RIP to Madonna’s record for most number one albums by a female, now overtaken by Taylor Swift. Not sure when Madonna had established the record.

It would have been 1997 when she equalled Barbra Streisand. "Evita" would have put Madonna ahead on 5.

It’s a shame that we have so many legendary artists who are under-certified because much of their sales pre 1994 aren’t recognised.

Here’s hoping we get another #1 album from Madonna at some point in the UK! She’ll always be the queen to me but props to Taylor and it was going to happen regardless with reputation and self titled Taylor’s versions.

Madonna was quite unfortunate with 'Rebel Heart' and 'Madame X' - pretty sure the former was ahead in the mids but Mother's Day effect boosted Sam Smith more and 'Madame X' was released against Bruce Springsteen (which was also Father's Day week I think).

Fantastic news! I think estimates vary for its physical sales but, based on panel sales, 'Holiday' sold 483k in the 80s and 82k in 1991. Adding the 600k from the Platinum certification for sales since 1994, that puts its total at 1.165m.

Sales post 1994 were 217k on w/e 8th August 2019 (308 weeks ago), giving an average of 1,244 chart units a week.

And if it continues to sell like that, Holiday should be 2x Platinum (post-1994) in September 2034.

Madonna - Holiday (Platinum)

562,990 pre February 1994 units (from all three releases) + 600,000 post February 1994 units = 1,162,990 total chart units!

It’s a shame that we have so many legendary artists who are under-certified because much of their sales pre 1994 aren’t recognised.

^ why has Holiday been certified first?

'Vogue' had post-1994 sales of 222k in August 2019 and was 6th on her most streamed, so a Platinum certification could be on the horizon too (at which point 'Vogue' would officially be over 1m chart units).

I have a question, was 'The Holiday Collection' the 'Holiday' single that was re-released in '91 or were they two separate things and if so what chart did 'The Holiday Collection' chart on?

And then there was the Holiday Rap by Sven and Mike G mellow lol

Surprised Madonna/her record company let them use the instrumental

Two separate things. "Holiday" made No 5 whilst the "Holiday Collection" made No 98. It was released on CD (I have it on CD at any rate though I suppose it may be an import).

The holiday collection included the singles that didnt make it on to the immaculate collection!

Yes I know I have it. I was just wondering if it was the 'Holiday' single that peak at #5 in '91, apparently it's not from what Gezza siad.
