Sway, Breathe Carolina, fun. and then the fake fun. I guess.

+ three re-entries: Train, Wheatus and I'd assume something with a Now 81 boost / or 'Without You' by David Guetta.

Midweek Charts: Adele in hot pursuit of Alabama Shakes

Source: MW

By Paul Williams

US rock band Alabama Shakes have taken an early week in the race to top this weekend’s UK artist albums chart, but Adele’s 21 is only a few hundred sales behind.

Sales of XL’s Adele album are up 22% on the week, mainly as a result of BBC One broadcasting again last Thursday her concert last year at the Royal Albert Hall. If the album does return to number one its run will be extended to 22 weeks.

Having debuted at one last Sunday, Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj album Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded has suffered a 71% dive in sales in the week so far, placing it at three on the midweeks. Island/Lava’s Jessie J has progressed 8-4 on the midweeks with Who You Are, despite its own sales falling 22%, while Virgin’s Emeli Sande currently remains in fifth position where she sat on last Sunday’s chart with Our Version Of Events.

Lana Del Rey looks like taking advantage of a quiet week for new releases with a Top 10 return for Polydor-issued Born To Die as it progresses 11-7 in the week to date, while Sony-handled Moshi Monsters album Music Rox drops 4-8, Syco’s Labrinth slips 2-9 with Electronic Earth and Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran holds at 10 with +.

Counting Crows’ first Cooking Vinyl album Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation) is currently appearing as a new entry at 11, a place above Masterworks/Columbia’s newly-issued self-titled Ramin album. Florence + The Machine will also be among the new entries this Sunday with the Island album MTV Unplugged registering presently in 17th position.

Lionel Richie’s Mercury album Tuskegee is enjoying a 151% boost in sales following the screening of an ITV1 special on Good Friday. This has lifted it on the midweeks from 26-13.

Justin Bieber last week recorded the second-highest first-week sales for a download in history in the US with Boyfriend and the Def Jam/Mercury track now looks like becoming his highest-charting single so far in the UK. Bieber until now has got as high as number three in the UK, achieved with Baby featuring Ludacris in 2010, but he looks like going one better with Boyfriend securely in second place on the midweeks.

Ahead of it is Interscope/Polydor act Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, which debuted at one on Sunday, while RCA act Usher appears in third place with newly-released Climax.

Nicki Minaj’s Cash Money/Island single Starships is currently fourth, where it stood on last Sunday’s chart, while Gotye featuring Kimbra’s Island single Somebody That I Used To Know drops 3-5 and Atlantic/VP act Sean Paul falls 2-6 with She Doesn’t Mind.

UMTV’s Sway is heading for his first Top 10 single with Level Up at present appearing as a new entry at seven, while the current Top 10 is completed by Positiva/Virgin’s David Guetta featuring Sia dropping 7-8 with Titanium, Atlantic’s Flo Rida featuring Sia falling 8-9 with Wild Ones and Virgin’s Katy Perry down 6-10 with Part Of Me.

Despite Boyfriend’s spectacular sales start in the US last week, Fun featuring Janelle Monae managed to hold onto the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week with We Are Young and now the Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic single is about to become a UK hit. It is the 36th top seller in the week so far, three places below Rainbow Mix’s self-released cover of the same song. Also heading for a Top 40 debut are Fearless/Columbia's Breathe Carolina with Blackout.

Meanwhile, Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder’s 1984 Virgin hit Together In Electric Dreams is shaping up for a Top 40 return following its use in an EDF TV ad. It moves 118-38 on the midweeks.

There is a few bloopers on the Radio 1 mid chart, some tracks are actually going up instead of going down notably tracks from Wheatus and Phil Oakey.

Outed

31. Rihanna - 'Talk That Talk (feat. Jay-Z)'

33. Coldplay - 'Charlie Brown'

34. Olly Murs - 'Dance With me Tonight'

35. Flo Rida - 'Good Feeling'

36. Ed Sheeran - 'Lego House'

37. StooShe - 'Love Me (feat. Travie McCoy)'

38. Alyssa Reid - 'Alone Again (feat. Jump Smokers!)'

40. Maroon 5 - 'Moves Like Jagger (feat. Christina Aguilera)'

I can't imagine 'Together in Electric Dream's or the fake fun. track holding on to a top 40 placing by Sunday - so I reckon Coldplay, Rihanna and Olly Murs are all in contention for a return to the top 40, though of course 'Moves Like Jagger' could always climb back up again unnoticed. And then there's the possibility of Alex Clare, Rizzle Kicks' 'Traveller's Chant' or Jessie J's 'LaserLight' climbing into the top 40 during the week.

