It's the host's prerogative ^_^

I think if it's an odd number then the host auto-qualifies but if the total participants is an even number, the host can either choose not to qualify giving it 0 AQ's or the host and the runner-up of the previous contest AQs.
Has there been an edition when the host HIMSELF denied his AQing though? :P That's why I asked. If there was the case, brave host then!

I'm not really sure how it works with even numbers. For eg; when I hosted BJSC 40 people confirmed entries so it meant I could have two semi finals with 20 songs in each, including myself. Had there been 41 then I may have AQ'd just to make it easier to do the semi finals. I finished 9th anyways so it was a good result considering I really didn't know how 'Black Video' would go down.

I know I did, I let Ria's Over You go through the semis last year when I was hosting, a few other hosts did the same thing last year too. If you've got enough confidence in your entry to qualify then I think it helps it out a bit, especially if it's a grower. I'm pretty sure Over You would have done worse in the final if I'd let it AQ, it grew on a lot of people from the semis to the final.

If I were to host one day (wishful thinking I know :P) I don't think I'd let my entry AQ as I wouldn't feel part of the contest if I completely missed out on the semis. Also the fact that you just won the contest would mean that you'd be more willing to take a risk and a DNQ wouldn't be as bad as usual.

I think it would look pretty bad to DNQ straight after a whin  As a host you still have to vote in both semis anyway, so it's not like you're completely disassociated from the contest, plus you get to see all the lovely votes come in :D

Yeah I guess so, but I'd still feel just as bad if I finished bottom five in the final and I was only there because I put myself through in the first place! It just doesn't feel the same when you're just watching over without having your own song competing in there too. :(

I know it was years ago but 'Will You Remember Me Tomorrow' surely has to be somewhere among the best!

It's still the entry that best sums up this contest.

I am absolutely THRILLED to see Tom (of the non-Kay variety) back with us. It's been way too long.

As for AQing. In the case of even number's it's up to the host. I personally wouldn't chose to go through the Semi's, I have enough DNQ's takk. In the case of odd numbers it's a mandatory AQ because we don't do uneven semi's. If the semi's are even then everything has an equal chance to get through to the final.

So far three countries are participating this round that didn't participate last time: #00274E, Aeroche and Kingdom of Shadow.

Letland are banned, so if all the other last round participants that haven't sent their entries send it Saturday, we'll have two more songs cumulatively in the semis. And there's always the probability that someone else also returns/decides to take part.

Aquafina will also be returning.

Looks like we could break the 50 countries barrier this contest! :o It's gonna be harder to qualify than ever!

Also, just so you know Tom it's Ramrynia not Ramryina. I'm sure you've just made a mistake, but I just thought I'd let you know so you'll know for the rest of the contest :kink: Sorry to be picky!

I thought that was 'Smack Me' :kink:

That's the perfect song to describe early FSR Ashvia. Ashton will still very happily revisit trashyelectropop.

Smack Me just saved the contest (:P), Will You Remember Me Tomorrow is the defining moment, or at least the first real defining moment because it was so fresh and inspired and managed to win out over all the cheapness, imagine if Pink's So What had beaten it, would have been a real blot on the history of the contest!

Similarly, if Alesha Dixon had beaten Agnes in BJSC XIV :P I don't think I've ever publicly apologized for Allecian's early years cheapnes!

Even Alesha's latest smash couldn't get past the double Scandi-whammy of Agnes and The Sound of Arrows

it's still one of my all time favourites  and the infamously DNQed Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer :(

so welcome back Tom :D

Far too much good stuff around at the moment, I could happily submit 10 entries this month!

I stopped searching after I found X. There was no point. It was the closest I was going to get to Imagine.