Chris Brown - Turn Up the Music - (01-05-11)

Promising start to its chart run then, haha. Album released on May 7th, but a second version is really necessary if this is going to hold up against all the Now 81-boosted tracks.

Bit of a Name change to Heather from Martin. ;)

1. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

2. Justin Bieber - Boyfriend

3. Usher - Climax

After Sunday and Monday sales

I was right

Alabama Shakes no1 album - amazing achievement even if they do fall to 2/3 by sunday!!
I was right

That wasn't that difficult tbh. :-/

MDNA down to #15 :(

17 Florence + The Machine [MTV Unplugged]

I said it would be Top 40, but I didn't expect it to be this high! :o

OMG HALESTORM TOP 40

Is that literally just because Here's To Us was on Glee? Can't have had that big a boost surely?

Emeli Sande at #5 in the albums, so it’s possible that she can climb to #4 come Sunday and continue its pattern! :D Nice to see climbs for Lana Del Rey and Lionel Richie, although I don’t think Lionel’s climb will be as big come Sunday, but hopefully still big enough to get into the Top 40. I’m actually quite pleased to see Madonna at #15, I was worried it would fall out of the Top 20! Although, if Counting Crows, Ramin, and Lionel Richie drop a bit, MDNA could be higher in the Top 15, but I suppose that will drop too :(

Rambling post time :magic:

I must have missed all the hype around Alabama Shakes - they won't hold on to #1 but a big WHAT? in their general direction for even being there in the mids :o 'Hold On' was in the iTunes top 100 for a few days a couple of weeks ago but other othan that I've heard absolutely nothing of them. [/oblivious]

Adele set for a return to #1 then as I (sort of) predicted, unless Nicki catches her again by the end of the week  I could easily see Adele getting this week and next week before being knocked off #1 by Jack White.

Florence + The Machine doing really well for a live album but I guess that's just a byproduct of sales being so low. It'll probably see a similar fall over the week to Alter Bridge's live album a couple of weeks back which IIRC started in the top 20 but ended up #31. F+TM aren't AS fanbase oriented as them so maybe a low top 30 position or just inside the top 25? (It'll end their #1 streak already after just 2 albums wherever it land though :drama: :kink:)

Counting Crows and Ramin (whoever that is) will also probably fall out of the top 20 by the end of the week and Halestorm (again, whoever that is) out of the top 40. Alabama Shakes might fall to maybe 3-5?

Also great to see The Script's two albums continuing to climb. Anyone know why Stereophonics are randomly back?

On the singles, good to see Sway at #7, he should easily hold onto the top 10 provided he doesn't drop out of the iTunes top 10 by the end of the week, thereby averting the CRISIS SITUATION of the first ever top 10 that contains no British artists at all.

Was hoping to see The Script top 15 but at least they're still climbing. Great to see Mama Do The Hump climbing again as well (and Drake/Rihanna).

Good midweek position for Breathe Carolina, they didn't make the iTunes top 40 until Monday so I thought they'd be more lower top 30. Also a great start for fun. (quite funny that Rainbow Mix are ahead today though :kink: But they won't hold onto the top 40, they may still finish on a climb from last week's #64 though, similar to the fake We Found Love). Will be interesting to see how high 'We Are Young' can climb by Sunday, they're currently #7 on iTunes but I'm sure they'll be #2 by the end of the day and maybe #1 by the end of the week but no idea where they'll land officially after missing out on 2 days of sales.

URGH at Wheatus being in the top 40 :puke: I really hope iTunes put it back to 99p so it drops out by Sunday but it's unlikely :(

On the other hand brilliant to see the OCC have seemingly corrected their blooper regarding 'Together In Electric Dreams' - I can't see it staying top 40 though if it's only #38 today and both versions seem to be falling on iTunes. Just one thing, the report says it's showing up as 118-38 - the version showing up as #118 last week was the one erroneously credited to The Human League?! Surely it should say 90-38 instead.
